Going to be at the beach, but watching on TV (drowning out Trip, hopefully - maybe I'll turn ChuckandtheletterK on, too).
Chip just posted that Tuomo's not at practice. I hope all is well. Maybe he's still on the phone with Jarkko.

No Sergei at practice either. @nhl_canes just said he and Tuomo are not practicing. Must be a maintenance day for them. Everyone else who didn't practice yesterday is back.

I've come to loathe being at NYE games so...I won't be in attendance. I plan on snuggling up with Rosey on the couch and watching. That way, if bad things happen I have cheap entertainment to fall back on. :)

We have taken this as tradition, so we'll be there. Neither one of us has the patience to go out and battle the crowds, and neither one of us likes to get all dressed up anymore. Jeans and jersey watching our favorite sport is the place to be for us now a days

Our family NYE tradition is a stay-at-home movie and game night together, and ordering pizza, so we never go to the Canes game, but we'll pause the movie and check in once in a while ;)

Unfortunately i'll have to be out of home when the puck drops (damned time zone!)

I've only been to a couple of the NYE games. One year, we got kinda tired of the crowd and went to Sawmill Tap Room where we had pickle chips and champagne. =.) The second time, we stayed for the post-party, but we were all "meh" about it -- well, except for when Vampira herself sat down in the seat IMMEDIATELY in front of me while we waited for the NYE puck to drop. *shudders*
I appreciate what they try to do post-game, but I hate how the band is set up in a room that gets too crowded to get into and it gets so packed at the one bar. If they let me be in charge, I'd order a carpet that covered the ice, set the band up there and move the party down to ice level (for those who want to dance or mingle) and first-tier (for those who want to sit and/or mingle), keeping the Snoovie concessions/bars open.
Between mourning my dog and trying to beat down this damn cold, I do not feel up to bars, so a friend and I are watching "The Hangover" and ordering Chinese. We hadn't really taken the game into consideration, so we may end up watching some of it on TV, too.

We go to every game, including the now dull-ish NYE game, so we'll be there. I agree with Kermie. The way they try to set up the NY post game celebration is a little cumbersome. We only attended one post game party and that was just a little much for me, so we've not done it since.
Since our record on NYE stinks, I'm just asking for a WIN.

I'm unlikely for this one. I just offered one kid to host his buddies for the night!?!?! The older one is getting home from soccer in Orlando long enough to change his clothes and then head out of town with his gf - had to throw the little one a bone.
I have GOT to sit down with the schedule, my unused tickets, and my vouchers and figure out what the hell to do with all the tickets we have!
BTW - I used 2 of my vouchers already, but would some of the vouchers be expiring with this game? I recall last year that some only were valid until 12/31. The ones I have left don't seem to have an expiration.
Canesluver
12-30-2009, 02:01 PM
If you don't see an expiration date, then you've already used the ones that expire, because those definitely had an expiry date of 12/31 on them.

The A vouchers expire tomorrow.
I'll be there. Then it's home for smoked salmon, mussels in white wine and garlic and champagne at midnight.

Not going to make this one. My buddy's son and daughter in law are using ours. We used 2 vouchers for extras and they are taking friends.

Us too. Although, we probably won't stay for the after party. Home for better champagne and goodies, I'm sure.

Would have been easy for me...we have his jersey!
I'll be there (with a spanking 'P' parking pass, thanks LTD!!). A friend or two might be coming with me.
We stayed for the post-party last year and had a pretty good time, actually.
Butters here. We sold our tix for this game. I rather watch VT/Tenn in the Chick-fil-a Bowl, plus don't like taking the increased risk with even more knuckleheads on the road then normal.

Oh my WORD. The Rags are playing the Flyers tonight in NY and they're currently losing 4-0. Torts pulled Lundquist, and put in this kid, Chad Johnson, his first NHL GAME. It was 3-0 to start the second, and the first shot, a goal by PHI. Torts looks like he's gonna blow a gasket.
I don't think Henrik can be faulted for the 3 goals, I think it's a message.
Oh- and the Flyers appear to have begun to grasp Peter Laviolette hockey. They're up and down, creating all kinds of chaos and a few 2 on 1's.
Tomorrow night might be very interesting.

Some of y'all are just a bunch of slackers! What else are you going to do on New Years Eve???
I've been sick for two days now and just drove over 500 miles and I couldn't be more fired up for tomorrow night's game! Maybe it's the cold medicine LOL.
My son always enjoys this game because I let him wear his pajamas.
For some reason I'm never bored watching the Canes play the Rangers, maybe its that they have a Staal, and then asswipe Avery, Torts, Lundqvist, Gaborik, Drury...
SoCal, what happened to Valiquette? I thought he was their backup. I figured they'd start Kink Henrik tonight and start their backup against us, who knows now?
SoCalcaniac
12-30-2009, 08:17 PM
King Henrik would have played tomorrow; he always plays, thus the great debate about the Rangers being able to 'hold up' with Hank's workload.
LTD, Valiquette was sent to Hartford, He's in the Torts Doghouse a la' Mr. John Grahame. He's been in Hartford for a couple months now.
Despite the ho-hum nature of the last few years on NYE, we're not party people, so this is the only place I'd be. I watched one Canes home game "at home" once in the last 9 years, and it was too weird for words, lol. But I was ordered not to go to the game, and had no choice.
This matchup is far better IMO than say the Islanders (last year right?) the Thrashers, and who else have we played on NY's? I'll look forward to tomorrow night, plus, (please be reading this board Canes) maybe we'll get a hearty congrats to Nic Wallin for his 500th game with the Canes, and congrats to all of the Olympic selections.

