It's Friday, and looking for a hockey fix after last night's amazing game I ran across the CHL Memorial Cup on NHLN. To my best understanding, this is either Canada's Junior Championship or just and invitational tournament. Am I correct? 2nd question, are there any Canes prospects playing in this or have any of these guys even been drafted?

it's a host team plus the WHL, OHL, and QMJHL champions that plays a tournament for the memorial cup (considered the champion of the CHL, of which the previous three leagues are members)...

one of our kids won it last year, when the cup broke during the award ceremony.

Windsor won! 2 Canes connections.....their coach is former Cane Bob Boughner and their equipment manager is Wally's son.

I didn't see any Canes prospects on the rosters, but from:

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/11202/iss_top302009_prospects_may/

There were a few guys in the ISS top 30 from May in the tournament: Drummondville's Kulikov, Windsor's Ryan Ellis, and Rimouski's Jordan Caron. Several were in the 2007 and 2008 draft class, like Windsor's Dale Mitchell was a 2007 3rd round pick of the Leafs, Windsor's Greg Nemisz was a 2008 1st round pick of the Flames, etc.

Craziness to me is reading about Drummondville's Yannick Riendeau -- who went from being undrafted to (as an overage player) the scoring leader of the QMJHL this year, finally signing with (who else) the Bruins in March:

And he ended up with 8 points in 4 games in this tournament.
