Chip's reporting that Scotty's going to have surgery. Will "probably be out a month." :(

Doesn't indicate what the surgery is for....

This is a real mystery. No scuttlebutt at all about what's ailing him.
Bummer for Scotty. :(

Since it's mentioned he rec'd an "Upper Buddy Injury", I'm guessing shoulder....

I'm just a little shocked to see J.R.'s comment that we could crawl back into the fight with a good January.
I wanna party with that dude. He's smoking some goooooood sh!t.

My gut says its been bothering him all year and he took a hit in the Rangers game and it got worse (or that's just the excuse). There is no way a healthy Walker is playing on the 4th line the way he has been playing.
It feels like his career is rapidly approaching the end. I'd love to see him turn it around, but the last 2-3 years have been fully of injuries for an undersized guy whose game is about physical play.

huh..and I was just commenting that I thought that Walker looked like he'd had really good speed in the last 4 games too.

And another one, and another one, another one bites the dust.
I'm ready for next season. JR can keep smoking his crack...I'm not gonna give in.

Do you have a link to this comment (I couldn't find anything)? I was going to pontificate on this (in another, more appropriate thread) but could find anything on the News & Observer website or Carolina Hurricanes website, although I didn't look to hard and comments like these are often buried in other articles.
To be fair, it we won all of our January games, and everyone else played .470 hockey for January (.500 against everyone else and losses to us), we would be tied with NYR for 8th place in the East with 55 points. If we win only 10 out of those 13 January games, we would be 14th in the East with 49 points. Take that with a grain of salt since those were some pretty quick calculations.

33-8 gets us to 94 points!

and we do it without a player that we trade in the next couple weeks to a team that thinks they're in contention, for their #1 draft pick, only to see their team slide uncontrollably to the bottom of the league, and thus we make the playoffs AND get the #1 overall pick in the draft.... hey, as long as we're dreamin' here.... :D

So, we could go 30-8-3 and end up with 92 points (which *might* make it).
We'd have to win 30 of the final 41 games.....we won 11 of the first 41.
AND, we'd only be able to lose 8 of the final 41 in regulation....we lost 23 of the first 41 in regulation.
Smoke 'em if you got 'em, I guess.:smoke:

ah. I read that pre-update (not from your post but directly from the N&O website).

yep. Our *magic* number is 9 more losses and 93 points is our maximum. We can still be "eliminated" from playoff contention this month if we work hard enough. 4-9-0 anyone?
numbers. I love numbers.....

The Canes just sent out a tweet that Walker is having surgery tomorrow and is out 4-6 weeks. Did I miss what exactly what type of surgery is being performed? It's just so odd that it's all hush hush. I'm confused.

Yeah, this is really strange. All they're saying is upper body. Glad to see I'm not the only one in the dark.

I mentioned this in the SWTC thread, but he was at the event tonight and participated in all the sessions including skating with his group (I wasn't in his skate group but I did spot him on the ice). He seemed to be in really good spirits.

Maybe it's just bone spurs in his elbow or something. It can't be bad if he was in that good of spirits.

See the first post in this thread that canesluver started, but she's already answered you.
All a hot streak will do now is to rob us of a chance at the 1st draft choice. It would be a shame to see this season wasted after all the hard work the boys have put in.

@nhl_canes and Chip just tweeted that Scott had shoulder surgery this morning. Now why couldn't they just tell us that at the beginning? Why must there be so much secrecy?

He aggravated it trying to steal Hoppity last night.
Seriously, not sure why they couldn't tell us earlier that it was his shoulder. Hope all went well.

I saw him today and he had his arm in a sling. Someone asked him how it was feeling and he said it was really good, except when people walk by not paying attention and "whap" it.

The ch.com message board has created a thread where folks can post get-well wishes which will be printed and delivered to him.
http://fans.hurricanes.nhl.com/topic/16354
Thanks LTD, you're quick.
Like she said, feel free to add to his get well thread, we'd like to get this delivered before the end of the month so spread the word to any fans you think would like to contribute.
Joe Corvo's thread was delivered right after the New Year's game and much appreciated :)
