Wow.... that's the first time I've typed '10..... weird to think it's 2010..... That just looks freaky.....
Anyways...

Walker and Samsonov out for this game with UBI. Two forwards from Albany will be called up, with Tlusty being one possibility.

I'm wondering if Chip was just throwing Tlusty out there as an "educated guess" since he was a call up last go round. Tlusty just got back into the lineup after his Visa issues, I'm not sure how conditioned he is.
I want to see #11, Boychuk called up. He's been on a roll of late, time to see what the other piece of our future looks like now that he's had half a season in Albany.

I hate afternoon games. This one is likely gonna have to get recorded then watched at night. Hope I remember to turn off my tweets so I don't get no spoilers.
It'll be exciting to see Boychuk and Tlusty.

Yay for Tlusty!!! I can't wait to see him play. He's so exciting! Let's start 2010 better than 2009 ended!

Anyone here? I'm getting pretty pumped about Boychuk being in the lineup today. Jiri too.

I think we should slap Tlusty, Boychuk and Sutter on a line and see what happens.
Jesus, didn't realize the ref interfered with Gleason on that Gaborik chance.

Hmmm... kind of quiet here today. Didn't think we looked all that terrible in the first period, but I do think we look out of synch especially a man up. At least we threw some pucks at the net. Thought Ruuty's shot was going in but hit the post on a grade A chance. Kind of thing that always seems to come back to haunt you. Giving the Rangers far too many quality chances. I think we're lucky it's scoreless.
i'm here... stayed up too late playing Christmas present Wii and, well, indulged a bit too much in adult beverages. Basically had my NYE a day late.
So far, ho hum. Maybe it'll pick up in the 2nd, in the right direction of course. ;)

I wish we could get at least a little bit of pressure going in the offensive end. The good news is, Rangers fans are probably saying the same thing.

Ugh. Do we need to start making guys do push-ups for high-sticks? WTH?
And guys sure seem to be bleeding a lot lately, lol.
Too bad Sutter couldn't get his stick on that one.

YEAH! Great win and great way to play desperate. I liked everything I saw about Boychuk, and I sure liked Tlusty, however, it would have been nice to see both of them playing more. Boychuk was all over the ice today.
What a play by #13. He's so awesome.
How many times did Forslund say "grind a cycle"??? I think it makes me want to go to sleep. We've got to find ways to bring some offense. This grinding nonsense, is horrible.
That was classic Torts at the end. His head explode and he was cussing up a storm. I'm watching the MSG+ postgame show and waiting for the Torts post game. it should be epic.
Erik Christensen just said to a reporter "we played a team in the bottom of the standings in the league - we should have won the game". Oh really Christensen? Oooh- gotta go. Torts' press conference is comin' up..... :-

I LOVED watching Torts and I too rewound 5 times. I loved though, that you could see him dropping an Fbomb even on the quick shot right after the goal. LOVE YA TORTS!
What a productive afternoon - I took EVERYTHING out of my closet, cleaned, purged, organized and put everything back in. Wonderful way to "watch" a boring game. And I actually took my bankers box of 2006 newpapers and.....put them in the recycling! But I couldn't bring myself to toss the rally towels circa 2002, 2006, 2009. I think there are still mucho nacho stains on the 2002 towels.

Erik Christensen just said to a reporter "we played a team in the bottom of the standings in the league - we should have won the game".
Well, if a guy drafted 60-something in '02, who was just picked up on waivers a month ago and didn't register a point until New Year's eve says they should have won, it must be true.
Before the holidays, his coach said in Newsday that if the Rags try to add a defender, that Christensen would be the most likely to go. "I don't see him grabbing hold of that position," Tortorella said. Well, if the coach says so, then it must be true, eh Erik?

