Has anyone received any further info on the STH party? I RSVP'd, and I have received no further details. Usually we receive some sort of timeline/schedule.

Nothing as of this morning- and you're right, we usually get them the schedule of events email a little further in advance. I wonder what the delay is..... Hopefully it'll be today and not on Monday morning.

I do have the little "Save the date" card, but it's just giving the date- 12/14 and for those not sure- it's 5pm to 8:30pm.

So, not only have we iced a team in complete disarray, but our front office is a mess as well...is this the trickle down theory?

I dunno. I'm of the opinion, even in our best days (the 05-06 season specifically) there's never been any kind of 'order' with anything related to the front office. Only if you're lucky to have Karen Prince help out with an issue or have a great ticket rep who is there to smooth something over, in my 10 years as a ticket holder, it's always been a little chaotic, but that's just my experience.

LeslieK- I think so!

Am I confused or is the autograph session longer? I thought it was only an hour all these years past.

Nope, same exact times for the autograph session as it was for at least the last two years.

Thanks for posting, Leslie! Now I can arrange my flight back from DC.

It's this banner, right? (http://www.letsgocanes.com/forum/showpost.php?p=519103&postcount=143)

Oh man how I would love to get a picture of that! Are you hitting his autograph line first? I may have to try to do the same just in case. You taking a camera to capture the moment?

Dammit100

that would be the banner, and I'll be hitting his line first. If there's a just and loving god, Tuomo will be at the same table so that he can laugh hysterically at it.

^OMG, I wish I could see that!!

For the first time since the lock-out I will be missing the STH party.:( But I'll be at Mickey Mouse's house so, it's OK.

Everyone give Cully some love for me, though. It will probably be his last party here.

Were they reading LGC again?

It wouldn't be the first time they've sent something out to address an issue immediately after it became a topic of discussion here!

Well, I had no agenda of any kind for Monday night other than to go and have fun and maybe print out a couple of pictures to get signed, but now I'm on a mission.

:smoke:

EETA: Canes org, if you *are* watching, here's an idea. The players who are on a line together, put them at an autograph table together. Just a thought.

So... I snagged a couple of tickets to this for the first time. This is probably a bit weird to ask, but are people really dressed up for this or not? Maybe I'm thinking of the Casino Night, but I thought I remembered seeing everyone really dressed up. Will I be out of place wearing my jeans?

Nope jeans are good. Most people wear their jerseys or other Canes swag.

State of the Canes summary?

Since Forslund was on TV and not here, we had Tripp, who as you all know can be an adventure. He's not polished like JF is so the whole thing started with Tripp going back to his days with The Coach in junior hockey to his brief stint with the Flyers org, then his brief stint with the Canes- including when Mo sent him down to the minors. All in a very funny schtick between Tripp & Mo.

They discussed the players, almost all of them, (except AWard, and Rod was briefly mentioned in the past tense) and then they went through the call ups (Tlusty, Carson, Rodney, Dwyer,) spoke at length about Brandon Sutter and his future (The Coach is head over heels for Brandon) and the #30 and 12 injuries and how shutting #12 down to heal "both injuries" (the groin, hurt at team Canada orientation, and then the ab/oblique tear because he was overcompensating) and then a very lengthy conversation on how the team has not given up on each other, and how he hasn't given up on this season and the team.

They talked about the fans, the base, Tripp mentioned he was watching the game vs MN (our home game) with his mom since it wasn't a televised game, and how he could hear the cheering and the fans not "giving up" on the Canes, etc. Mo went on about how this building, these fans "are the difference" went on to a story about how when he was 'on the other bench' there was a game, when we came back to beat TO in OT, and how the "fans directly influenced the refs arms going up" he said "you could see he was getting ready to do it, I was screaming he better not do it, then the arm went up, they scored on the PP and we lost in OT".

He talked about the positivity in the room, and how they're getting through these "last two horrible months" because we don't give up and we don't quit.

Intersting take on Pat Dwyer and how professionally he handles the up and down nature of his role, and how as a coach he wants the young guys called up to understand, just because you get the call, doesn't mean you've "made it".

The conversation was less structured, went on alot of tangents- mostly Tripp and him letting us know that he's getting old.

