I had to laugh last night when JF was on with MM and he talked about heading "down to the barren wasteland of the NHL that is Florida". Ziiiiiiing!

I cracked up at Forslund. He really has no love for "South Florida".

Yes, please do not do not waste all of this feel good stuff, and turn out a clunker. It will just be a KILLER.

So with the winter weather supposedly coming tomorrow afternoon through Saturday, wonder if either team will get into Raleigh Friday night.

The Kitty Cats are beatable. I really dislike them and I'd love nothing more than a Canes win.

Actually.... I hope both teams are in Sunrise, FL on Friday night.... since that's where the game is. ;)

They arrived a few minutes ago and close to on time, so hopefully that means Tuomo can make his 4:45 appearance on XM/NHLN.

So - I have big dinner plans tonight, so the game goes on the DVR (and twitter adjustments made).

News from the "barren wasteland"

Gregory Campbell, who sustained a head injury when colliding with teammate Bryan Allen on Dec. 7 against Edmonton, went through practice Thursday morning without any setbacks and will play against the Hurricanes.

``I feel good,'' Campbell said. ``It's been a long 10 days or so. You almost feel like you're an outcast sort of thing. One of the best things about hockey is spending time with your teammates, and now I'm excited to get back.''

Center Kamil Kreps might miss Friday's game with an injured rib after slamming into an open door by the Panthers bench in Wednesday's game against the Thrashers.

David Booth is still out.

I believe Stillman has been out....can't find if he'll play or not, he was skating on Wednesday.

C'mon Mo - please beat your best bud Pete!

Wow, the FLA dudes seem to be having these weird/freakish type injuries.

I read somewhere on George Richards Panthers blog that Booth had started skating. E, I believe Stillman had a knee injury and has been out (?) I can't recall if he has come back recently, I've not watched much of the Panthers, they have that Moeller dude on the broadcast now that they got rid of Denis Potvin, and he just sucks. Difficult to watch so I don't.

Now that hub's birthday has officially passed, it's the holidays for us, so we're picking up and putting up our tree today. Canes, please make it a festive evening, the Panthers are no different than Dallas- they're beatable, so beat them, ok? thanks.

I'm not going to be stealing time for this one tonight, I'm going to be out partaking in some yuletide cheer in the neighborhood. I will have my Blackberry with me though, so to those of you who have my number, you know I always appreciate the text updates and tweets!

Any "Dish" viewers here. I kicked DIRECTV (after eleven years) to the curb today and now have Dish. The game is not listed in the guide, but channel 420HD has a block of time undesignated... is that the game? Thanks

That was a gorgeous shot. Great passing. Those drills are paying off!

And Cam, wow, he's now playing fantastic in goal. Let's hope we don't have a down 10 in the rest of the game.

Anything worth watching from the broadcast or just hit the old 'delete' button and be done with it?

Or not. :(

Well thank goodness that JF and MM basically called our hockey team, and yes, the "future captain" was specifically called out, a collective bunch of wimps during the postgame. The only thing they didn't point out was that our passive style, employed by the coach, leads to no other conclusion.

I don't think "showing up" after the score is 5-1 makes much difference.

How about playing both ends of the ice.

Just because your scoring chance didn't work out, is that a reason to pout and just "hang out"?

He just seems like a moody personality that doesn't seem to take a team that is struggling, and make them better, but to lull about in the problems that exist. There's no take charge in his game this year.

That's not the leader we're paying big bucks for.

Should we send him a Sidney Crosby instructional video?

SouthernHockeyChick
12-19-2009, 12:57 AM
Or, maybe we should get him about 5 other #1 picks to play with, like Crosby has? Or how about lets just get all his teammates an Evgeni Malkin instructional video and maybe that would help? Or perhaps Cam needs the Marc Andre Fleury video?

Tripp sure was glowing with praise on Staal's play at both ends tonight for this criticism to now crop up.

WTFever. He'll never be good enough until he becomes in a one-man Stanley Cup champion, I suppose, and that comes with his contract. I just think people look sorta silly constantly criticizing him while his points constantly go up and up. Especially when we roll out the crap that his goals come as empty netters or when it doesn't matter. That's just silly, IMO. We sound like Leafs fans. But I know, he's Superman and he's just not playing like it and carrying this under-performing TEAM to the playoffs.......you know, like he did LAST YEAR. I guess he didn't understand he needed to do it EVERY year with no help from the other 22 men we're over-paying for.

Should we send him a Sidney Crosby instructional video?Maybe we should send Ward a Patrick Roy instructional video and Pitkanen a Nicklas Lidstrom instructional video. All coming from the "Completely Unreasonable Expectations" video series.

Staal has 14 points in 11 games since returning from his injury. That's five more points than the next closest teammate during that span (Pitkanen with 9). Isn't that what we're paying him big bucks for? How else exactly is he supposed to "lead"? There are quite a few near-useless highly compensated veterans on this team who allegedly have great leadership qualities yet have done jack **** all season, so I guess it is time to scapegoat a 25-year old for failing to lead the team by scoring 150 points.

SoCalcaniac
12-19-2009, 10:53 AM
Excellent points Kahz & SHC. There just isn't anything else to say on those points-you both said it very well.

I just KNEW I would come in here and read some kinda crazy sh** about The Future Captain and his apparent "lack of leadership". :eyeroll
It's great that I'm right, I love that.

This was an equal opportunity bunch of bull**** last night. The wheels on the "hopeful" bus flipped all straight to hell.

Well thank goodness that JF and MM basically called our hockey team, and yes, the "future captain" was specifically called out, a collective bunch of wimps during the postgame.

Did they really call Staal a wimp? Did Maniscalco then go into his Crosby, Gretzky comparison? Surely to gosh they pointed fingers at others besides #12.

There was seriously PLENTY to go around. They looked exactly like they did over a month ago when this team was beyond pitiful.

I have no clue what team is going to show up tonight, but it will get very ugly in that bldg if they duplicate last night's performance.

guinevere
12-19-2009, 12:26 PM
Put me on the list for agreeing with all as well. The guy was trying to play injured at the beginning of the season. Maybe that might have been a little selfish- who knows- but that is certainly not a hallmark of a wimp. Since he's been back, he really has been performing fairly well given what he has to back him up.

Kat
12-19-2009, 12:40 PM
I agree on Staal. No-one can do it by themselves, and I see sh!tty play all over the place.

My cross to bear is someone in my house for whom CWard can do no right... and nights like last night sure don't help.

I think the real problem here is that the team just plains sucks. Not the individual players, necessarily, but the team. People (here and in the Canes org itself) pick on individual players here and there to make themselves feel better, and/or hope to "fix" the problem...
