I really don't have anything to say. I just think it's cool to be the first one to post in the game thread.

So, did we establish whether the Thrashers will have any kind of in-arena feed going, or will we be left to ChuckandtheletterK and our own imaginations?

I guess Mo is going to let the 'utes do the heavy lifting and hope for the best. I don't see the listed top line getting a ton of minutes. I hope we can find some kind of feed on this game because I'd like to see how the Yelle line and the Sutter line will look.

I guess this will probably end up being the end of the road for a couple more with the Rats camp starting Wednesday.

Glad we didn't get that line up

Alot more cuts will happen tonight. Mo mentioned how Friday night's game should be real close to the opening night roster. Plus Albany has two preseason games with the Phantoms this weekend.

A guess at the Thrashers' lineup via the Blueland blog:

Roster vs Carolina
2009 September 21

by Ben Wright

I’m at the Thrashers morning skate trying to figure out the lines for tonight. Here’s what it looks like so far:

Forwards

Kovalchuk-Antropov-Little
Kozlov-White-Peverley
Fritsche-Reasoner-Armstrong
Boulton-Slater-Thorburn

Defense

Hainsey- Kubina
Enstrom- Postma
Vernace- Popovic

Goalies

Hedberg- Legace

So. Um. Yeah.

hahah we're gonna get smoked.

I was searching around to see if there's a game feed online and found this:

I saw some feeds like this for other games in the preseason and they don't work. I'm not saying this one won't, but the other web pages I saw looked just like this one and I didn't have any luck.

Do we know if this game is going to be played? I had heard this morning that there was some "flooding" going on in parts of Atlanta/outside ATL. But I'm watching the evening news and it appears ATL is under water. They have had 10-15 inches of rain since LAST NIGHT. Roads are not passable, and schools are closed tommorow. OMG.

I don't think there will be too many people at Phillips Arena tonight- but the big question is will the players be there?

I'm listening to the real radio too. Every time Chuck mentions SamSOnov, I keep thinking "Who???"

Which reminds me, I heard Chuck when I went out in the concourse Friday night and I noticed he pronounced Nicholas Blanchard's name as Blon-Char. Blanchard is from Quebec and I wondered if he does say his name the French way rather than the English way or is this just another Chuckism. Anybody know?

Yes, thankS god the 99.9 feed is actually working again- I live in Apex, yet the 99.9 FM "regular radio" signal only seems to go to Ten-Ten road in Apex. We live past Ten-Ten so it dies after dark.

Oy. I completely forgot "Ed-bear" and never forget about SamsOnov, it's a running joke with me and hub, we always refer to him that way.

On the game- I'm going to be very sad when the kids, Boychuk, Bowman, Sutter get sent to Albany. I like that trio.

ETA: I guess we've spent our allotted 1 PP goal. Two PP's down the drain.

ETA x 2: C-girl, yes, it's "Blon'char"/French pronounciation- like Chuck does. Hub and I met his dad (who drove down here from Quebec w/ Nic's uncles) the first camp Nic attended and Mr. Blanchard introduced himself in the french pronunciation. It drives me batty to hear Chuck do though. :-

I agree. I don't get why we've not had a scrimmage in between these games or something. and shouldn't we have mixed more of our veterans in these four little games? A second game where it sounds like we're "sloppy".

Chuck was impressed by McBain and Forslund says that #16 was really impressive and "could make the team". At the expense of whom?

I'm weary of Maniscalco.

G-Vegas Caniac

Dang, there most be a lot of flooding problems going on around Atlanta. There was only 4,126 at the game. I think that's worse then the first Phoenix preseason game? Can't believe they even played tonight if it's so bad in the area?

SoCalcaniac

Well hopefully Mo stays true to his word that we'll be seeing the opening night roster or very close to it Friday. I sure would like the team to get more than 1 game in together before opening night.

