And, Timmy? I wouldn't mind a nice body slam against my "favorite" player while you're out there, m'kay???!!

I'm going to be relying on twitter for this and Saturday's game. I'll be in Charleston watching my nephew's hockey team play in a tournament. Go Storm!
I wouldn't mind hearing and later seeing a nice Timmy knock down. He doesn't even have to fight him, just knock him on his butt will do it for me. Although, if he wants to fight and kick the snot out of him, I'm all for that too :D

AO would never fight Gleason. A big hit from Gleason would be great and well deserved, but if he messes up and hurts AO or something, I'm sure Campbell would have him suspended before the end of the period. Also the Caps have a few punching bags that I'm sure will be keeping their eye on Gleason incase he even looks at AO in a bad way.

What about a nice OV sandwich between 6 & 8? Timmy and Matty could crush him nicely. Andrew is apt to give him a bump or twelve himself. As long as we play well (and really for 60 minutes... we've got to stop this playing only 50 min.), we'll be in the game. And if the Fins play like they did yesterday... we can take the game, too!

Yes, our #8 needs to stay FAR away from their #8. puck_it's right; Ovie weighs 235-240 and it's all bulk- he's a freight train. #6 will take the high road and keep going.
Besides, we don't need him in the box for anything- because we know how Tom Rowe has fits when he fights and gets 5 min in the box.

....and ass. When I saw him in Target I noticed how HUGE that thing is. As I said to a few of you, it's like Jeff O'Neill-huge.
(and that is not meant in a LT thread way...just in a "OMG that guy's ass is huge" way... overly large protruding man-asses are not really attractive. Ok - this is not really coming across like I'm trying...you get the idea).

At least not on AO the GR8 anyway.
I swear if I didn't have to already be in DC on Monday I'd head up there tomorrow for this game. And it's possible I could have been talked into making a detour by his house to drop off a Canes care package.

What in the Sam Hill is going on with the News and Observer? My paper-paper does not have a game day article or an "Eye on the Canes" (unless I'm really, really unobservant). There is an article about the Leafs/Bruins game, but no Canes?
And as thrilled as I was to see so much space devoted to the College Cup and the huge CASL soccer tournament (in which both of my boys' are particpating), with mentions of kids my kids have played with and against...Can they NOT manage to cover the 1 pro team in the region?
Or maybe they could have left out that RIVETING column by Caulton Tudor that discusses how....college exams are hard. WTF....I mean REALLY?

12-11-2009, 10:23 AM
There's nothing online in the blogs either, except for an article yesterday from Luke about a previous Hurricanes late-round draftee that's now with the LA Dodgers.
I guess it's a little telling that I didn't even consider what was available to read in either the online or print version of the N&O until you mentioned it, and I've been online reading news articles for a good portion of the morning. I guess I've been trained not to even venture over there unless Chip tweets that he's written something.
Mr. LTD sits down with the paper-paper every morning, but it's starting to hit me how seldom I do anymore.
You'd think they'd at least keep up with the team online. It's not like there hasn't been anything to talk about. And there's a LOT of talk going on everywhere else.
Bizarre.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:
E, I thought about you and the Big Ol Soccer Tourney, HOWEVER, I am troubled with not even a PEEP about the Canes in the paper. YES, they're on the road, we ALL know this. so now, is everyone supposed to just go over to the Canes now blog? Out of sight out of mind apparently. Very irritating. and yeah, Carlton Tudor- OMG dude, did you just figure out college exams are hard??? DUDE.
LTD, I'm like Mr. LTD, sit down and read the paper person. I think the practice of doing this is becoming antiquated and will soon go by the wayside, kinda like the rotary phone. ;- once again, I'll start questioning why I'm spending $$ for a "paper" when really I could just pull it up on the computer. Or just get a bunch of blank pieces and string them together.

Hurricanes Recall Dwyer, Tlusty from Albany
Cole and LaRose to be placed on injured reserve
Friday, 12.11.2009 / 10:25 AM / News (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/newsindex.htm?location=%2Fallnews)
By Terrell Williams
RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forwards Patrick Dwyer (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8470302) and Jiri Tlusty (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8473482) (YIH-ree T’LOO-stee) from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). Rutherford also announced that the club will place forwards Erik Cole (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8467396) (upper body – expected to miss 2-3 weeks) and Chad LaRose (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8469812) (lower body – expected to miss 3-4 weeks) on injured reserve. Dwyer and Tlusty will be on the ice for the Hurricanes’ morning skate today at Verizon Center, and are eligible to play tonight against Washington.
This marks the second NHL recall this season for Dwyer. The Spokane, WA, native played in six games and averaged 10:53 of ice time per game during his first recall this season from Nov. 19-30. Dwyer, 26, has played in 22 AHL games with the River Rats this season, and ranks first among Albany skaters with 11 goals, and tied for second on the team with 18 points. Dwyer (5’11”, 175 lbs.) originally signed with Carolina as a free agent in July 2006, and inked a new two-year contract with the club on July 1, 2009.
This marks Tlusty’s first recall to the Hurricanes after Carolina acquired him from Toronto on Dec. 3, in exchange for the rights to center Philippe Paradis. The Slany, Czech Republic, native is in his third full professional season in North America, and has played in 74 career NHL regular-season games with the Maple Leafs, scoring 10 goals and earning 10 assists (20 points). In 106 career AHL regular-season games with the Toronto Marlies and Albany, Tlusty (6’0”, 209 lbs.) has scored 43 goals and earned 60 assists (103 points), including eight goals and seven assists (15 points) in 20 games this season. The Maple Leafs drafted Tlusty in the first round, 13th overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
The Carolina Hurricanes continue their four-game road trip on Friday at the Verizon Center against the Washington Capitals (7 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network). After a game at Ottawa on Saturday, the Hurricanes will return to Raleigh and will host the Dallas Stars at the RBC Center on Wednesday, Dec. 16. Tickets for all Hurricanes games in December and January are available at the Time Warner Cable Box Office at the RBC Center, via Ticketmaster.

