SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Phoenix goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier, who the Coyotes acquired as a potential replacement for Sean Burke, had surgery to repair a hernia and will miss training camp.
``We looked forward to seeing him play with the big team during the exhibition season,'' general manager Michael Barnett said Wednesday. ``Only time will tell now when he will return, but we have no intention of rushing the process.''
The six-foot-three, 200-pound Pelletier played in two games with the Coyotes last year, recording a 3.03 goals-against average and an .875 save percentage. Carolina traded him and a conditional draft pick to the Coyotes for goalie Patrick DesRochers on Dec. 31.
Pelletier began the season with Lowell of the American Hockey League, going 6-10-0, and finished it with Springfield of the AHL, where he was 12-7-4. His GAA with Lowell was 3.55, but he reduced that to 2.37 in 24 games with Springfield, Phoenix's top minor league affiliate.
