Summer movies are about over now, so time for a new thread. :)

Look what is coming. Must have Quicktime to view. Looks like it will be one of those movies that are so stupid that they are funny!

Speaking of "scary" movies, what the hell's the deal with the Texas Chainsaw remake? They must know it's gonna suck; all I knew was the idea of a remake was being talked about, and this weekend I found out it's coming out in two months. Must be such a stinker they don't even want to bother marketing it. Wasn't the Gus Van Sant "Psycho" experiment enough to teach that lesson? And they're remaking "Dawn of the Dead," although that looks to be more a retell than just a remake. Plus it has Sarah Polley, always a good thing.

Hope something good comes out this fall cuz the summer crop has sure sucked.

My mind is focused on only one upcoming movie, and it's not coming until December

On the plus side, Two Towers (theater version) comes out next week, and I have Chicago to tide me over until then!

everyone should be focused on "Underworld"

looks like it had a $100M budget, but it only cost a little over $20M

looks very cool

in other news ......I haven't been around lately due to the fact that I got a new job. I'm now the GM at the Lumina Theater in Chapel Hill. the drive sucks, but the pay is good

I saw the commercial for this one last night and thought it looked really good. I had invested in it on HSX.com about 6 months ago, and still have the stock, so maybe it will begin to peak finally!.

I also saw a commercial for another movie called "Mambo Italiano" last night that looks like it has quite a few laughs in it.

Not a fall movie, but one I just saw this past weekend is Trainspotting, a movie about this group of heroin-addicts in Scotland, with the main character trying to get rid of his addiction... and the plots that center around that.... definitely not a family movie (tons of drugs, some sex, and lots of language), but it's a fascinating movie.

And man, I had forgotten about Kill Bill coming out; that looks great, too.

That movie is nearly 10 years old. I can't turn that one off. If it plays late some night (I'm not sure if you guys get "Showcase" in the US), but I stay up to watch it all. Great movie to watch if you're consuming some "pops".

We got to see a preview of Thirteen two nights ago. Oh lordy-- I'm glad I don't have a 13-yr. daughter.... I wouldn't let her out of my sight.

Evan Rachel Wood is amazing in the lead role. Where she pulled that inner rage from is beyond me.... impressive, impressive performance.

(Maybe I'm a little partial because I know her. Her Dad is the Artistic Director of my theatre company-- but still, the movie is worth seeing just to see "Evvie.")

It hasn't opened anywhere in the Triangle, yet-- look for it at any of the "art house" theatres in one or two weeks.

Salton Sea is really more of a detective story than just a drug movie. Probably has more in common with Memento than Trainspotting. But it's an interesting look at tweakers (speed-freaks) anyway. Stars Val Kilmer and Vincent D'Onofrio (sp?) has a very interesting role as well. I thought it was great.

Once again, not new releases here, but I saw two movies tonight.

Reservoir Dogs - Very cool movie; similar to Tarentino's Pulp Fiction, with the flashback-type scenes. I really enjoyed it, even though the VHS we rented had a constant buzzing noise... I know I'm probably the last one on earth to see it, but it was awesome.

Seven - Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman chasing down a killer who murders according to the Seven Deadly Sins... kinda graphic, but I gotta say, this was an excellent movie. Kinda dark and bleak; it is raining in every outdoor scene, which gives it a good, almost-spooky vibe. Definitely recommend it if you haven't seen it yet.

We saw Thirteen tonight at the Madstone. Oh my God!!! It was awesome! Shawn....you aren't biased one bit. Evan Rachel Wood is amazing. Someone SHOULD win an Oscar for that one. People are billing it as a cautionary tale but I think it's way better than that. If you remember anything about what it was like to be a 13 year old girl (probably guy too....I just haven't done that) you should be able to identify with her in some way. It was, for me any way, a pretty angry time and they absolutely nail it in this movie.

I think it is so much more powerful than Kids (anyone else seen that?) as a portrayal of teenagers because too many people could look at Kids as being so extreme and not be able to identify at all. Evie and Tracy get into a lot of stuff but nothing so extreme that I found it unbelievable. I think it's a great portrayal of the way she moved from being a normal, "good" girl to being.....well, not that.

Great, great movie. I highly recommend it. I'll stop gushing now. :p

Saw an excellent movie last night...

Following, by the director of Memento... this young man that likes to follow people... just to see what they are like, where they go, and things like that... meets up with a burglar, who shows him how he does the same thing... pries into people's personal lives, etc... The story uses the same techniques as Memento... such as constant flashbacks, etc... the plot evolves into a very interesting triple-crossing... awesome movie, definitely recommend... black and white, if it makes a difference... and British actors, too...

I'd never even heard of Memento until just recently, and I absolutely loved it. I'll have to check out Following, thanks Tommy! Looks like I'll need to hit Blockbuster with a printout of this thread. A movie I'm interested in seeing is Whale Rider, a New Zealand film about a Maori tribe. A group from my neighborhood was going to go see it, but then chickened out and picked something else, which was okay. Critics and viewers alike have given it good reviews.

For you "Kill Bill?" fans...did anyone get to see this....They had a preview of the movie at Cary's Madston Theater on October 2 at 10:30 am. "Quentin Tarantino requests that you call in sick tomorrow," the e-mail read. "Doctor's note to your boss will be available." :D The only complaint was that the movie should have been one instead of two. Part I is scheduled for national release Friday, Part II will be released February 20. Did anyone know that this was a two-parter? Check out the N&O article in the Life section of today's paper.

Oh, I'm aware of the true story behind it. Creepy enough even if it is missing a few minor details of the movie. ;)

The original was more disturbing than I'm comfortable with....and I love horror movies. A remake would just be redundant.

BTW, intersting fact, in the first frame (or is it last, it's been a while) of the original film they give a date. I'm assuming they're trying to say it's the date that the "true" story took place. That date is my birthdate. And I mean month, day and year. Creepy, huh?

I can't believe anyone has the darned gall to remake what everyone says is one of the most classic horror flicks ever AND the origin of the slasher genre. When I heard about a remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre being made, I thought it was just a rumor...but obviously, it's not. Oh well, we all know what happened when Stephen King tried to remake Carrie (As a musical!) and The Shining...

Saw "Kill Bill" today, and boy, what a movie. Easily the best use of music to accentuate action I've seen in a long time. Hilarious, bloody, beautiful...seeing it again as soon as possible. There was a couple there with a kid that was six or seven, and I would've said something if the father wasn't the size of an offensive lineman. Yikes.
