I know we had a thread going at one time but I couldn't find it, and with the XM/Sirius merger I know there have been a lot of station changes since probably the last time we discussed this topic.

I have a hellacious work travel week coming up, I'm going to be in the car for several days for long stretches of time (like 10 hours on Monday, ugh), and I can't deal with too many repeats on XM 204.

What do you XM folks listen to when you're not listening to hockey?

I'm usually on XM204 (Home Ice) or XM140 (ESPN) for sports, then XM54 (Lithium - grunge/90s rock) for music. But I'm in a rut and need a change.

All suggestions welcome!

Check out XM84 - Chill. It's all smooth electronica. Pretty good stuff.

Well I used to be a big Ethel fan before the merger. Now I listen to Alt Nation but its nowhere as good as Ethel, too many repeats. I also like Octane. As a whole since the merger I think XM is nowhere near as good as it was before the merger. That being said, it still beats the heck out of local radio.

Have no idea on the XM channel, but I really like FirstWave (22 on Sirius).....it can be repetitive, but if you like 80's alternative/new wave...its a great place to go.

I don't have satellite radio, so when I have a long trip -- like my drive home to WV -- I'm a dork that likes audiobooks. I tend to pick up James Patterson because I figure they'll keep me entertained and awake, but don't require enough attention to make me a danger on the road. :) I've done one or two of his and it's really helped the time go by. Last Christmas, I did "Breaking Dawn" because I found it for a great deal at Target just before my trip and that was fun to listen to, and a friend of mine usually has the Harry Potter books handy for long road trips.

This was a good thread when we had it going before......

I'm like most of ya'll- if it's Sept thru June/July, the majority of my listening is XM204, all hockey all the time- typically 99% of the time. When summer comes- like now, the deep summer you can only listen to the NHL Alumni hour for so long & so many times. ;)

So I started moving the buttons on the XM units and I've discovered a couple of really awesome stations- My complete fave and I think if you grew up in that time it is more relevant, but I love XM 44-1st Wave; it's all 80's alternative music, and Richard Blade is the host for most of the time I listen, and that dude takes me right back to 1983/84/85 the height of the Alternative music scene in socal, and all the crazy bands and music. It's good listening. So when I'm done with my 80's flashback of my youth, I return to the present and I do enjoy a few stations, XM 47-Alt Nation is very good, and I do enjoy some of the more mainstream stuff too, XM 25 The Blend is good and I was bummed when they changed out "flight 26" on XM 26- but "The Blend" is growing on me, it's good for long drives.

I have moved over to some of the "news" channels, and I'm really enjoying NPR Now-(XM134) and I still listen to Oprah & Friends (XM156) -it can get like 204 a little too many repeats, but the core of the morning is a good time to listen; I also tune into CNN which sometimes is just perfect to listen to. XM Public Radio is good too. (133)

For pure fluff and kinda mindless stuff- a good friend of mine back home in socal, told me about "Cosmo Radio" - (who knew?) and it is kind of a hoot. I've not picked up a Cosmo mag or subscribed in YEARS, but the station kinda brings you back if you ever did read the mag. There's a show called "Cosmolicious" -- OMG, it's hilarious. (XM162) I'm not a Martha wannabe, but I do like her mag, her station on 157 is alot like Oprah's channel -- not much of the 'star' but a bunch of really good hosts and contributors.

Doug- I agree, since the 'merger' some of the channels really are markedly different from what was back in the day. I'm kinda bummed about it- but it's still far and away better than regular radio!

Ok, I think I've prattled on enough about my XM preferences....

If you have Sirius (or if it is on XM anywhere), check out The Playboy Channel Afternoon Advice. You will realize there are more messed up people then yourself in the world.

Well, so far I've been in a car 18 hours this week, and I can't thank y'all enough for the feedback. I had plenty of opportunity and I think I tried every single station out (except for the Playboy Advisor which darn, I don't think I have on XM). Great recommendations!

I have two funny stories. Yesterday I had to leave very early for a trip down to SC and back. Then last night I had to head up to DC. So by 9:30 I'm exhausted and driving around Richmond on I-295 which will bore you to tears normally but last night it was all I could do to keep my eyes open. So I flipped over to XM44/First Wave, and the first song they played was "Rudy Can't Fail" by the Clash. Well, that one perked me right up for the rest of the trip!

(for those who don't know the significance, that song was the United Center in-arena theme song for a certain ex-Blackhawk).

Then today, I'm leaving Arlington and stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic at the Springfield mixing bowl and it's that time of the afternoon where if you're not careful you can just doze off and my head was starting to nod. So I look over and in the lane next to me is a big white truck, and what is painted in its back window? Yep, you guessed it. Three wolves, howling at the moon.

Further proof that God is watching out for me and that He has a wicked sense of humor.

Talking about the 3 wolves shirt, I get Tweets from Immersion Research, a whitewater kayak accessory manufacturer. well the other day I got a tweet from them and it was pimping the 3 wolf shirts.:D

Back on topic, another XM station I listen to is XL Faction, XM 52,although I don't care for the hip hop they play but I do enjoy the hardcore music occasionally. One other XM station I listen to is Outlaw Country, XM 12. And I also like SiriusXMU on XM 43 because they play unsigned new acts.

 LTD- Glad you managed the long road warrior stint well; and hooted out loud on that whole 3 Wolf Thing; you know I'm so not in the loop on the phenomenon, but it tickles me to death to read ya'll's posts on it.

But this Rudy Can't Fail, OMG I COMPLETELY forgot about that being his theme song! I remember the first time I ever heard them play it for him, he scored a goal, and there was a stoppage and it was kinda lengthy but they didn't go to commercial and I was struck by how "progressive" I thought the 'Hawks in-game people were for digging up that classic! ;)

Safe travels...... isn't it amazing how entertained you can be with that little satellite radio?
