Boys are back home. Fingers crossed. If they manage a "W," I'll be so happy at the news that I won't mind that I had to trade-in these tickets for another game. Cheer loudly for me folks

Puck-drop at 7:00PM

LET'S GO 'CANES!!

I forgot to mention several promotions going-on for this game:

*BOGO - If you bring a canned good, you can get a voucher for a BOGO offer for the game

*It's also a "College Night," so there's discounts available:http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=45191

*The handbell group, "The Raleigh Ringers," will perform the National Anthem and also provide some Christmas tunes during the Intermission breaks.

Yep, it's the Hurricanes Wives Toy Drive. I just packed a bag with our donation for the kiddos.

Oh and I'm so thrilled about the Raleigh Ringers! I remember they had them a few years back in the intermissions. I enjoyed that a ton.

Let's hope for a good crowd. It's the holidays AND Mr. Socal's birthday, so we need a WIN. For some reason, hub's birthday is often a gameday for us, he's 5-1-1 over the years on his b-day. Pretty good eh?

Did we send Harrison and Carson back down after the OTT game? (I am really losing track of things this season.)

livinthedream
12-15-2009, 06:09 PM
No they are both still here and both practiced today.

I think we knew at least one of Dwyer/Tlusty would get sent back up assuming Sergei is ready to go tomorrow night, and he did practice today.

But I think the real question is why Rodney? Unless 1) one of Harrison/Carson gets sent back down, 2) Gleas can't go, 3) something's up with AWard?

nccanes
12-15-2009, 06:10 PM
Ok - so either Gleason (or somebody) can't go - or something with AWard I guess. My guess is it's the former.

KaniacFever
12-15-2009, 06:47 PM
Per Branecky Ward is playing tomorrow, but Gleason is questionable.

In other Canes waiver news, defenseman Aaron Ward cleared waivers and remains with the team. He practiced with the team on Tuesday and is expected to play against Dallas at the RBC Center Wednesday night.

snip

They may also need a defenseman, as Tim Gleason and Niclas Wallin did not practice for the second consecutive day. If neither can play, defensive help in addition to the already-recalled Brett Carson and Jay Harrison would be needed

Expect traffic delays tonight on the way home from the game in the 40 & 54 area. From today's N&O (http://www.newsobserver.com/news/traffic/story/242913.html):
Starting at midnight, drivers in both lanes of westbound I-40 will be routed onto the N.C. 54 off-ramp to cross N.C.54 and continue down the on-ramp onto I-40. All lanes are expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Thursday.

Eastbound I-40 drivers will make the same side trip at the N.C. 54 exit starting at midnight Thursday.

Starts at 9 tonight
The work also will affect drivers trying to get onto I-40 from N.C. 54. Starting at 9 tonight, the on ramp from northbound N.C. 54 to westbound I-40 will be closed, and drivers will be directed to use the ramp from southbound N.C. 54.

I'm bummed that Tlusty is having visa problems. I really wanted to see him live. Since I caught the weekend games via stream, I didn't get to really see him. And since we had trouble getting the stream at first, I missed his first goal.

Oh well. Its Game Day :nanner: and I'm freakin excited.

DAMN. That was my concern, when he got Monday "off" and then didn't practice yesterday. I could see him out for a day just because they'd want to keep him out after that injury, but two days out, there would have to be a good reason --- I just hope he passes all the baseline tests.

I miss the old days of satellite tv (remember the huge dishes in the yard) when all channels were free. Of course, you'd have to make a trip to the dish dealer occasionally to get a new chip for your receiver to unscamble what the networks just scrambled. You could hear some real interesting conversations. Dick Vitale would curse like a sailor.

Really nice third period for the Canes..fantastic forechecking....both the first and third were great...the second was the shell period, but they survived.

It looked like Whitney was trying to get Ruutu the hat trick both times....just too many Stars the first time to mess around with that....but I nice teammate move that ended up working out.

I thought Joni had a fantastic game as did Jussi...might be a three fin star brigade.

Just got back - what a terrific terrific effort. Best part is the first missed EN - Dallas almost own-goaled it. Massive unselfishness by Whitney and Ruu still getting the EN for the hatter after the PP was called (for what should have been a PS - Ruu got flattened going for it.)

No more time now but props to all tonight - great team effort - great Finnish

Well, they've done it for opposing players, lol. Somehow, between the stat people and Brian Hoyle's brain/voice, it got lost.

When I heard the radio call and Carson got an assist, I immediately wondered (and Chuck immediately commented). How they can't figure that **** out in the arena is beyond me.

