So.... what's the odds of them winning this one? I mean..... after each win, how many times have we heard, "building block"..... "stepping stone,".... blah, blah, blah..... when the 'Canes win, their path to get there is kind of like a blind mouse trying to get out of a maze that looks like this:

It's Military Appreciation Day (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=512847)! Last year's military rock & roll band was very good (IMO), and I always love to look at the equipment they bring-out. As the wife of a retired soldier, I love that they do this. And.... since we're not playing any of the Original Six teams, maybe the casual fans these games bring-in won't out-vocal us when Ottawa scores!!
Fox Sports is not carrying this game.

Wow. #2 in the thread!! :nanner:
Anyway... hope this will bring out a good crowd but I am not looking forward to wathcing the Ottawa feed but what do you do?
No tweets yet this morning on Ruutu (at least that I've seen)... the Canes site lists this mornings RBC practice as TBA. I'll be running errands at Costco this morning so hopefully I won't get one of those tweets that results in me saying 'OH DAMN' in the middle of the store which results in people looking at me weird.
Ah, but I digress. Here's to hoping the boys keep up the momentum. WHOO WHOO WHOO!!

I'll admit that I told my Cole that I had good news and bad news.. the good news was that they won last night and the bad news was we'll get a loss when we're there tomorrow more than likely. oh well, he'll love the military stuff either way.

Practice today is actually over at the RecZone at noon because State's in the RBCC today. Tomorrow's pre-game skate is TBA and I suspect we'll see a number of folks out of either session with the three games in four days.
I suspect we'll hear something shortly on a call-up to replace Ruuty. I'm on my way out for errands too, and I'm fully expecting to say "OH DAMN" when I get the tweet.

I almost expected the practice to be cancelled today with 3 games in 4 days and with how physical the Avalanch game was.
Question for me, will there be a Manny Legace sighting? I don't mean opening the bench door either.

All three Fins sat out of practice today, along with AWard(not that he matters). Kinda worried/curious about the 3 Fins. Glad that Cole, Corvo and Samsonov were practicing, despite the yellow jersey.
And congrats to Peters for getting added to the Canadian team for the AHL all-star game!
I'll be at the game tomorrow, and hopefully so will my niece and her boyfriend. Every game they've been to together, we've won. :D
Chip & @nhl_canes just tweeted that Mo says Ruu will miss a few weeks. Still nothing on what the hell it is.
ETA: And right after I hit send, another tweet comes in that says Staal may be back tomororw. If not, another call up from Albany.

Per twitter, Chip and ch.com are reporting Maurice as quoting "couple of weeks".
Also may not need a call-up if Staal is back, but that's not certain yet.

To me, it seemed that every time AWard got a good hit in, he'd turn the puck over not long afterwards. He did that Thursday, too. He's playing with more intensity, but also a bit more sloppy.

Cam bailed the Canes out of a lot of poor d-zone plays last night and the Avs' big guns couldn't capitalize; I'm not sure Spezza & co. will be so inept.

I thought Pitkanen had a decent first, then he seemed non-into the game after that. I chalked it up to him being worried if he's heading to Vancouver as the only Finn.
Don't care for afternoon games, but atleast its not a 1pm. Ottawa's 1st line is on the injured list, so maybe the score will be close ;)

He needn't have bothered....there will have to be at least 19 other Finns.

You're a very silly man, and i'm not going to interview you. Of course Legace will be right there opening the bench door - Mo has a goalie he trusts again, so he'll run that goalie into the ground thank you very much. Legace won't get another start until that goalie is fully run into the ground.

I don't think anyone will need to sit from Friday night's roster. They didn't call anyone up to replace Ruuty because they were waiting to see if Staal would be back. And according to Branecky's blog (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=513013) none of the other injured players (Cole, Chad, Sergei) was expected back today.

CONGRATS to Brett Carson for his 1st NHL Goal :nanner:
Was a nice one too.
Loved TK's goal too. But twas a beauty of a pass by Sutter.

