any word on if Alberts will be suspended or anything for his hit on Sullivan? Good news is that Sullivan appears to be okay...missing Saturday's game but looks like he's alright, which is good.

I'm excited to see Samson and Tlusty in person.
I'm also interested to see how Ruuty will react to Darcy Tucker because you know Darcy's going to try to get in his head. I would if I were him.
Wonder if they have Bryan Rodney waiting in the wings in case Alberts does get suspended. Based on what I've heard and read it's a toss-up as to whether or not he'll serve any extra time. The hit was bad but made worse because of the victim and his history. I suspect the NHL will try to make a decision as early as they can today to give us time to get someone else in the lineup tonight.
The guys arrived home late last night (close to 1:30 am) and I noticed they have the late slot today for pregame skate, not sure if my schedule will permit (this two-hour school delay is throwing me off schedule) but I'd like to get over there to see Samson since I'm guessing he's out of here before Sunday's game if Staaly is back.

Plus this year has turned into a big social event for me, so looking forward to seeing/talking with the mates again since I haven't seen them since NYE
And its Friday. And I'm actually awake this morning, which is very unusual. And 2 hours of my day will be wasted at lunch with a client whose in from Chicago.
I'm not expecting much with all the Rats in the line up, but if we can just hang with the Avs, I'll be happy.

The Avs will at least be fun to watch in person instead of just on Center Ice. Looking forward to seeing Matt Duschene, the #2 overall from last draft and the December Rookie of the Month. He's going to be a great player.
This is one of those trap games (you know, every other game the Canes play these days) and now as we're firmly entrenched in the fact that we're really going nowhere, I'm starting to feel like the winter of 02-03. We could go into a spiral (but we kinda already did that see: Oct/Nov) or we could have all these plucky kids from Albany start to do some things--- or like I said, we could blow chunks. Thus the trap game. ;) They might surprise us, and it could be an inspired performance. I'll be happy just to see Tlusty and Samson here at home.
I'm kinda like KF-making games into the social hour..... we have a group of seatmates that are really fun. Mr Socal (especially so) and I are not much for talking during games, in fact for hubby, it's blasphemous. But this year, my neighbor, who I met at the Jimmy V and we've become pretty good buds, seem to find dissecting the team a source of comfort. She wrings her hands more than me about our "situation" and I make her laugh and tell her to snap out of it; and every so often she'll try to yank the headphones off hub's ears and say "what's Chuck saying?".
I'm trying to not let these games get to me;( I can hear laughter so stop) I'm just going to go and finish out the season, these games have been paid for, I don't have much of a choice, so instead of focusing on Aaron Ward, I'm attempting another tack- going to take a long hard look at the young kids and look forward to next season.
I don't know if Alberts gets suspended. He might. Usually these disciplinary hearings happen with the league around 9 or 10am the next day- so maybe we'll hear something in the next little bit.

The way ChuckandtheletterK was talking last night between periods, it sounds like Staal might not be back until next week, probably the Toronto game.
Is it me, or does Samson look remarkably like Sutter w/his helmet on? That was my first thought when I looked at the twitpics posted last night from @nhl_canes. He played well last night, from what I could hear, as did Dwyer. Too bad his shot hit the post.
Tonight's another night. The Avs are great, but we've been known to sneak up and play better against great teams.
Oh, and the Wolfpack Women throttled Maryland last night. It was AWESOME.

SC06 and I have come up with something in an attempt to humor us at games. When walking around before the game or during intermissions, when we see someone in a jersey other then the Canes or the team we are playing, we go, "Sweet the (insert team name) are playing tonight" or "Didn't know the (insert team name) were playing here tonight" or "F*c* the (insert team name) are playing here tonight, I hate their douchebag fans."
Dumb, I know, but hey, have to find some sort of entertainment when you are first at being last in the NHL.

For those not on twitter, practice today was optional and a lot of the regulars took the morning off. Chad came out before the rest of the team and skated awhile during some of the initial drills and went in early. Joe Corvo was out for the full skate and even stayed late after most everyone else had gone in. His movement looked really good but he was pretty winded.
It was sparse but here's who I remember there out of the rest: Alberts (guessing no suspension since they would have ruled by now?), Sergei, Jussi, Tuomo, Stephane, Brandon, Dwyer, Carson, Tlusty, Boychuk, Samson and Manny (SoCal did I miss anyone?). They mainly did some skating and passing drills and then shootaround, no real lines since so many were off the ice.
That Jiri is one smily fellow, either he's got a sunny disposition in general or he's really happy to be here.
Cam gets the nod again.
ETA: Just got the tweet from Chip no additional action against Alberts.

