I know this is really early but I am curious. If the Canes are going to be moving up Sutter, Boychuk and etc... Who on this years team will not be re-signed? Walker is the only that comes to mind. No Cullen, no Whitney?

Thank you

I'd assume nothing until they've played at least 1/2 a season.

Holy time travel Batman.

Let's at least get this season started before we move on to next year. It's way too early to tell.

Yeah really! Does seem like people are anxious to get some of the old guys out after this season and the new guys in though.

The only one who sounds like a sure thing to me is Niclas Wallin (from what I have read). I wonder how that will happen... I hope he retires or decides to play at home in Sweden for a while. I really don't want to see Nicky playing for someone else in the NHL.

Luke addressed it on July 31 (http://blogs.newsobserver.com/decock/looking-down-the-road), so it was before Yelle signed, so put him at 4th line center this year insted of Ryan.

But here's his take on next year:

(1)-Staal-Ruutu
LaRose-Jokinen-Cole
Samsonov-Brind'Amour-(2)
(3)-Sutter-Kostopoulos

Pitkanen-A. Ward
McBain-Gleason
(4)-Alberts

C. Ward
Peters/Murphy

For slots (1) and (2), the Hurricanes could use Bowman and Boychuk, if they're ready. We can also assume slots (3) and (4) can be filled by players already with the organization for around $600,000 each, with someone like Conboy or Pat Dwyer at forward and Rodney or Carson on defense.