Love him to pieces.
I know it's going to be said he's a pro he should be out there with his team, but I'm gonna say, good on Eric Staal for returning to his mates, after a horrific last several days, and play the way he did and get rewarded with a goal. Hub said Chuck mentioned on the headphones that #12 left Thunder Bay last night, took an "early" flight from TO to CLT and then arrived in Raleigh "early" this morning; then we heard him talking in the locker room in the post game and he said he left last night on the last flight out of TB, took a 4:30AM out of TO to Charlotte, and got here this morning. I'm sure it was therapeutic to not have the "think" much and just play, but surely to gosh it was difficult at best.
I was so not pleased with that first period, ESPECIALLY with a very decent crowd in the bldg, and our military salute going on. SO many folks who may have just come to their first game, or treating the family to a game and they came out like that. The only thing that made me happy was Cam's play. That kid just finds a way to make things seem brighter and he really played his heart out that first period.
Bright spots for me: My crush TommyK & Brandon Sutter's brilliance and tenacity; Brett Carson's first NHL goal; Matt Cullen's 100th Assist as a Cane, and Ray Whitney just being on our freakin' team. We had a few marines and army soldiers in the rows in front of us, and one of them turned to hub after the Captain's goal: "this is a great way to just have some fun and not think about being at the base" and the way he said it you could tell he was just having the best time. That's what makes going to games FUN.
I need someone to sort out that whole Alberts over aggressiveness. His issues are becoming glaring again. I believe Boychuk will get returned to Albany. For some reason, he's having a heck of a time and I think it might just be best for him to play that full season in Albany. He has moments, but then there are other moments that aren't so hot. Nothing horrid, it's just one of those developmental things. #12 and #30 played a year in the minors. It was against their will, not in the game plan, but they played; it won't hurt #11.
I think at several points in the game, I wanted to go down to the ice and slug Chris Neil. I've forgotten what a bully and a jackass he can be.
This is a good way to end the weekend :-

Me too! Wow, his glove was GOLD tonight. There was one shot I swore was coming up into the net, but I never saw it. It was in Cam's glove! And Carson! He was awesome. That line was so brilliant. Sutter's pass was on the money to Tom K. And Rod has his swing back. That shot was quite snappy. Yay for the Canes being almost back to normal! (Missed Ruu, though. :()

Watched the Senator's feed tonight, and they said the same thing, adding that he hasn't seen the ice in 4 days and comes in to play really well and score a pretty goal. They made Staal the #1 star (#2-Cam, #3 Carson [I think]), offering up the above in addition to condolences to Eric and his family when they listed the 3 stars. They ran a nice, respectful broadcast.
(However, per normal, they didn't have crap to say about me, and that's getting pretty friggin' old.)

Well, you might cringe when they start talking about our sloppy play, but then the video shows a couple of our defensemen tripping over each other, and you can only sit there and agree. Yeah for DG! It really was good to see her. They got her on the video board & she was down at warm ups and when the guys came out she was jumping up and down waving and blowing kisses to each guy that skated by.
I've not watched the OTT broadcast yet, but did see clips on NHL Network; Dean Brown the Sens play by play guy, called Rod, "Rod the Bod". I don't think I've heard that term used about him for a few years. Although there were some complimentary comments about the team sprinkled in the snippets they played. I've grown weary of the snarky comments about the SE Division or maybe I just expect them now.

Not that it's any of my business, but I've been wondering about something for a while now about Brindy's game. In the "In My Own Words" program, he talks briefly about his bout of poor play during his divorce. Could he be going through some personal issues that are similarly impacting his play now? Or is the general belief that his age and injuries are catching up to him?

No scam. :) I won one of the certificates the last game before Christmas. Actually I found the certificate as soon as I got to my seat before the game. They are very easy to see. Anyway, I went and picked up my prize after Christmas. They said they have three prizes - the pearl lariat necklace (that's what I won), pearl earrings, and a key chain. I was very disappointed that they don't give out the Canes charm bracelets any more because that's what I really wanted. They have all the prizes already wrapped in a "Bailey Box" and they just hand you one out of a basket so you don't get to pick which item you get but yeah it's legitimate.

