Should be a great game. I hope we really stick it to the Habs..Not because of their players--some are cool, but for their fans. Remember--they are fighting for a playoff spot still. How sweet would another blow-out against them be!

i thought DesRochers and Weekes are injured too ?!?!
Yes, Mikus -- both men are injured.
Weekes decided to postpone his surgery (ligament damage to his stick hand), and finish the season. When/if he plays, it will be after receiving pain killing injections in his hand.
DesRochers has a broken bone in his elbow, that I believe occured during a practice session. Once this was confirmed, Irbe was recalled from Lowell.
We're low on goalies, right now, and don't have anyone else to recall who's NHL ready. That's the reason given for Weekes postponing his surgery.
Hope that helps. ;)

Most fans are worried about Weekes-- I agree with you there.
I think the problem is that if Petruk came up, then Lowell would need another goalie and they can't pull someone from the Everblades because the 'Blades are in playoff contention.

I think the problem is that if Petruk came up, then Lowell would need another goalie and they can't pull someone from the Everblades because the 'Blades are in playoff contention.
no biggie, they (the monsters) are out of playoffs anyway...

just because they're not in the playoffs doesn't mean they should give us all their goalies/players (which they pretty much have already anyway)... and forfeit the rest of their games.
so.... this is Irbe's what, like 5th Big chance to prove that someone wouldn't be totally crazy to pick him up...
let's hope he plays like he still wants to be an NHL'er.
I think our forwards have been playing some very very solid hockey. it's back to being our goaltending that I'm worried about.

This should be a good game. If Hill can stay out of the box, the Baby Canes continue to play with some fire and show the old ones what its like to want to play, continue to bring the puck in, play a little physical defense and the Archie that use to play with the Canes shows up we should have a shot..

Agreed, however there's always a Damian Rhodes or two out there to borrow from elsewhere and let stand in front of the Lowell net. I would just hate for some complication to occur during Weekes' surgery that keeps him out longer than expected.
He gets the surgery now, there's more time for a complete rehab, even if complications arise. He waits another month, it might be tight if unexpected complications show up. We really don't want Weekes to be missing camp because his hand is pulling a Boulerice and not healing as quickly as it should.
I don't mean to sound unsupportive of Lowell by any means, but when both the Canes and Monsters are out of the playoffs, i'd say the most important thing is to look to next year. Hell, if the delay in Weekes' surgery causes him not to be ready at the beginning of next season, Lowell will be down a netminder again. Best for everybody involved, IMO, for Weekes to take care of himself now and stop being so bloody unselfish.

I hope we POUND the Habs tonight 20-0 or something like that...after the fans booed the anthem when they played the Islanders...ugh.
Anyway, it should be a very winnable game tonight. The Habs are struggling as well and we shouldn't have too much trouble scoring tonight.
Isn't it Mike Watt's 'Cane debut as well?

Good, Bad, and Ugly
The Good:
Vrbata's 5th goal in 5 games...K. Adams continues to shine and get involved with the offense...excellent goaltending in the third from Irbe.
The Bad
Lost 5-3...Squandered a 4-minute PP.
The Ugly
Bad bounces, again, it's just how our season's going...let down the Caniacs that made the trip we saw on TV...we outshot the Habs by a considerable margin and still lost.

On the Canes scoring shorthanded subject the one that sticks out in my mind is the first one they got this season (I believe). It was the first time we played New Jersey this season and was scored by Brindamour. He was really excited after it and it's now part of the montage that is shown before games at the RBC Center.
As for the game? John and Tripp said it best....Irbe just got outdeuled. I believe we led the shots on goal by a wide margin but still came up with the loss. At least 2 of the goals Irbe gave up looked stoppable..... I'm really sad to see another loss for him though, I keep hoping for him to return to form in a big way! He did have an excellent third period though.
The game was exciting though during the latter part of the third period. Too bad we couldn't capitalize on the powerplay chance! We had several late scoring chances but Theodore was great tonight. Great goal by Vrbata, and nice little ditty by Hedican to attempt to get the puck out right before the empty netter.
Tough loss by the Canes who seemed to completely control play for the most part tonight. I turned on the game with 19:27 left to go in the first period so missed Kevyn Adam's goal and all replays of it...
The game reminded me a bit of game 2 of the Montreal series for the most part (with the wide margin of shots on goal) but in the end I was hoping it would be a little more akin to the game 4 miracle....
Alas, no, but an interesting game nonetheless. I could see the frustration boiling over though as I saw several droppings of the F bomb. One by O'Neill, one by Coach Mo, and one by who I believe is the athletic trainer. I hate to see them get so frustrated!
On a little side note, I saw my dad on tv for a split second and very small! He was in the back row of the little Booster Club Canes Section they showed on tv next to my brother.

