So, who has picked this up (or is planning to) for the ps2?

I grabbed it on the way home last night, and I've only played a couple of games. I'm SO rusty, due to being completely absorbed in EQ:OA since February... it's going to take some time to get my game back on track.

But man, EA has outdone themselves! The "Playmaker" function is a huge improvement. I mean, being able to direct blockers while you're running... or direct receivers while they're running their route? insanity!

plus, the online system has been beefed up Greatly... and now includes voicechat, tournies, a non-cheat system (no more quitting to get the win), etc.

suhweeeeet!
I'm still buried in EQOA (almost lvl 49 now), and the beta for the expansion will probably hit my mailbox within the next week... but I'm going to try to at least get a game or two in a day so I don't I embarass myself online.

anyway, if you've got this and want to post your game-name, do it and maybe we can get an LGC tourny going or something. :D

I'll add my name later. haven't picked one yet. I'm mostly going to be playing with guildies from EQOA, so it will probably be something more related to that than Guyute.

oh, and uh... if you haven't gotten this game yet, figuring it's "just another Madden"... you couldn't be more wrong. EA is blowin it out on the '04's.. and I can't wait to see NHL!

I've played NCAA Football 2004, which is pretty much the same game (same engine to those who don't know) and it is freaking awesome.

The same points you made blew me away. I'll be picking it up before long.

I got a good luck at it at Best Buy on my lunch break yesterday. Played a half and ran my Eagles down the field a couple of times. I've gotta say this is the best version yet, I hope NHL 2004 impresses me as much as this installment of madden does.

I'm BUYING it today! whooo-hooooooooooo!

Go Eagles

Man, I really gotta get a PS2. Madden 2002 was the last version I picked up. (PC)
I think I should check this out.

I'm big into the NHL series. From what I hear NHL 2004 will be awesome. EA Sports is fantastic...

the name I'm using (for now. I like how you can have 4 usernames on an account now tho) is "godm raidek"

there's an "ea messenger" type thing, you can add people to your list and easily check if they're online, send messages, etc...
it's pretty nice.

feel free to keep an eye out for me :) I knocked some of the rust off this weekend, and am almost ready to take on some real people. hehe

Is there a Madden curse?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution: 8/17/03

Mike Vick was elated to be on the cover of the football video game Madden NFL 2004 (the titles correspond to the calendar year of each season's Super Bowl). But it's becoming an honor few may want in coming seasons.

Since Electronic Arts began putting NFL players on the cover, all four cover subjects have either had injuries or suffered a decline in performance. The others:

Madden 2001 cover: Eddie George, Titans RB

Before cover: The Titans reached the Super Bowl the prior season and George had gone to three consecutive Pro Bowls.

After cover: George made the Pro Bowl in 2000, but averaged 3.2 yards per carry in 2001 and 2002 and the Titans haven't been back to the Super Bowl.

Madden 2002 cover: Daunte Culpepper, Vikings QB

Before cover: Culpepper threw 33 TD passes and led team to the NFC championship game.

After cover: Culpepper missed five games in 2001 with a knee injury, threw a league-high 23 interceptions in 2002; the Vikings have gone 11-21 since 2000.

Madden 2003 cover: Marshall Faulk, Rams RB

Before cover: Faulk had become the first player in NFL history to gain 2,000 yards from scrimmage in four consecutive seasons; the Rams had been to three straight postseasons.

After cover: Plagued by an ankle injury, Faulk started a career-low 10 games as the Rams missed the playoffs.

(insert Twilight Zone theme here)

:eek2: Dang...seems like any athlete, especially football players, cannot do any sort of endorsement without the fear of a curse!

guys who take their own trash out instead of letting their servents do it? I believe some have fallen to the wicked "Ankle Turn" injury when dragging cans to the curb. :p

and thanks babe... yes, guild of the drunken monkey... my eqoa guild.... not a god complex username. lol

I'll wait to do that one after I get good again.

Naslund to adorn EA Sports' NHL 2005
Canadian Press
6/23/2004

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (CP) - Vancouver Canucks captain Markus Naslund will be the face of Electronic Arts' NHL 2005 video game.

The Swedish left-winger will be featured on the cover of the made-in-Vancouver game, which is entering its 13th season.

Dany Heatley started as the cover athlete for NHL 2004 but was later replaced by Colorado's Joe Sakic in the wake of the Atlanta Thrashers star's car crash that resulted in the death of teammate Dan Snyder.

Calgary's Jarome Iginla was the face of the 2003 game.

``I've been playing the EA Sports NHL series since the beginning back in the early '90s,'' Naslund said in a statement. ``I can't wait to be more involved with NHL 2005, it promises to be the best yet.''

The game is due for release in the fall for GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC this fall.