You can't re-exchange according to the FAQ (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=46026):
All exchanges are subject to availability and will be exchanged for equal or lesser valued tickets only. Single game ticket purchases and prepaid parking passes are not eligible for exchange at any time. All exchanges are final and once a ticket has been exchanged it is not eligible to be exchanged additional times. Only original game tickets are valid for exchange. Forwarded tickets will not be exchanged under any circumstances.

I don't know if the voucher ticket is eligible.

Its a Finn night in Raleigh. :nanner:

I knew I was excited for this game. Whitney did have a clear shot to the open night but he was waiting for Ruutu to get opened. Unfortuntly none of the Star players wanted Ruu to get the hatter. Karma played out in a nice way by still allowing Whitney to get the pass to Ruutu. I love those unselfish plays. Twice Whitney could have just shot it, but he gave it up for a teammate. Tis why I love this team.

Thought the kids on Defense did a hell of a job tonight. I commented to the boyfriend on that first PP that you know its bad when Rodney/Carson are on the PP, then boom, Rodney makes a beauty of a pass to Jokinen for the goal. I'm enjoying watching the kids.

And one of these days Pitkanen is gonna bite that tongue off. Dude trips me out, head bobbing up and down and the tongue hanging out

Loving the Finns. Loving the kids. Loving Ray's unselfishness (even though he really should have buried that first one). Totally amazed that this was Ruu's first hat trick. I would have thought he'd have several by now. And Staalsy has 13 points in 10 games. I hope that shuts down those trade Staal rumors. And I though AWard played his best game all season.

Boy - Chuck sure makes it sound like Ray should have gotten the EN goal when he had the chance. If it's as bad as he's making it sound...that's a pretty big mistake with that much time left.

YEP. He should have had that ENer. I said to hub- that's gonna cost us some how; and then of course they scored and made it 4-3. OY.

The game overall was good. That sag in the 2nd I could have done without, and seeing the Finns all named in the 3 stars was awesome. Ruutu's first hat trick. I'm shocked at that stat, but what a great thing.

I hate that SHC wasn't in the bldg to see this. Speaking of the bldg, I thought it was good crowd, and it was nice to see the wives very busy with all the toys when we dropped off a few for the toy drive.

I am so pleased with Rodney, Carson and Harrison. I thought Carson started off jittery, but then he just took off.

I thought AWard worked hard. I liked that Sutter line, that nifty steal from Loui Erickson and he almost scored. that was something. Dwyer and TommyK did great work on that line.

Dallas looked to me, like a team that thought they'd just show up and win. I know he's supposed to be a good guy, but wow, Turco looked awful out there. The whole team looked disinterested, and I'm glad we took it to them.

I'm hopeful for good things for this group. The Canes have not had a lot of "luck" because they've not made any luck for themselves. Tonight we had some things go our way, but we worked for those things. I feel like Cam is getting closer and will get better. He seems like he's still trying to get comfortable out there, I think he's getting used to the padding?

Great team effort. I'm so happy for Mr. Socal. He got another win on his birthday. He's got a nice streak going on, lol.

Eric Staal is starting to look like Eric Staal. LTD has had quite a nite. I'll let her expound.

I'm personally ready to pack to go to Finland now.

Just got home. I am definitely living out my screen name. I'll expand on that more later but I'm completely wiped out and haven't eaten anything since early this morning.

That Ray Whitney, he's a good teammate. I know he almost caused some trouble (and caught quite a bit of sh!t for it from his teammates) but it was so awesome that not once but twice he tried to set up my Ruuty to give him his first hat trick. I love you Ray. Almost as much as I love my Tuomo. Couldn't be prouder. He finally has his hatty (yes, I knew it was going to be his first, the anticipation was KILLING me). I'm not sure I've ever seen him smile that big, and that's saying something. Finns for the three-stars trifecta. Staaly, Cam, our call-ups, lots of praise to go around. There was music in the locker room.

It would have been hard for me to script out a more perfect night at the hockey rink.

I just finished downloading pictures and haven't even looked through them all yet, and these are not my two best ever by any stretch of the imagination but they'll probably be two of my favorites because they make me smile. They're from Ruuty's first goal.

Last night at Canes Corner he was asked specifically about the chemistry on the line with Cully and Jussi, and he made the comment that he likes the chemistry with everyone on the team, and he said when you play hockey with people that are your friends off the ice you'll play well on the ice too.

I saw a lot of joy between teammates in a lot of moments on the ice tonight. Plus Staal cracks me up leaping over Turco's pads.

Whitney on the EN was unselfish, yes, but also incredibly stupid. Dallas were one scramble away from tying the game because Whitney wanted Ruutu to pick up an arbitrary statistic. As soon as he didn't pot it, all I could hear in my head was Ray Ferraro yelling, "YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASED FOR WHAT YOU JUST DID."