Whenever we have these games that are discounts or specials we always seem to get a lot of newbs in the building. Don't get me wrong, I am all for getting people in the building and growing the fan base, but if I have to hear the game explained from the row behind me, and explained wrong at that, my head may explode.
It has been interesting and even entertaining at times. One night we had a lady making sounds that could be interpreted as an "o" every time somebody touched the puck and last night I heard the puck referred to as the ball all night and also heard some crazy rules on what is off-sides. Last night I also got a refresher on all the players ages, how much they make and where they are from. Butters used to keep earplugs with him at the State football games and I think I may have to start keeping a pair in my purse.

Looking back it as an entertaining night.
1. Anthem was FANTASTIC.
2. Lousy 1st, reminded me of the 3rd on Friday.
3. Second was better.
4. Third was great...so happy we were attacking.
Cam is really on his game, but the defense is also making less glaring mistakes. There was one save in the third where traffic was all around Cam and he gloved a high slapshot. From the other end of the ice, all I could see was his glove coming out of nowhere.
If Boychuk stays up, I think they need to try him with Sutter to get him playing with someone he is comfortable with. Otherwise, get him back on one of the top 2 lines in Albany.
The pass by Sutter and effort by TomKo to get to it were great.....really energizing.
Overall, a really great night, once I blocked out the 1st period from my mind.

My seats are in 128 and when warm-ups were over, people were using the empty row in front of us to cut across, including this group of 5 that had 2 Sabres jerseys and 3 Pens jerseys/sweatshirts. I looked at my friends and said, "Am I wrong about who we're playing today?!" I had just seen Butters and SC before the game started when we were dropping off donations for the USO drive; and immediately thought of him as the jersey parade of nations started up. :-

Man #2: That is when those guys come out to repair the ice

Oh that reminds me, one of the new folks asked the lady she was with why we got called for offsides. Lady correctly answered that we had a player in the zone before the puck crossed the line. New person asked what happens if you have more then one person already in the zone. Her response, "Then it is ok and not offsides." :eek2:

And here I thought it was when a player sends a spray of ice all over the opposing goalie. :D

^ Indeed. Annnnnnnd he didn't hold "free" for 3 1/2 hours. I appreciated that.
The military knows how to sing the anthem, which DOES NOT have embellishments. He has a great voice. (and the only reason Kathryn holds the "free" is for the "whoo!"s, otherwise, she is fantastic.)
I love it when the anthem is performed how Key wrote it. (yes, I am a musician.)

There was one save in the third where traffic was all around Cam and he gloved a high slapshot. From the other end of the ice, all I could see was his glove coming out of nowhere.
I'm in 313, right above Cam for two periods. After that snag through traffic, my husband turned to me and asked, "How the hell did he see that puck?"
My answer? "Wasn't that awesome?"

FWIW, I don't see the big deal about folks wearing other teams' jerseys to the game. Jerseys are expensive and if you didn't wear them to the game, when would you? Only if/when your team played in Raleigh? A lot of folks also collect jerseys, game worn or otherwise, and it's only at games they can really wear their selected jersys from their collection. Besides, I'd rather folks show they are hockey fans and have favorite teams/players. I don't hear folks complaining about people wearing UNC/NCSU/Duke/NFL Panthers/Yankees/RedSox/etc stuff to games. Folks in hockey sweaters are hockey fans-- glad they're at the game (unless they're are from Buffalo). It's just not that big of a deal to me http://www.sciforums.com/images/smilies/shrug.gif

You haven't heard me complaining about people wearing UNC/Duke/State crap to Canes games? You haven't been listening. :D
To each his own, I say. I don't get bent out of shape over people NOT liking to see other jerseys any more or less than I get bent out of shape over people wearing other jerseys. I don't see what the big deal is either way but, it sure seems to rub people wrong that one or two people don't like something they do. I just don't get that, I guess. I especially don't get it when folks who love to scream snarky stuff at the top of their lungs at games get bent over someone saying snarky stuff about folks wearing other jerseys.
As for me, it depends 100% on who the team is whether it bugs me to see the jersey or not.
But, I'm going to two Avs games in March (probably Avs v Blues and Avs vs Canucks) and I don't have a jersey from any of the teams playing. I imagine I'll wear my Canes jersey. And it won't bother me a bit if I get some snarky comments on it....as a matter of fact, I'll welcome it. Snark is better than indifference! :D