My beloved Canes...what happened to all of you? An outstanding, high scoring game against Ottawa, then a mediocre, somewhat high scoring game against Montreal?! This was truly a game you could call good, bad, and ugly...
The Good:
Gone In Fifteen Seconds - It feels good to see the Canes scoring on teams in under a minute as opposed to teams doing the exact same thing. Wish this was the case a couple of months ago... Oh, and yes, the person to commit this good deed was Kevyn Adams with an assist from Craig.
In and Out - That's a good way to describe the beauty of a goal Big Joe got in the second period, which was assisted by Kurka.
The Radical One Strikes Yet Again - And yet another goal for Vrbata...as I said before, I'm loving this kid more and more. Also, kudos to Bayda and Vasicek for ze assists.
R-E-S-P-E-C-T - Find out what it means to me! R-E-S...oh, sorry. :) Glad to see the Hab fans show our anthem that tonight. The standing ovation I heard here in my niche at the Bell Centre was simply music to my ears.
The Bad and Ugly:
Shorthanded? So what? - ...which was what was running rampant through the Canadiens' heads as they got their first goal, obviously a shorthanded one, and see if they could get some more. Getting a little scary there Canes, especially when a certain goaltender, who I am getting ready to mention hasn't exactly been the best at handling one-on-one goals this season. (sighs) At least the Hab fans didn't end up saying the following, though they almost could have...
"There's a shortie! There's a shortie! There's a shortie! There's a...oops, save! (start laughing like ninnies)"
Replace "shortie" in the above quote with "goal". - Archie...I love you man, but I don't want your Bud Light. Seriously, what happened to you tonight, and what did you drink and/or eat before the game? Certainly wasn't Wheaties or beer, regardless of it being Bud Light or Molson. Those were some ridiculous soft goals. Especially the one that went through the legs and touched the very corner of the crease/goal line. I think I'll stop there...actually, you kind of redeemed yourself in the third, Arch. Think you can play a game like tonight's third period next chance you get?
In all honesty, the Canes could have won tonight, or at least tied if it weren't for that sissy goal mentioned above. Oh well, nothing to do other than look forward to the next game. And hope for a better effort than tonight...not that tonight's effort was horrible, but it wasn't great either. And if anything, tonight's effort was more a result of bad breaks than anything else. Shake it off Canes...(sings to the tune of a familiar Cars song) shake it off! Whoo-hoo! Shake it off!

I'm sorry I'm not good at remembering the names, but John asked him about his favorite players on the Canadiens when he was growing up in Montreal. Bruno talked about playing with/against a couple of them. He also mentioned that he picked up the tab after having dinner wiht Tripp.
Overall, he was very upbeat and personable. Seems like a nice kid.

An enjoyable game, even if things didn't go as we wanted them to.
Kevyn Adams - as always - looked great. Kevyn has been the one Cane who has showed up for every game, and it's awesome seeing him get results from his hard work.
Radim Vrbata had another great game offensively. I have to agree with others, though - for Pete's sake, Mo, stop putting him on the power play point. Dudeman has offensive talent out the hair follicles, but defense isn't his strong suit. Use his abilities, Mo. He's a natural scorer who is willing to go to the net. Put him up front so he can do it! I hated seeing him get caught as the lone man back on a 2-on-1 shorthanded break, because it's not where he belongs. Put him up front where he can do some damage, and put Malec or St. Jacques back there. That said, he managed a beauty of a goal from that spot... but i still think he'd be much more effective in front of the net.
Bayda, Zigomanis, St. Jacques, Malec, Kurka.... great game, guys. Next year's gonna be sweet. Watt was pretty much invisible i thought, but then it's easy to get spoiled when Heerema, Zigomanis, Kurka, DeFauw, and Surma score in their first games. And it's not like he had hours of ice time. I never saw any of his earlier NHL games, but he obviously is capable. Maybe he'll get another chance, though it was nice hearing John tell us that we may have a few guys back soon.
Kevin Weekes - go ahead and get that surgery. Go on. It's all good. The hand. Take care of it.

Basically, they talked about what it was like for Bruno to be in his hometown playing a NHL game. Then, Tripp asked Bruno about what he had for dinner and where he ate it...which was spaghetti and at his home.
Overall, a cute and amusing interview. :)

Game wasn't too bad...Maybe one of these days we'll put in a 60 minute effort. Heck, I'll settle for a 40 minute effort. Irbe (as much as I like him) and the Offense didn't show up until the third period.
D looked weak...I hope they can package Tanabe in some sort of deal this summer...I used to be big on him, but since his injury, he as been junk. Won't shoot...doesn't cut to the net when he needs to pinch...Lots of giveaways lately...He looks like he has lead in his skates too.
On to Toronto and Greg Louganis...

He was glowingly speaking of DesJardins, his hero. :) And of his mother's spaghetti. lol He was really a sweet guy... you woulda liked the interview, NC :D
Didn't get to see the Bruno interview at the 1st intermission. Anyone care to recap it?

He mostly talked about Eric Desjardins as his fav player, a fellow French-Canadian. The guy now plays as a Flyer and Bruno got to play with him there. More info on Desjardins here: http://www.philadelphiaflyers.com/team/roster/RosterDetail.asp?PlayerID=3:

Sorry, Mikus, but Irbe looked horrible last night. It looked like he didn't even care.
I'd give Montreal 2 of those goals--good shots, but the other 3 could have been stopped by just about any top notch goalie. On 1 of them, Archie was just out of position, and the other 2 just kind of trickled by him and he sat there and made no effort to put out his glove or anything.
We could have won that game with better goaltending.

I wouldn't worry about it. There will not be any Latvian Goalies on this team next year. They've been trying to GIVE him away and no one else in the NHL wants him. We have one very good NHL netminder and one who looks ready to provide relief when needed. Back on the farm, another one is rapidly growing up to be a big strong Baby Cane. No room at the Inn for The Wanderer.[/quote]

We could have won with ANY goaltending in the first and second. My cat could have stopped two of those goals. It wan't until the third that Arch actually showed up...
Hope he had a pleasant flight back to Raleigh...