Just finished watching the game. I'm proud of myself from staying away from the computer and the phone to see any updates. What a nice surprise to see the Wizard get it done in OT. He deserved it.
And I too must have watched Torts reaction 4-5 times. Classic Torts.
Great way to start 2010 :D
And we all so it coming, but the ditz is now leading the league in TOI per game (grabbed from HF)

An afternoon win. I'd like to know (well maybe I really wouldn't) our afternoon record for the last few years. I know I normally dread 'em. Wish Tlusty would have played more, but after hearing what line he was on prior to the game I didn't expect much. Their superstar ran circles around our (cough) superstar again but the pipes & crossbars kept us in it.
Boychuk was running around like a madman swinging his stick at everything that looked like a puck coming within eyesight of him. Appreciate the effort but he looks a quite bit away from the NHL to me.
Good to see the Cullen/Whitney magic reappear.

Thank goodness for the heavy metal. In a season that has seen every break go against us, it was nice to see us have some shots hit the posts behind Cam.
Only 7 pts. out of 29th.

We're UNDEFEATED in this decade!
Actually, truth be told, we are in the same decade. Next year starts the new decade. If you don't believe me, count to ten and tell me what the last number you say is.:) But we are undefeated this year.

Technically, Doug-- you're right..... but nobody really pays any attention to that!

I'm just glad we can start saying "twenty-ten." I got tired of having to say "two thousand...."
So... not only are we undefeated in the new decade, we're also undefeated when leading after 2 periods in the new decade!!

Well regardless, we're undefeated this YEAR which is saying something, although not much. And I'm cool, I call it Two Kay Ten.
Anyhoo, I would be remiss in my bandwagon responsibilities if I didn't share this little news nugget. Granted it's the NY Post (http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/rangers/rangers_del_zotto_enjoys_the_hard_gDUMhfbPKZikuCNE sLfIOM), but still, it's a direct quote. (thanks to HF Boards for the find)
BWAHAHAHAHA
So if John Madden the announcer (not John Madden the checking center) had been calling yesterday's Rangers-Hurricanes match at the Garden, this is likely how he'd have described the game's second shift:
"And there's Michael Del Zotto, carrying the puck up the right wing boards, now here comes Tuomo Ruutu...and...BOOM!"
And BOOM indeed, as the precocious 19-year-old freshman defenseman went down hard in the neutral zone after being blasted straight up by the Carolina winger 34 seconds into the Rangers' 2-1 overtime defeat.
"That's the hardest I've been hit in the NHL," said Del Zotto, whose offensive ability has overshadowed the edge with which he plays. "But I knew that I was going to get a chance to get it back."
:D
Oh, and if you click the link and read down further you can see some amusing quotes from Torts about not letting players take limos (WTF?) to game day skates at Long Island and Jersey anymore.

Well, it's possible that some of the players could live closer to the Rock or the Mausoleum than they do to the Garden. Or they meet at the practice rink in Rye. And the Rags practice rink is a 45 minute drive from the Garden. So Torts wants the team together the whole time, like a normal road trip.

I think it is very difficult to determine if a player is NHL ready based on one game, playing with guys he hasn't practiced with and having to get used to the speed of the game. I'd like to wait to make that decision until Boychuk has played 6 or 7 games in a row and has gotten comfortable with his linemates, etc. Dwyer and Sutter both looked a little out of sorts when they first came up, but look at them now - a comfort level with the speed of the game and their linemates has helped them trememdously. Especially Sutter - once he started getting decent minutes (like 15 a game), after a couple of games, you could really see him settle in. I think the same would probably happen with Boychuk.
Just MHO.

I think a thing that factors in on that is a kid like Boychuk knows he is up for a game and is trying too hard to make an impression. None of them want to go back to Albany.
Maybe Michael Leighton was trying too hard when he got a chance to be on the ice here in Carolina.

I agree SD. I didn't watch the game closely (was doing de-clutter task #1 of 2010 - my closet) but I did notice some of what was described.
A few weeks ago, I thought JF was saying that Boychuk was struggling a bit in Albany. I'm barely following the Canes so I have no clue what's up with the Rats recently, but if Dwyer deserves to be here over someone else, I'm glad they are functioning in some sort of meritocracy. Boychuk will now be harmed by staying in Albany until needed/deserved imo.
