From Chip (http://blogs.newsobserver.com/canes/brindamour-returning-to-raleigh)

Canes coach Paul Maurice said today that team captain Rod Brind'Amour was returning to Raleigh and would not play in the games in San Jose and Phoenix.

"Roddy has a nagging injury that's not getting any better, so we're sending him back," Maurice said.

Maurice said the injury is not related to Brind'Amour's knee problems but was a "lower-body, muscular" injury.

Maurice said the Canes would call up a forward from the Albany Rivers Rats (AHL) but had not made a decision on the player.

Defenseman Niclas Wallin, who has been slowed by an ankle injury, is with the team but still unable to play, Maurice said.

Sounds like it's something that should have happened some time ago, just as so many of us thought Brindy was playing injured. If not much of the season, it at least gives Brindamour something to blame for his faceoff % vs. Vancouver.

CH.com says it'll be Jakub Petruzalek.

We all knew something was wrong. Wish he had gotten healthy a long time ago and not tried to play with the injury. He may have made the injury worse and healing time longer.. plus the fact that he hasn't done much for the team. Sad to say, but true.

I wish him a speedy recovery.

The concering part is that he just had a full week off over the All Star break. :(

From someone who only has a Brind'Amour jersey and loves the guy, "Good." It needed to happen sooner. Let's see if this gives Staal carte blanche to take over (a la last year).

I'll see if I can find the audio.....Forslund (http://www.wralsportsfan.com/hurricanes/story/4476458/)'s take is that it's a groin injury.

Hurricanes TV voice John Forslund told Mike Maniscalco on 99.9 The Fan that coach Maurice ruled out that the injury has anything to do with the captain's knee.

The captain had reconstructive surgery on his left knee in February and another surgery on the knee in September to remove cartilage.

Brind'Amour lost 11 out of 14 face-offs in Tuesday night's loss at Vancouver, a reason Forslund believes the groin might be the issue.

"Usually when a player has a problem with that area of the body they don't have a lot of strength, they don't have the foundation they need to dig in and be as strong as Rod is in the face-off circle," Forslund said. "Usually he out muscles the other guy and that's how he wins so many draws, it wasn't happening Tuesday night."

i've paid attention to his skating, i didnt see anything indicative of injury through the season. His head hasnt been in the game, i dont buy this as being the source of his mental lapses.

I think alot has to do with his head not being in the game...as we've talked. BUT he had a long standing groin injury during the Stanley Cup year and had to get treatment after nearly every game for a LONG stretch. It's conceivable that he's reinjured it while maybe babying his knee (i.e. putting pressure where it normally wouldn't be if he hadn't gotten injured. )
