The magic number is the number of points needed to be gained by the Canes, or lost by competing teams, for the Canes to wind up ahead of that team. If there is a tie, first tiebreaker is wins. I am not dealing with further tiebreakers at this time
we must clear the magic number with at least four of the teams below to make at least 8th place.
Leafs 2*
Senators 4
Sabres 8
Panthers 9
Canadiens 13
Rangers 14
Penguins 14
*we have wins tiebreaker
Games of significance
Mar 26
Panthers at Flyers
Rangers at Thrashers
Lightning at Canadiens
March 27
Leafs at Sabres (at least one point will be picked up here)
*already have wins tiebreaker