Yep LTD, that about covers it. I noticed Whitney and Wallin at the bench shooting pucks from behind the door just looking around to see what was up.
It was nice to see Chad & Joe out there. Joe looked pretty good, but you can tell he has to now get into game condition.
I'm hoping for a good game. The good news is that there was a ton of energy on the ice with all the young guys out there, so we can hope for a little pop in the line up.
I agree on Tlusty- he's a smiley dude. He reminds me of Joe Vasicek-- always smiling. (that's the only thing about Tlusty that reminds me of Big Joe)

Actually, I have the opposite feeling. I am excited to see the 'kids' here and the energy they bring. Hope Mo gets Samson off the 4th line (but this is Mo we are speaking of here) - would like to see him get some time with Sutter and/of Tlusty. Same for Boychuk - Boychuk in my opinion isn't a player for a checking line, but yup - that's right where he is on the 3rd line.
Oh well, I'll enjoy the Rats and know that our future does look pretty good.

I'm still trying to figure out why Sutter and Boychuk aren't together. Weren't they linemates in the WJC together. And they were linemates in Albany, not to mention BFF off the ice. I've heard a certain SoCal refer to them as having a bromance like the two Eric(K)s. So I ask, why in the hell are they NOT on a line together.
IDK, I think those 2 together would be tons of fun to watch.
We aren't going anywhere up in the standings. Only way we do that is b/c Columbus and Edmonton (who Ek says is getting Taylor Hall btw) suck as bad as we do, not b/c we actually got good.
I want to see what Boychuk and Samson can do with a bigger role. They are the future and should get to show us what they got. Guess I should be glad that Mo finally is keeping Sutter in an active role and letting us see what Tlusty has in a top 6 role. Then again, I wonder if Mo didn't know Tlusty in Toronto if he wouldn't be stuck on the 3rd or 4th with the other kids and Brind'Amour moved up.

I really think they do have a synergy with each other. I agree heartily that we should see what they can do up here together.
They have played with each other for Canada (not much in the WJC's but they did play together in that Superseries in Russia) and they played in that tourney together in the preseason up in Detroit; There's a natural chemistry, and yeah, a definite bromance there since they're best friends; but bigger than that, I'd personally like to see what they can actually do. Same with Tlusty and Samson- they both have some kind of talent. We need to know how much of it translates HERE. But they need to play in the top 6.
I know I'll sound like the broken record, but with this Coach, it seems there is only so much rope given to the younger players. He's not daring enough, imo. Put the daggone kids together and let them go. If they screw up, you reign them in.

After seeing the graphic showing Maurice's career total of 388 wins, I have an additional point of interest for the season (other than which draft pick we'll get, and loving the unbelievable effort Cullen and Whitney and other guys are showing, watching Sutter grow, etc.) -- will he get to 400 wins this year? 12 more... Hm... that seems about right for an over/under call.

AWard was cracking me up in the 1st when all that was going. He would just stand or skate around with that damn mouth guard hanging out of his mouth chewing on it. When all those scrums were going on he was acting like some big tough guy.

I think Karma has nothing to do with this. Karma my eye. That's a bunch of bull****. If one calls and is sincere about an injury that he inflicts, that should be it. But of course it wasn't.
I could swear he broke his hand. The way he left and shook his hand like he did, I was horrified. I'll be upset if he doesn't play for Finland.
I thought the effort was fantastic. I thought these guys played gutsy. It's all you can ask for. I think Boychuk can play some up here but will be served to go back down to Albany and play alot. He has moments of where you see why he's a high pick, but he's not put it all together yet. I love what I see from Samson.
Oh, and Duschene, and I don't really care how it is spelled, was invisible tonight.
Tim Gleason please do not fight. You scare the hell out of me. He was ready to kill someone tonight, and he was cussing Chris Stewart out and I couldn't stop laughing because you can see he was hot.
You can blame Chuck Kaiton for ruining Cam's shut out. Hub leaned over around 4 min mark and says "Chuck said, I'm not superstitious, Cam is on his way to a shut out". I think he does that mess to freak people out. Our neighbor said "I'm going up stairs and kick Chuck's butt".

