^^ To answer your question, ncc....
And... I'll preface this by saying I only joined FB about 3 or 4 weeks ago.
Once you set-up your personal page, that gives you access into starting any kind of a group page that you'd want to start.
There's group pages of just about anything you could imagine. Some people use it as a petition-- some people just use it as place for like-minded people to get together and network -- most of it is just for kicks.
There a spot to leave messages, and an actual discussion board forum. You can find group through the "search" function. Once you find one, it's either "open" and you click on "join group," and you're counted, or it could have a restricted membership (like the lgc one) and you ask to join and then are allowed in by the mod.
Once you join a group, that'll show on the bottom of your "profile" page, so your "friends" can see what group you've joined (you can also delete that info at any time) and then they'll join, too.
I was poo-pooing facebook for the longest time, but now that I've joined, it's a fun way to keep up-to-date with old friends. I'm part of a group of former college classmates from the Drama Dept. of my first under-grad school who's planning a get-together in July. We've all re-connected thru FB. Some of them I haven't seen in over 25 years!!
And... if you've got family members bugging you for recent photos.... you can have all kinds of photo albums on FB, so now I just say, "check-out my FB page (or Mr CL's)." It's like one-stop shopping for your family and friends!

I just can't put one more thing on my plate that takes time. I'm simply tapped out time-wise.
I'm sure I'd enjoy it -- and that's part of the problem.
Some of my family does seem to put photos on FB, but I can live w/o seeing them I suppose.

I'm on Facebook, but waaaaay behind on friend requests, etc. I've told myself that's a project for the off-season, but maybe since we have another extra day between games I'll work on mine tonight.
And I had no idea this site has a Facebook group LMAO.
ETA: LMAO even more it has my roster collage as the group photo (albeit one that's over a season old).

I'm like E, totally resistant to even get started on the FB craze, but at the same time very curious on what the hub-bub is about, and then there are too many family members, friends from back home, professional colleagues etc., who are all trying to get me to join and on the work side of things, it gets heightened because alot seems to be going on with all these professional groups--- then there are all the friends and family with new babies, vacation pics and all that stuff that gets thrown up on the FB page and "you have to see them"
I thought Twitter was a simpler venture, and it is and that's been fun, but it seems like I'm going to be strong armed (lol) into taking on FB. But it also seems like it's going to be a time zapper. Fun, but a time zapper.
I too, had no idea that LGC had a Facebook page!

C'mon, NCC... you know you want to!!
Besides... you can update your page from your Blackberry while you're sitting at a soccer game!! :D
One thing I have recently discovered is that you can group your "friends" by lists and then restrict access to certain areas. For example: I have about 500 extra "friends" that I have only added to play this ridiculously dumb game called Sorority Life (don't ask). I don't know these people and I don't want them seeing my stuff so I have them restricted from my profile totally. I have people from work that I don't need all up in my business either and they have other restrictions.

I broke to peer pressure after my last visit and set up an account last week. Within 3 days I had a friend request from my junior year prom date and hubb already tagged me in a half dozen pic with the crazy baby.

sometimes the groups are good for disseminating information en masse, but most of the time you join it because you agree and thats it. they're dumb, which is why i limit my joinage.
my favorite is "when i was your age, pluto was a planet" and "cookout is the sh*t!

O.K... folks.. several of y'all are listed as an Admin of LGC's FB page -- maybe you can help with this.
I received Emails tonight saying that I'm an Admin., and to let two people in, if I click on the links. The links are dead--not working.
I'm not listed as an Admin, so I don't know why I got these. I don't think I have the functionality to let them in.
Fortunately, I know the people's real names, so...... If you guys can let in Caniac369 and ONeillsNo1Fan, that'd be great..... because I can't. :(
Thanks!

So how does someone find you on FB if you are set to private? There are certain people I did not want contacting me on FB so I thought I'd found a way that a) they couldn't read anything on my page and b) I couldn't be found if I didn't want to be found.
I got a friend request from a blast from the past today and I'm like WTF?

I'm not sure, chc, but there must be some way to do it. A friend of mine from college is on Facebook and I had searched for her from time to time. I finally spotted her husband on a mutual friend's profile and then I saw that my friend was on his page, but if I searched for her, she didn't show up in the results, so I couldn't even send her a message or friend request. I had to either post on his page or wait for her to contact me. I think the people whose names show up in just bold black text are ones that have theirs set to some type of private setting -- either you can't see their profile unless you're friends or you just can't find them at all.

for the college male, facebook can be a god send. you can figure out if a chick is crazy before you ask them out. i guess it applies to any age (and in reverse), but with the college age group you're more likely to see more stuff, since most are not cognizant of what ramifications those pictures can carry.
