From Chip.
Defenseman Niclas Wallin, who reaggravated an ankle injury against Pittsburgh last Tuesday, will not make the trip to New York for the game against Rangers tomorrow night.
Canes coach Paul Maurice said Wallin did not suffer another high ankle sprain and hopefully should be able to return soon. Wallin did not practice Monday.
Scott Walker, who left the Penguins game after a collision with the Pens' Matt Cooke, was at practice at the RecZone.

From the NY Post:
Lundqvist skated with the rest of the team on its first day back, saying Renney did not make sitting out an option. The coach did say, though, that Steve Valiquette will likely start tonight, while Lundqvist would play tomorrow in Pittsburgh. That game will be followed up by a trip to Boston on Saturday.

Poor Nic.. this hasn't been a good year for him health-wise. :(
How's about 3 in a row? :)

I'm a little disappointed the NY Post didn't refer to Lundqvist as glamorous (http://www.letsgocanes.com/). ;)

Francis to miss Canes game with back injury
Posted 39 minutes ago
Associate coach Ron Francis will not be behind the bench for tonight’s game at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers, the Carolina Hurricanes announced Tuesday.
Francis suffered a back injury during the All-Star break and is not with the team on the current road trip.
The Hurricanes play the Rangers at 7 p.m. Carolina returns home to Raleigh for a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night at the RBC Center at 7 p.m.

Wow, thanks for posting Mona! Hope Ronnie's going to be ok. We sure have interesting luck with injuries.
Now, who will wear the earpiece for the Eye in the Sky?

Francis to miss Canes game with back injury
Hope it wasn't from a sledding incident from our snowfall last week. I know several people who broke bones, tore tendons, etc. :(

Color me confused. I thought the Rangers were having issues scoring this season.
2-0 and Brindy's already a minus -1.
ETA: Wooo Hoooo!!!!!
Ryan Bayda scores!
Brindy's back to even plus/minus with an assist (along with my FFW).
(god I hope I'm right on the plus/minus this time LOL)

LOL LTD. The Rangers really are having trouble scoring. They win games 2-1 or 3-2. Sound familiar?
We've gotta tighten up- too many rushes the other way and I don't like it.
I'm going to throttle TRIPP. What is up with all this 'fresh start' stuff? Is it spring training?
Oh, another Tripp phrase I'll throw out there- on fresh ice, the Canes need to score a PP goal.

How have we looked?

Not awful, not great. Good attacking, weak in transition. Like I know WTF I'm talking about. But I'm a good listener.
Tripp is over-selling Brind'Amour, IMO.

So far, Ryan Bayda is our Useful and Beautiful player of the night.
Not that his drawing a penalty did us any good.

OMG the PP is just as stinky as it's ever been. Execution is horrid.
Yeah, I gotta agree with you LTD, it's as if Tripp is 'willing' Rod to get better cause he just can't take the thought of him doing so poorly in the +/- column, plus it's clear he has a great admiration of Rod.
This yapping about "tons of chances/shots not going in" thing, is starting to sound eerily familiar. Good gosh, Valiquette hasn't played in AWHILE. The King plays most games. I know he's a big goalie, but sheesh, we need to do more in front of him. ALOT more.

I really, really wish Tripp would stop with the Brindy man-love.
Now it's getting embarrassing.

To be fair, the Rangers lead the league in penalty killing.
And Dubinsky scores to make it 3-1. Just like the first goal, the center, Cullen in this case, was late getting back to check.
And Ruutu answers 3-2.
ETA: Brindy is +1 with 2 assists.

So Dubinsky scores after having not scored in AWHILE, 3-1; after all kinds of pressure from us, and the Rags on their heels. Then the toolboxes turn around and score to make it 3-2. We just live to make it hard on ourselves. :ticked: Good job Ruuty, but I'm still pissed.
I don't care if the Rangers have the best kill- our PP still stinks. We're not even in the conversation - nor are we ever a threat.

This one looked more to me like a case of the defenseman being mesmerized by what's going on on the other side of the net. Cullen had his man coming up the ice, I thought Seids should have had Dubinsky.

STFU Tripp. You're annoying. You just said Valiquette 'looked tired' now he had a 'great game'. More crappy results, and FLA is winning vs PHI. back down to the 9/10 spot.

Thank goodness for the small miracles.
At least unlike their RBC tenant mates, the Wolfpack were able to take it to OT and pull out a win.

After they blew a 19 point lead in the second half. But the last five seconds of the OT was pretty darned exciting.

I was working until 7pm and surprised the game was on when I got in my car (thought it was a 730 start - oops). So I missed most of the 1st.
While work effort and net presence is better, it seems like that's the only way we tried to score - a shot from the point and a rebound scramble (when we never found the puck). I miss seeing pucks get passed from 1 guy to another...and actually make it to them...and then a shot is on net. Like the Rangers 3rd goal. Or the pretty goals that Vinny and Marty score in Tampa....or like we used to be able to (when our roster was vastly different).
Ruutu's goal was nice, but it was his wicked release rather than some great developing play imo.
To be fair, they did mention that the ice at MSG was not that great.
And I actually agreed with the notion that this was one of Rod's best games of the season. Unfortunately that's not saying much.

The ice at MSG is NEVER great. It's common knowledge around the league and certainly nothing "new". Besides both teams skate on that ice, so being 'fair' and saying that the ice was bad, is very Tripp like (since he's the one that said another stupid thing) and just a dumb excuse, imo.

BINGO, E, I totally agree with your thoughts.
For me, this team is absolutely not "dangerous". It's almost to the point that we can bring out that old PL phrase, and say "we're harmless", there is nothing dynamic in this team and last night, we looked like individuals again out there; totally disappointing, and just completely frustrating.
nccanes
01-28-2009, 07:53 AM
"Dynamic". That's a good word to describe what's been missing for so long.
The silver lining is that Rod did seem more Brind'Amour, rather than Brind'ALess. If he feels good about his game, that's a step in the right direction too (I told Mr ncc early in the season that Rod was depressed so that's our buzz word around the house...any time he makes a mistake, Mr ncc says "oh that's right...he's depressed").
I really hope that Staal and Williams can get some of that "dynamic" nature to their game. We desperately need a line that's dangerous.

I agree that Brind'Amour looked better. Flashes of old Brindy, especially his work on the first goal, and he had a couple of good scoring chances. But there were still a lot of flashes of new Brindy (neutral zone turnovers, etc.) which is why I thought the gushing was overdone.
I'm glad to get the garbage goals, but I miss the pretty offense too. Not just the goals, but the execution of the pretty plays up the ice that lead to the goal.
And by the way, and this is a word I heard on multiple occasions last night, "dancing" is not pretty.
SoCalcaniac
01-28-2009, 08:40 AM
Well, Pavel Datsyuk "dances" on a regular basis, #71 in PIT also does some amazing dancing- problem for us is our "Dancer" doesn't score like the pretty dancer in DET and the amazing dancer in PIT does.
So that my friends is why we are depressed and not-so-dynamic.

I figure the 6 day rest went a long way towards making whatever is hurting on Brindy feel better (unless it is his heart, then I got nothin'). Now that we're back to playing every couple days, he'll be back to Brind'aLess mode in no time.
I miss the pretty offense as well but, we've got the keep it simple, keep throwing it at the net coaching philosophy now so, I wouldn't hold out for it's return, even if we did get the personnel going for it.