The STHer party as a whole was good. I was bummed not to see #6, but really glad I got to Ray Whitney's table, Jussi & Joni were as sweet as they could be, and I really felt for Aaron who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there. That's when you see the human side of pro hockey.

It was a decidedly lightly attended event. I'm used to it being far more chaotic, more people all over, and it just wasn't that way. The lines weren't bad at all. The players were all really nice- I enjoyed speaking with Jay Harrison and Manny Legace- I told Legace, he could be my parents next door neighbor - a surfer back home in socal. He laughed and said, he didn't think he'd do too well on the water. I told him he's a goalie, he can handle some waves.

This was the highlight of the night for me. Well, not really, but pretty darn close. Poor Jussi is going to catch grief over this for a loooooong time. Ray was laughing his ass off.

There are a few more on the way. And judging by his reaction when I asked about it, the sign must have made its way around to the third Finn's table too

Couple of things SoCal left out in the Mo conversation with Tripp. First, a prevailing theme was the continued reference to Tim Gleason's cojones.

And then when Tripp was talking about a game where he thought he might be tapped to come in I think it was against Eddie Belfour in net and Tripp said he was high on the prospect of coming in and maybe pulling out a win and Mo said, "Yeah, you were high all right."

Oh yeah, it made quite the impression.

Did anyone see Joe Corvo? I wanted to get to his table but it took me close to 50 freaking minutes to get through the line to see Ruuty and by then it was too late. :(

I only made it to two tables this year, last year I was good for three, so for me I thought the lines were a tad longer than what I was in last year.

Junior toured press row which he thought was quite awesome, and he and Mr. LTD ran into Nic Wallin while they were down touring the locker rooms.

Oh, and I thought the food was quite good. I had the chicken panini, which I'd not tried before.

SoCalcaniac
12-14-2009, 10:53 PM
Oh yeah, I forgot about the cajones thing. I actually texted E the whole play by play of that little ditty. Tripp is literally a Trip.

We got cut off at the Corvo line at 7:10. I was not happy. The kid (maybe 19) behind me in the Staal line (finally got my Atlanta All Star Hat Trick Staal Jersey signed!) and his girlfriend said they got through Corvo's line in "5 minutes". It didn't look long when I finished at Eric's table, but that usher running things was a a stickler for the 7:30 end time. I'd guess there were maybe 40 or so people over there, but she was shooing peeps out, so we were jobbed there. Was very bummed to miss out on that table.

I think the issue with the lines was the lack of structure. Used to be, they'd be very much the stickler for 1 item signed per player and take a pic but don't hold up the line. That thing has gone out the window. and it's a free for all. There is no order, heck they don't even put the signs up indicating who's in what line, which is really weird.

LTD, I love the pic of Joni laughing at Jussi's So Sexxy Pic. Did you show the pic to Mr. Socal? I was telling him about it, and he couldn't stop laughing.

Oh, the "funny" of the evening for me- Hub comes up to me in the Staal line and says watch the blonde about 10 in front of you- so I watch her; I get my things signed by Manny, Jay Harrison and then Eric, and meet up with Hub. He tells me he saw her in The Eye, where he went to buy a gift for a coworker who couldn't come -the blond asks a clerk "who's the most famous person here tonight" the clerk says #12, she buys a tee shirt with #12 on it, tells the clerk I'm getting a picture and and autograph and leaves; sure enough she's in line, and I observe her lying on the table and doing her best to get cheek to cheek with Eric. She reminded me of the White House Crashers. I don't think she knew a lick about the Canes, since she didn't know who was "famous" but she wanted a momento. Maybe she thought she was in LA.

Poor Jussi. If any team won't let him forget this one, this is the team

Had a good time as well. This year we only got through 2 tables, whereas, last year we got through 3. First we hit up the Ruutu table. Scottie got dressed up for the occassion and put his teeth in . Chad was normal Chad, although, he did tell us that he won't be back anytime soon. Alberts is a real nice guy, first time I've met him. And Ruutu was just as pleasant as can be. And I did sneak a pic with him. Luckily the person I was with was holding up the line chatting with Chad so I could get the pic with Ruuuu.