The kids in the back looked good tonight. Rodney was a little risky, which is to be expected, but his delivery on the Joni play was gorgeous.

The eight million dollar fourth line looked good getting a regular shift, especially coming on after the goals. They weren't nearly as good, but there was a definite Adams/Adams/LaRose vibe for those guys in their role tonight.

Cam made a couple of excellent saves that didn't look like much on first glance, and Turco gave us a couple of softies, but a win's a win.

This made me laugh, from this morning's N&O (http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/nhl/canes/story/244846.html).

Nor did he want a keepsake. After the third goal, a referee handed him the puck. Ruutu tossed it into the stands.

What a Ruuty thing to do. Love it.

Oh, and for those who weren't in the arena and were watching/listning, I'm assuming you didn't hear the anthem. It was performed by the Raleigh Ringers as CL mentioned earlier in the thread, and since they were ringing bells there was no singing. So this is what you heard in the arena:

I hate that SHC wasn't in the bldg to see this.

I hate that I wasn't in the building, either! But I'd loved getting the team's tweets while we were working on closing and packing-up our final performance of A Christmas Carol. Everytime my pocket vibrated (from my cell), I'd look over at L. (one of my "dressers") who's a Caniac, and we'd grab hands, and hold our breath hoping for good news as I checked the screen-- and then if it WAS good news we'd do a "happy dance," which it's a good thing we're not the choreographer for ACC, because that's basically just jumping up & down! LOL

I did get to see the highlights on On the Fly, so at least I got to hear some crowd noise and see the awesome goals.

That game was incredible. The last two we've been to have had hat tricks. I'd love it if that would become a trend! Staalers looked relieved to get that goal. And Tuomo... sweet, sweet Tuomo. He was eating up that RUUUUUUUUUUUUUU chant from the crowd. I was surprised at first that it was the three Fins, but just screamed louder when it was. I need a Finnish flag!

The three goals Cam gave up were exactly the same. Every last one of them. He slid over to block the shooter, who passed and put it in the other side where there was NO DEFENDER! It got better as the game wore on, especially after the third goal. But Dallas was playing so long behind the net that the D had to chase him out, which ended up leaving one side of the net open. But Cam is looking really good.

It was about 2:10 when they pulled the goalie. When Ray got the puck, I was going, "Where's Ruuty? Let's get him a hat trick." Unfortunately, he was well covered. Then they scored and I was like, "I bet Ray's wishing now he'd taken that shot." It all worked out in the end, though.

Ray had some of the best stick work I've seen from him in a long while. He stole the puck 4-5 times in a row. That entire line was clicking on all cylinders. The whole team seemed much better, except for the 2nd period lapse. It was like we'd forgotten how to skate or something. We always have these spots where we aren't skating well. At least it was in the middle and not the end. Otherwise, they had great energy. Great crowd and a fantastic Finnish night!

From the mindset that this season might still go somewhere :) a great, important comment. From the mindset that arbitrary statistics are pretty much all we've got... :) Still, good to win. Let's play .700 hockey the rest of the way and make a run, eh? CHARGE!

Thanks to the kindness of a friend I got to spend some time down at ice level where the real photographers work and I got to take some shots through the holes in the glass. The pictures I took ^^^ were from about a foot in front of Alex Auld at the visitor tunnel (I was shooting through the glass for those which is why you see some blurriness). Yeah, it was quite an experience and I was VERY fortunate to have the opportunity to do it. It was a "dream come true" evening for me even before the hat trick.

I've started an album (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jbk-ltd/sets/72157623016578362/) from the game but I don't have a lot uploaded yet, mainly just a few photos from warmups, and it will be a pretty big album when it's all done because I took a lot of photos of our players and the Dallas players. But I probably won't have a chance to work on it again until later in the weekend, after which time I'll be even further behind with tomorrow night's game and then the Rangers right behind it LOL.

I hate that SHC wasn't in the bldg to see this.

Thanks!

I knew it would be an awesome game. We almost never miss a game so when we do, it's bound to be noteworthy, lol. We haven't checked yet, but I sure hope we got the CI broadcast on the DVR. Looks like I'll need it after I watch this Panthers game....

Even if he didn't, when Stefan missed that empty net in Edmonton, there were 11 seconds left, and the Oilers still had enough time to tie it.

I thought it then, I think it now, and it actually came up in conversation the other day....Ferraro was an over-reacting jacka**.

I wouldn't disagree that his reaction was over the top, and the situation with Whitney was a little different than Stefan decided to trundle the puck in instead of wristing it. Still, you score when you have the chance.