And the entire drive to Pittsburgh Saturday and back today was 100% clear skies and dry roads. And it snowed the two days before and is supposed to snow again tomorrow. Whew.

Count me as a no show. I sold my tickets to the guy who sits in front of me. He has some out of town guests and wanted seats near his. The fact that the Canes have a terrible NYE record didn't have much affect on my decision. I'm just a nice guy. :) So now I guess Mrs DS and I will go out for dinner then come home and see what kind of trouble we can get into. I'll make midnight but then will turn in shortly after because I hope to go paddling with the CCC Ice Breakers NYD paddle. But that's only if the new Red Kokatat Tropos Helix Drytop I got for my Birthday comes in.
ETA: This is the 1st NYE home game I've missed since we got season tickets in 2000.

So they'll be loaded for polar bear tomorrow night. Great. Like they needed the help.
FYI, we won on NYE last year (vs Atlanta).
Islanders best us in 07, Flyers beat us in 06, and we beat Montreal in 05.
Thanks for saving me the lookup, A. I thought we had won last year.

Samehere.
We just aren't the go downtown people like our other non-married friends. Then the ones who are married all have kids and do family things (boards games, movies, etc). It is NYE, so we figure we should do something. So for the last couple years its been out to dinner (tomorrow will be Outback) then off to the game. We don't stay for the after stuff, so we'll watch the apple drop then battle out the video games until I turn into a pumpkin and go to bed.
So JR if you are reading, you better keep requesting NYE, otherwise, I won't know what to do with myself

Rangers should come out strong after last night's debacle. Torts was talking about how it not a good idea to blow his stack after every 5 games (would like to have known his blood pressure reading as he stated that).
At home, in a warm house with plenty of cold beer and will probably be watching the recorded USA vs Canada game as the apple, acorn, puck, turd, whatever drops.
Happy New Year to all Caniacs!

Here's an FAQ about the post-game festivities tonight:
http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=511805
Sounds like they've sorta heard some of the usual complaints and have at least opened up more of the arena for the party than usual.
Thanks A! Unless this is some sort of huge blowout and we bail early, we will likely stay through at least some of the festivities.
We can't really drink anyhow, as tomorrow is Christmas celebration with the in-law side of the family, and hangovers only make that sort of thing unbearable.
Here's to hoping we ruin the Rangers fans' NYE for a change...

That 2nd intermission Year in review was GODAWFUL with that herky jerky old home movie bulls-hit. It would have been nice to actually see the highlights from the playoffs, but instead I was practically nauseas. Its like they overuse their special effects toys like when you first play with photoediting and overprocess.
Just show the f-ing clips.

Too much Ranger pressure in our end despite their incompetent ability to score. Need to turn the tables in the 3rd.
How 'bout someone shadowing #10 since he's the only player on their team that knows where the friggin' goal is.

We're home. Happy New Year Caniacs
Highlight of the night was the Forslund Focus on the Olympians. Oh, and Marc Staal doing everything to try and stop his big brother.
Lowlight: Listening to how sad Cam sounded in the post game.
Another "opportunity" and zero result. to go from a huge win in WSH to 17 shots on goal and Henrik Lundquist not having to really extend himself, disappointing.
We could complain about the officials, but really- what's the point?
We just seemed really blah out there. I just don't get this team.
We had alot of already drunk people arrive to the game by warm ups. I hope everyone makes it home safely.
Here's to 2010 being "better".

31 shot attempts that never made it to the net (15 blocked and 16 missed nets). I think the Rangers played a fantastic game defensively. We weren't good enough offensively.
We weren't great but we weren't awful, either. And that's a huge improvement from several games earlier in the season. I'm OK with that.
Happy New Year!! Like, in just a second, lol.
Boring. Cam played fairly well, at least.
We stayed for a few minutes of the post-game stuff, and it seemed that they really did do a better job of spreading the people out this year. However, we just weren't in the mood so headed home around 11.

It wasn't a great game, but not a horrific game, either. Kinda of dull, mostly.
I loved the sign the little girl was holding who got to play the Linda Craft/chooler game. Did anybody get a picture of it?
For those not there-- top lines: I owe it all to Rod Brind'Amour
And then under that it said: From heart patient to hockey player
And there were a couple photos under that, that I couldn't quite make out, but I think one was of her in a hospital bed, and the other was her on-the-ice playing hockey.
Very touching.
HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYBODY!!!

Game wasn't great, but i've seen alot worse from these guys, so whatever. Came home and watched the WJC Canada vs US, now that was an exciting game. A shame it came down to a skills comp and US lost. I hate shootouts.
Cam looked real good, so that's a positive. I sure hope we give him a better offense/defense next year.
