Jamie Hoffmann, the Carolina Hurricanes' eighth-round draft pick in June, has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent and will play baseball instead of hockey -- shortstop instead of right wing.
Hoffmann, from New Ulm, Minn., had signed a letter of intent to attend Colorado College. A CC spokesman confirmed that Hoffmann would not enroll at the school.

Hoffmann has NHL size at 6 feet 2, 195 pounds, but was considered a project. He was also the Minnesota Class 3A baseball player of the year, but was passed over in the baseball draft.

"Usually, I just went with whatever season I was in. Now, I went with whatever offer was better," Hoffmann told the New Ulm Journal. "This is seemingly better than hockey would have been."

Whatever. Good luck kid.

Meh. I don't begrudge the guy his decision (of course I'm a little biased since I'm a Dodgers fan).

Perhaps he'll wind up being a really good beisbol player like Tom Glavine (who was a 10th-round draft pick of the LA Kings back when there WAS a 10th round).

They said he was a project anyways. Not that he couldn't have been good, but if he just wanted the better deal, then maybe he doesn't have the right attitude. I know that's a bit nit-picky, but it's the only reason I could come up to be annoyed with him, lol.
