O.K.... one more game to go, before the All-Star Break. Carpe diem!

Just set my DVR, and noticed this game's in HD. :)

Normally you would think a team playing the night before would be tired and the opposing team would have a advantage, not tonight! Cane's are pumped up! They are projecting Fleury in goal....crash it! Hang in there Brindy! Let's Go Cane's!

In the spirit of the inauguration speech...

OVERCOME THE CURRENTS OF ADVERSITY AND SAY YES WE CAN!

:) disclosure: slightly paraphrased...and actually, for all I care they could say "The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain" if they win the da** hockey game.

O.K.... this tells you how distracted I've been between the snow and the Inauguration...

I just came here to start the game thread, kind of panicky....... and then...... I saw I already did last night!! I frankly, TOTALLY, do not remember typing any of the above. ^^^

C'mon, 'Canes.... please... look good tonight!!

I think the Canes should treat this game like a game 7, go into the break with a win!!! Sort of having the "nothing to lose mentality"!!! It'd be nice to build some momentum for the rest of the season!! Plus the Pens are one of the teams fighting for the last playoff spot, and so I think they're going to want to prove something too!!! GO CANES!!!

Mona2006

Malkin and Crosby.. Just build on last night.. and take one day at a time.

Just win.

Would be nice to go into the All star break on a high note. Especially since the Buff-Fla game was a 3 pointer last night. But I just don't know how this one is gonna turn out.

If we get the Cam from last night, we have a chance, but that's putting alot on someone who just had a hell of a game 24 hours ago.

Just play like you want to win not like you are already focused on the upcoming break.

If you need something to do to kill time before the games starts, here's 8 minutes with Johnny Sideburns (http://www.wralsportsfan.com/hurricanes/audio/4357432/).

From Mike Maniscalco's sports lunch show earlier today on 99.9.

Way to friggin go. ><

I don't see how Cam restrains himself from breaking sh*t in the locker room after they give up crap like that. Twice in one rush. TWICE we can't cut off the freaking pass. IT'S YOUR ONLY FREAKING JOB....just stop the pass! Is it really that freaking hard.....EVERY TIME!?!?

Bin-go.

We were just saying when you go to the net it's not just you screening, you're usually pulling one of their guys in their with you and it just creates total havoc. What's so hard to see about that?

What's so hard about it is apparently my theme for the evening.

And do we have Pens cameramen? What's with the camera on Fluery only after the goal? I don't want to see how upset he is, I want to see how happy we are!

livinthedream
01-20-2009, 07:15 PM
Well, after SHC and I tried like hell to give him a +1 last night, at least Brindy is a +1 tonight.

Did Forslund just call Tuomo a battering ram?

Ray wants to give him an assist too. But he's way too serious in his interview tonight.

I guess Ruuty is the only one who is either taking it upon himself to stand in front of the net, or someone sat him down and said do it. #12 used to be a 'net presence' like Tripp likes to yak on about, and now he's gone perimeter.

LTD, Brindy needs you to be the stats maker- he'd be a plus player in no time, heehee.

Can someone tell me when Matt Cullen will return to the PP? I'm just not getting why he's not there.

Why Thank You :)

Can't we just keep Ruutu out on the PP for the full 2 mins and just plant his butt right in front of the goalie. He seems to be the only one that knows how to do it.

I thought Pittsburgh had a slight edge in play, maybe it was those odd man rushes they kept getting. Hopefully we wake up a bit more and the guys remember they still have 40 minutes to go before they can go on break.

Man do I heart Justin Williams. What hustle to get the puck back and in front of the net.

Good job on that goal for #12, lots of hustle for the line. JWill and Staal look like how I imagined they would playing together. #12 was flying in that period. and he kills me with the shreiking celebrations, heehee. The Pens didn't have much time in our end.

OK, that was a good game. The last two periods we were winning battles, beating them to pucks, all that crap we never do. We looked like the team that wanted it more. I guess I missed the part of the third where we stopped showing up.

Fantastic game by Cam. He's #1 star, easy, IMO. Great games by Staal and Cullen as well.

I'm with ya SHC, I didn't see us not showing up in the 3rd either. I'm sure Pittsburgh upped their play a bit. Both teams desperately needed and likely wanted this win and I wasn't expecting Pittsburgh to give up and not fight. But I felt our guys fought back and deserved the win.

Although, they do owe Cam some steak, lobster and beer for these past 2 games. He was a HUGE part of them getting the 4 points.

Now come home get some much needed rest and start that push in a week.

Sucks to lose Walker and Wallin -- hopefully the All-Star break is enough to get 'em back.

We're 6-5 over the last 11. What a roller-coaster 11 games: win 4, lose 5, win 2. PHEW.

To start the first we were thoroughly overmatched, but after giving up that goal we were a team possessed. I don't know WTF happened in the first intermission but we were insane in the 2nd and 3rd.

I just pulled up 99.9 and caught the tail end of #12 talking to Maniscalco via phone. Is that new? Eric sounded giddy- happy for the team.

The team played hustling hockey. I saw the effort all the way.

I think #12 played his best hockey game in awhile. That Staal stride and the explosive step was everywhere, he chased down that puck before they called that too many men penalty, and he had the lunging stride going. That's who we all know. #11 is thisclose to coming all the way back. and Cullen looks like he's gotten to another gear. Very impressive.

Isn't it amazing how everyone feels so much more different about this team when we WIN?

I'm with most of you - I don't think they let up in the third. In fact, before the PK, there was a frenetic stretch of about 5 mins that we were just SWARMING all around the ice. I don't remember seeing us at that speed EVER this season to date.

I don't know how TNOC got them to get their MOmentum back, but I really hope he makes me eat my words before this season is done.

PK with Wallin injured and Gleason in the box was just fantastic.

Good win - now rest up during the all star break - we'll need that energy for the rest of the season!

Yeah andy- so when I was discussing this JWill/Staal combo, with hub and a good friend of his who kinda thought I was "crazy" for repeatedly talking about the pair, because the friend thinks of JWill as an extension of Rod- I told him that I just thought they needed to be together- it was some kind of hunch. Anyway, we have had this continued back and forth on my reason why, and I pulled it from wayyy back to 2005-06:

Our #12 & #11 did play on the same line together at one point- it was the All Star Game. That's really not the funny part- the funny part was that the Coach of the East?......................... Cindy Ruff. Of all the people to do it, eh? IIRC JWill scored a goal, and #12 had 2 assists. Yeah, it's the All Star game- but it's really interesting that they've not played together sooner.

Good win, thanks to Cam Ward. MoHockey pulled it out in the 3rd. Not sure how many more wins will come from chipping the puck out of the zone and holding on for dear life though. I'll give credit to Staal for coming on in the 2nd & 3rd after he spent much of the 1st pouting.

The Staal goal last night reminded me of that last-second miracle goal against NJ where Justin got him the puck in front of the net. That was one of my all-time favorite RBC Center moments.

With Rod's game in the scrapper & the team struggling to score, it only makes since to try these two together. I also think LaRose & Ruutu's energy help make up for Rod's lack thereof.
