Some random thoughts...

I always look forward to watching the brothers Ruutu battle each other. Hopefully they'll get some ice time together tonight. :D

I haven't paid much attention to the Sens so far this year. It didn't dawn on me until the other night when I was listening to the Sen/Flyers on XM on my way home that they had picked up Jonathan Cheechoo and I got to hear a play called from Ruutu to Cheechoo. Now if they could only pick up Jordin Tootoo...

I know there are some Mike Fisher fans here. He participated in the Olympic Torch Relay as the torch makes its way through Ottawa, there's a nice article (http://senators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=509582&navid=DL|OTT|home) and photo gallery (http://senators.nhl.com/club/gallerylanding.htm?id=11114&navid=DL|OTT|home) posted on the Sens site.

Brian Elliott will be in goal tonight.

Coming out of last night's game the plan was for Legace to get the start tonight. Don't know if that changed. Don't know if they even practiced today. News is a little sparse today.

Shame we won't have Sens killer Joe Corvo in our lineup.

And I'll bet Timmay is one hurting puppy today, bless his big ole heart.

Looks like the game thread is a little quiet! I'm guessing people are all running around busy like we were all day, I'm still grappling with the fact that it's DEC 12.

LTD's right, the news has been a little sparse today. I did find this interesting, since I don't recall getting any tweets in the past on the subject:

The Hurricanes just wrapped up their pre-game team meeting in Ottawa. Canes vs. Sens tonight at 7 on FOX Sports Carolinas and 99.9 The Fan.I'm just glad to know any little bit of info! I kept saying to hub- have you gotten any tweets from the Canes? I'm guessing they probably didn't have a morning skate since they played last night. Just odd because they're pretty regular tweeters.

I hope Jarkko does get to play against #15. that should be fun.

I really don't know what to expect tonight- I'm just going to hope for a good game, and pray when they do show Timmy, he's not completely black and blue in the face. I could have sworn when they showed him close up there was this purple/blue shadow building along with the swelling. did he even sleep last night? Oy.

This is one of 3 HNIC games on CBC, so someone is going to get to wear the HNIC towel on the shoulder for the 2nd intermission interview. Always cool, we just won't get to see it.

I think he was one hurting puppy during the game last night. I still can't believe he came back in the game.

cant wait to see his face tonight now that it's cleaned up, try to figure out the extent of the damage. i bet it's pretty damn gnarley though.

Sergei and Nic Wallin still out of the lineup tonight along with the expected others, so far sounds like no changes from last night's lineup except Legace.

Ruuu Hoooo - Ruuty on the wing with Staal and Whit tonight!

Tommy K to take his place on Cully's line.

^ Haven't seen anything Will.

Timmy looks better than I expected. Not quite as black and blue as I thought he'd be.

ETA: Crap, Kovalev from had to have been less than three inches out.

Afraid to see how many shots we had in the 1st. It's a constant dump the puck fest. That is if they even get the puck past center ice.

Great play by #12 to advance the puck and get that shot off and the Wizard getting to the rebound.

Fitting that it's #13 wearing the shoulder towel on HNIC intermission. (http://twitpic.com/ta88t)

In the words of Tripp, third period, 3 days between games, end of the roadie, empty the tank.

Poor Forslund. It appears Tripp is in his overly chatty mode. All kinds of crazy stories and JF just endures.

While the Ottawa radio announcers actually keep you up with what's going on the ice, I really didn't care for how the color guy said we are a HORRIBLE team. I mean, he emphasized the HORRIBLE over and over and over. Yes, the Sens are playing bad, too, but we're playing good lately.

Yes, again we were out (putting up the in-law's Christmas tree), but that is why I LOVE my SiriusXM radio.

Let us get the puck out of our end, please.

Okay, that sucked. Back home to rest and recoup and let's beat Dallas on Wednesday! I'll be there.

We had all the momentum and then the stupid penalty.

SoCalcaniac
12-12-2009, 09:53 PM
Joni is a screw up. That's all there is to it. That penalty was right up Aaron Ward's alley- I mean it was text book. Must be the disease going around.
The penalty should be killed, and if I'm The Coach, you need to make them pay when they take bad penalties.

What a friggin drag. If we won this game, there would be some buzz to get people into the building. Right now, who knows what this homestand will look like.

Next game, Joni will be the next coming of Bobby Orr. The next, a #$%@&!#" moron! The next, the greatest passer of the puck in the history of hockey.

That's our Joni.

The Hurricanes seem to always have a knack for finding a way to lose, the heroics of one player (i.e. Gleason) always seem to be matched by the awfulness of another.

Yeah, that was a really crappy penalty to take at a really bad time in a game and it probably cost us at least a point maybe two.

I was a little astounded when I read on the TOI report (if I'm reading it right) that Joni had been on the ice for over 2 minutes when he got called for that penalty (which was a legitimate call btw but Ray took the refs to task in his post-game comments for making what he said was a "marginal" call at a crucial point in the context of the game). He played 31:11 last night.

Dan Boyle leads the NHL in average TOI at 27:06. Over the last four games on our road swing, Joni's TOI has averaged 29:52, almost 3 minutes more per game. I can certainly understand how that could lead to some of his physical and mental lapses. He's been paying a price for our depleted blueline.

I have a suggestion...stop pulling the muthafunking goalie!! It works against us more than for, and I'm sick of being sure of an ENG being scored on us. A score of 4-2 wasn't as indicative of how close the game really was, imho.

superdave
12-13-2009, 03:49 PM
It's work to watch this team most nights and this one was no different. They pass horribly and then they pass too much and shoot not enough. You aren't going to win many when you are giving the other team about 15 more shots a game than you are putting on goal. Joni's penalty was at a horrible time but he's getting riden like a pack mule every night.

The call ups are pulling their weight. It's ashamed that many of the regulars can't say the same thing. Staal isn't a difference maker at this time. It makes me wonder if he hates to lose enough.

Is there a difference between losing by 20 or by 1?

yeah, we lose by 20 more often than we lose by 1

I hope you were consulting to the Canes on "how to keep a team from scoring twice in less than two minutes, with a focus on less than one minute"