Yes and yes.
And on to a brighter topic from Forslund, he also mentioned that Corvo and LaRose are going to be traveling on the road trip next week which is good news, especially for Corvo who seems to be progressing much faster than expected. Cole is still a ways off it sounds.
And I don't know if anyone heard Forslund during his 5:45 call to 99.9, but he was on a tear. They were talking about Bob Gorman's hit/stitches suffered last night, and apparently Pete Friesen had a pretty spirited speech afterwards about Bob's grit and determination in staying in the game despite the injury. Well then Forslund launched into this whole discussion about how Pete Friesen is the Richard Simmons of hockey, even joking about him coming in before training camp in a red tank top and shiny shorts with a copy of "Sweatin' to the Oldies". I came close to peeing my pants several times.

Snoozefest tonight other than the fights, both goals were 100% Budaj failures, but there was one bright spot...I saw my new favorite fan in the concourse, who had used white tape to cover the nameplate of his "TANABE" jersey to say "T HALL".

If you risk a man's livelihood through foolish physicality and he wants you to answer for it in a physical manner, you owe him that much. I was proud of Ruutu for answering for his foolishness. If he did indeed break his hand, I wonder if taking his helmet off ahead of the fight to get rid of the visor would've encouraged Tucker to do the same and prevented the injury.

Snoozefest? Maybe I'm just looking for the positives in a season where positives have been few and far between, but IMHO it was the most exciting game I've seen in the RBC Center this season - and I've been there for all of them. It was thoroughly entertaining with the added advantage of being a winner which at this point is as much as I can want.

there was little to no offense from either team for the last 38 minutes of the game, all the chippy stuff went away, and it was mostly poor defensive/neutral zone play on both ends of the ice. I was bored.

And I appreciated hearing Ray's comments about Ruuty's fight.
“It’s kind of a code of ethics. When you hit a guy the way he did and knock him out, you have to kind of answer it,” Whitney said. “He was a man about it and lined up with him. He did what was required in the game of hockey, and unfortunately, he hurt himself doing it. But as his teammates, you respect him even more for standing up and doing what was needed.”

I had a friend at the game who is an extremely casual fan and she had an absolute blast.
I just figure I already paid for them, we're going nowhere, if I can't enjoy a win I don't see the point. So, I did.

And let's remenber how many experienced players were missing from the F lines:
Staal
Cole
Ruutu
Larose
Samsonov
Brind'amour ;)
How many practices have all the newbies even been too.
My oldest went with his gf and texted me "all these crazy numbers...I know none of these people"
Funniest part of the broadcast was how they interspersed footage of these 3 little boys tussling in the stands with the footage of the fights on the ice. We LOL'd everytime they showed them going to breaks - probably 5 or younger and all wearing jerseys.

Matt and Cam also got honorable mentions on Yahoo!, plus Sacco got a dishonerable for their paltry 0for6 on the powerplay.
Okay, I'd read hand for Ruu, but he said it wasn't? That's good news, hopefully. I still say shoulder or neck because he was being pulled down on the ice while he was trying to get up. He knew the fight was over and that a-hole wouldn't let it go.

Two more additional bits of entertainment for me happened in the arena last night, and they had nothing to do with the game itself:
1 - If you were in the bathroom during the 2nd Intermission and missed the mighty-might shoot-out, we got such a kick out of a couple of the kid's pre-planned (obviously) goal celebrations. I LMAO'd at this little kid who wasn't a great skater, but after he scored he headed over to the NW corner so he could body-slam the glass with his arms up-in-the-air. He was such a slow skater that it took forever for him to get over there!
2- Same intermission -- The video of Skate w/the Canes. It's probably up on their website, by now (haven't checked). Y'all need to watch it, if you missed it. They had fans recreating goal celebrations by the guys, as well as asking the players about their thoughts behind their "moves." They had Mean Gene along w/Walker recreate his GWG of the 2nd round in Boston, and again... I LMAO'd!! There was also a little chat w/a young woman who drove down from somewhere in Quebec, who with her velvety Quebecois accent explained that she was a diehard Caniac (she pronouced it Can-iack [like a can of tuna]) and had been looking forward to the event for a long time. Nice.
^ I agree. The intermissions were almost more fun than the game! It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a game as much as I enjoyed last night's.

i think it's called karma for a dumb ass hit.
You're right. It was good ole karma that turned around and bit that POS Tucker in his sorry a$$ in Colorado for all of the questionable hits he's dished out over the years. And good ole karma made sure he lost that fight last night also. :D
I love karma sometimes....:smoke:

The kid named Alex in the shoot out-- who rode his stick like a pony after scoring-- was reportedly the son of our own #7 ;)

On the other hand, maybe if Ruutu has to miss the Olympics, who knows, maybe Jussi's the next to call? Doors open, doors close. Ruutu does have a lot of bangs and bruises to heal up.

Ya think Nicky will be seeing a lot of that in practice for the rest of the season?