We then headed to the Brindy line since it was right there, plus Sutter was there. My nephew wears #16 on his team and his birthday is Friday so figured I'd get Sutter to sign a puck for him. When we got in line, the security 'marker' was there. It was only 6:30 and she's like you can stand here but there's no gurantees. I've done this many times and knew we would be out by 7:15pm. And of course we were out of there at 7 on the dot. Didn't bother going to another line knowing they were shutting them down in 15 minutes. So got my dippin dots and settled in for State of the Canes. Everyone at that table was awesome (Brindy, Sutter, Samsonov, Carson).

I think that was the most I've ever laughed at the "State of the 'Canes" session. A lot of times, they'll tell stories I've heard before-- but this time, they were all new to me. I enjoyed the easy banter between Chip & Mo, and laughed-out-loud several times.

I made it through 3 tables, and was happy to accomplish my #1 goal while there, as a gift to a friend. And... btw.... thanx again, SoCal for your spare tix! Me & Mr. CL were grateful (and poor Mr. CL, he was starting to feel bad at the tail end of everything, and by the time we got home, he felt like he has a full-blown cold. :( )

I was having guys sign my jersey, who hadn't done so before. And then, if there was someone at the table who'd already signed it, I had them sign my poor 'ole Stormy doll's shirt which I've had for quite awhile.

I had some fun w/Chad. When he handed me back the Stormy Doll, poor Stormy's shorts were down around his ankles (the elastic is totally dry-rotted inside the casing--totally shot), so I said, "Chad! Did you just pull-down Stormy's pants!" And his eyes were just huge round saucers when he laughed and said, "No!!!"

And... btw.... thanx again, SoCal for your spare tix! Me & Mr. CL were grateful

I knew you were grateful when we talked about the tix back at Camp Brind'Amour. No need to say thanks- I could tell you had a blast as we were crackin' up at Tripp's stories. Hope hub gets to feeling better!

I think every year, the fun of the event for me has been hearing the stories of the interaction with the players. Regardless of how bad this season has been, and it's been hellish at best, I am never disappointed in how engaging and terrific these players are to the fans. Some of the exchanges I have witnessed have been priceless, and don't get publicized, but it's my opinion that the players get a kick out of the fans, and I've never seen anything but sincerity and can't count how many times I've had a player say "thank you for your support, we appreciate it" to the people who stand in line for them.

Darkwing, yeah, I thought the same thing as I was standing waiting for the people in front of me taking pics with Whitney and having him sign all their stuff; he was smiling and enjoying watching the people take pictures and he was really having fun with the 2 kids in that group; he was playing rock/paper/sissors with a little boy while he waited for his mom to take a pic w/13.

Joni, hasn't really shown his personality much, he kinda seems guarded to me but that's what we could see when he played in PHI and EDM, but now, he seems more comfortable you can see him being kinda silly and goofy in practices; at more than one practice I've been at, I seen him make silly faces at the kids down on the glass- and he'll start cracking up when they realize he's doing it to them.

I thought he was really having a great time last night, he was either laughing or smiling.

Got through three tables-- Brind'Amour, Whitney/AWard and Ruutu-- which surprised me. Got all three Finns sigs and all the "special" items I wanted sigs on I was able to get. Don't know how I was able to get through, but was told at Ruutu's table that the guys agreed to stay later to sign things-- they were the only table left signing...

Oh and one thing I did get a kick out of at the state of the canes address.

Mo was talking about Carson/Harrison and he kind of rolled into the next year you'll see a tougher defense. Went on how Gleason is, Corvo isn't much, and Joni is just sneaky mean

Then when Mo was talking about Tlusty, he compared him to a 'mini Joni'

Who do I contact for lost and found? I dropped my kids jersey and it suddenly disappeared :( It is a red jersey size 4-6 with sigs from Kaberle, Justin williams, and corvo on the back :(

had a great time thanks to Butters aside from my loss of my sons jersey and lugging a gleason jersey when he wasn't there. Loved seeing a lot of you guys there too.

My moment. In the lockerroom. Reading the Canes credo. "We will not accept losing." They really don't.

as far as lost and found, contact guest services. good luck tho bc the lady there is about as helpful as a ton of bricks. my hubbt lost my cell phone there a few years ago, I had to fill out a lost form and wait. I ended up getting a hold of security and *they* even said she was quite unhelpful! unfortunately, you are probably out of luck in getting it back but I hope some honest person found it and did the right thing(turn it in)