Canes recall Patrick Dwyer, Jiri Tlusty. Cole (upper body, 2-3 wks), LaRose (lower, 3-4 wks) to go on IR. More: http://carhur.com/347

Since I want to be a conspiracy theorist, and I really like our undefeated record this season when #17 is sitting, you bring up dwyer for larose, tlusty for cole (obviously you can compare tlusty's "power forward" game for cole and dwyer's for larose..but if you had intentions of playing brindamour why not scratch one of the two and only recall one? brindamour back out and samsonov back in tonight?

Someone on another board mentioned that during the game Wednesday night Cole went down hard behind the NJ net and was slow to get up. Perhaps that's a clue as to what happened. It's upper body so it's not any side effects from his broken leg. Obviously hoping it's not neck-related.
FinFan
12-11-2009, 11:10 AM
While I am also upset about this unfortunate turn of events, I'm going to look at the positive side. Dwyer has skated well, and now we get to see the newbie, who hopefully will show off as well. This gets our average age back down to a manageable, what, 29-30 now? :D
I also want to say that I'm a little upset with Chad to be skating for so long with an injury. Didn't he watch Eric go through what he did? Chad, you have ONE LOUSY goal this season. Get well and maybe you'll get more!

^ Good point.
Doesn't appear that Chip is on the road trip but Bob from Canes Country is there today, for those who don't get his tweets, he's reporting that Jiri and Pat Dwyer are on the ice for the pre-game skate along with Sergei and all three goalies are dressed. No changes on the blueline.
FinFan
12-11-2009, 12:24 PM
Dwyer gets the Staal line and Tlutsy on the Sutter line. I think that line is going to play well tonight (Sutter line) with Tom being the elder on that line.
Also said Erik's injury is "lingering", but not given any specifics. It's not the leg, because it's upper body. But they said UB with Sergei and he had a concussion. This worries me.

Projected lines based on this morning's skate from Canes Country preview (http://www.canescountry.com/2009/12/11/1196256/jiri-tlusty-looking-for-fresh#storyjump):
Staal, Whitney, Dwyer
Cullen, Jokinen, Ruutu
Sutter, Tlusty, Kostopoulos
Yelle, Brind'Amour, Walker
Glad to see the Cullen-en line left intact at least initially, but Coach's report is expect to see Dwyer moved around so I suspect all the lines to shuffle at some point.
Also reporting that while Cam gets the start tonight the plan is for Manny to get the start tomorrow night in Ottawa.
"I'm always trying to score some goals," Tlusty said. "I try to leave everything I've got out on the ice. And that is what I try to bring every single night. I will look to help on the offense, in any way I can and hopefully we can win some more games here, and start out from there."
Sounds like the kind of guy who likes to let it all hang out.

12-11-2009, 01:45 PM
Also from CC
LaRose's injury is a lower body concern that he has been fighting for some time. Maurice said that the forward had been trying to play through it "heroically".
The coach went on, "While our injury list has been long this year, the list of guys playing through injuries is even longer."
Yeah, no kidding. Hey, Mo! Look at the kids you're bringing down. They're doing good! Now let them play and get your bigs HEALED!
Granted, I know that plays havoc with the cap issue, which is why Chad and Erik are on IR, but dangit, I wanna watch good hockey on a winning team!
I thought I'd read that Michael was getting the start, but I could have misread Legacy for Leighton. I wish they didn't both start with "L".

I just heard the same thing on my way home. Was really hoping it wasn't his neck.
Forslund did also say that Cole had hoped to play this weekend depending on the results of the MRI, so perhaps that means he's not in too much pain. But they've also described the injury as "lingering" which may mean that something has been nagging awhile but just manifested to the point where they had to address it.
I mentioned above that someone saw him slow to get up from behind the NJ net Wednesday night but I don't know when that happened and haven't rewound the DVR to check it out to see if it provides a clue.