It is still good to hear the kids, namely Sutter/Boychuk continuing to do well.

nccanes
09-21-2009, 08:44 PM
With 4 games, there's not a lot of time for anything.

Personally, I believe the preseason DOES matter, but I don't think the first 2 games of the preseason (especially with the rosters we've sent out) are that huge. Too bad we only have 2 left.

And with Mrs. Staal in "any day now" mode - we have to consider that he might be out for 1 of the final games as well.

KaniacFever
09-21-2009, 08:48 PM
I wonder if JR requested us to only have 4 or if that is what the league gave us. Montreal was playing their 5th game tonight and other teams have also already played 4 games with more to go.

SouthernHockeyChick
09-21-2009, 08:51 PM
I think teams design their own pre-season. JR was quoted somewhere talking about how he'd like to have had 5 but, there wasn't another team willing to give us just one game (or that could have been last season).

Every pre-season I find myself pointing out that we stunk pretty bad in pre-season of 05-06, too.:D

SoCalcaniac
09-21-2009, 08:56 PM
^ SHC, Mr. Socal said the same thing about us stinking in the 05-06 season too.

SHC's right, it was in Chip's blog/N&O about JR asking for 5 games, but the other team wanted a home and home situation and he only wanted us to play 5.

I question the 9 or 10 games some of these teams play. The Panthers are playing 9 games, and they're all in Western Canada (wtf) I think 5 or 6 games is more sane.

I was really hoping when there was no sign of #12 when they started coming out yesterday, that the Baby Staal watch was closing. Not trying to be pushy with nature or anything, but we need to see things move along there.

I don't want to burst too many bubbles, but the 2005 preseason (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/standings?year=preseason_2005)was far from stinky.

We were 5-2-1

Since then, it's been a pretty mixed bag. But in 05 we were killin' it because Lavi had taken the 'new rules' stuff to heart and our guys played pretty clean and waltzed thru the preseason. Didn't lose on home ice either.

I think we've pretty much played at season's beginning the way we have during the preseason. This really short 4 games it kinda stupid (imo) unless they were gonna go into Game 1 with about 30 guys on the roster max.

SouthernHockeyChick
09-21-2009, 10:09 PM
Oh well, it felt like it was stinky. Maybe those 3 losses came close to the end and bled into the first few games to me, or something. We won that fantastic first home game against the Pens but, we lost to the Islanders and Tampa pretty early on there and I remember that making me nervous.

I guess I partly figure, too, that is just doesn't matter at all anymore. We can start off crappy and miss the playoffs and we can start off crappy, pick it up and roll all the way to the ECF, too. No point getting worked up early when it's THAT unpredictable.

Heh, it's got to where by February -maybe- we'll have an inkling of an idea what kind of team we'll have.

Anyway:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/teams/schedule?team=car&year=2006&season=1

Yeah, that was a weird preseason, 4 home games in a row then 4 away games, then start the regular season with a 5-2 loss at Tampa, rookie goalie Cam Ward starts 5 games in a row to follow, then we go on a crazy 9 game winning streak only to lose 9-0 to Atlanta at home. My goodness what a season.

And yes, I remember 5-assist Hutch ;]

Wallin and Walker were wearing the 'A's.

Michael Ryan had very limited ice time (not much more than a minute), apparently he sustained an 'upper body' injury early and was held out for most of the game. Anyone hear anything about it on the radio feed or post-game? Precautionary?

Canes reduce the roster to 27 (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=499372&navid=DL%7CCAR%7Chome)

Bummed for Bowman, but I personally think that he'll get stronger down there- he's not as lanky as Sutter, but on that edge, and after he went back to Spokane last year, he made huge improvements and looks that much closer. Albany won't hurt him. Like I like to say: Eric Staal and Cam Ward played in Lowell/AHL for a whole year. Everyone who follows the team says the blessing of the lockout (if that ever made a lick of sense) was that they did play down there. These kids will be fine too.