They were talking about Marty and that they're going to play them in 5 games. Nothing about what's happening on the ice. Granted, they were talking up Cam. FinFan- he took puck/stick/blocked an Ovie shot attempt. Poor you listening to those tools on WSH's radio cast. They spend the whole time talking about how great #8 is and rarely "call" the game.
We weren't doing much but sitting back and playing passive, and this is what we get.
Nothing good ever happens when Semin and his let me play at an every 3 or 4 games pace, comes into the lineup against US. His goal totals are surely slanted in our direction.
That Ruutu wave off- bull****. They just didn't want to over turn on Walkom.

WTF Cam, that one is on you!
Yeah, it's not on Joni at all, leaving Timmy all by his lonesome to deal with Semin.
No mention of the friggin' BRILLIANT save that Cam made on Semin thirty seconds earlier, either.
You people.

No word on what exactly happened to Timmy, er, WHERE it happened on Timmy, other than what LTD said?
He's stiched from his lip, up past his nose it looks like, wearing a full faceshield, and still busted his ass to try and make a play on that last goal.
Wonder if he lost any teeth

It wasn't the best option, sure, but the goaltender's job is to stop the first shot. He did that, and Captain Pinchy was nowhere to be seen to help clear the rebound.

I'm kinda thinking it doesn't matter- there was only one guy back in full face sheild no less. I lay it on all, except #6.
The play made by The Ditz created the crap shot choice by #36 and it all went to the the toilet.

We won't have to worry about Gleason fighting anybody for awhile now atleast
Although I'd bet that if he thought he "needed" too, he'd still do it...
By the way, this is Butters logged in under SC06.

It's funny, before all that mess at the end of the period I was commenting on how much of an impression Joni was making on the PP and that you could really see him taking control of puck distribution...and then the other side of his game showed up.
*sigh*
It wasn't the best option, sure, but the goaltender's job is to stop the first shot. He did that, and Captain Pinchy was nowhere to be seen to help clear the rebound. There was no shot. Gleason lifted Semin's stick and the puck slowly rolled in on Cam, who pushed it with his stick right back to Semin.

I suppose I should've said first chance...breaking up a centering pass doesn't count as a save but is just as good as one.
Anyway, none of that changes the fact that no one came back to take Semin.

NO. Probably because I've been cussing him out all night long. I don't know what the Frick & Frack that mess was at the end there- But it was HIGHLY reminiscent of Joe Vasicek losing his own board battle with Sergei Samsonov in Game 6, June 17th, 2006. :ticked::ticked::ticked: I mean Backstrom is a smallish dude, you need to fight the hell through that and gain control of the f'ing puck.
What grates on me, is the exertion required by us, just to get things going in their end, the attempts to create some crazy ass shooting gallery/chances etc., and we get zilch, and 10 seconds later, it's in our net. Absolutely FRUSTRATING.
So exhausting; however, Tim Gleason has stones. Huge ones.

I think that Patrick Dwyer looked fine, and so did Tlusty, but I think Dwyer deferred to the veteran Whitney and the star player Staal and could have taken some shots instead of passing Hopefully he'll get more comfortable as he adjusts. I love Sutter's game and Carson just doesn't look out of place.

Disappointing. :( I had to watch a little delayed. Just finished. When it got to OT after Tim's amazingly gutsy play, I really, really...... really..... wanted the win. Would have loved that for Tim.

Caught a couple of minutes of the post-game on the radio -- didn't get to see much of the game because I had a bang angle from our booth -- and that's what the guy (Mike M? I honestly pay no attention) said, that Timmy is the guy who will/deserves to be wearing the C somewhere in the NHL.

Kermie yeah, it's Maniscalco; Then tomorrow he'll say someone else deserves it. He talks in circles so much it makes my head hurt. it's almost like a parakeet- he feeds off stuff JF will say to him, (the Kings insider who said to JF when he called to find out about him when we traded, "he'll be captain one day") then he'll say stuff Chuck K says, and on and on. It's dizzying.
I agree Gleason is Capt. material, he is a throwback kinda player, and he's definitely what you want in a shutdown d-man. I'm feeling bad for him right now, because when he wakes up tomorrow, he's going to feel like hell.
No mention of any teeth loss or issues with his mouth. I hope not. After that Ian Lapierriere dealio earlier this year, I could see Timmy doing what he did and us finding out about it after the fact.
From the Russian blogger dude, Dimitry Chesnokov, via twitter:
dchesnokov Semin: "Until I scored I thought Legacy was in goal. I thought 'Wow, Legacy's playing well.' And after I scored I saw Ward's face."

I just don't really know what more to say... he's just so much of what's great about the NHL... his grit, determination, and character. I agree with those here who'd like to see him with a letter (and I feel like he does a good job leading by both example on the ice and speaking up to the media... I'd give him a +1 for the next in line for the C)

Watched the game online, about 10 of us crowded around the laptop. Timmy has major guts. I cannot believe he came back, but not only came back tied the game on a shortie. UNBELIEVABLE
And kudos to Joni for putting Ovie on his kiester, exactly where he belongs.

Why was Tlusty's ice time limited after he scored? Cam was sharp except for handing Semin his second goal by spitting that puck out. I guess Cam thought the period was over.
I am willing to bear Tim Gleason's children. Brindy should rip the C off his own jersey and place it in Gleason's hand.
