View Full Version : Exchange Games

I'm sure you all got the email yesterday about Thursday's game being the last available exchange game for any unused November tickets.

As I was reviewing what I had to exchange (all Dec unused tickets) I thought to look at what games were available for unused Dec games. There is only 1 more game available (in addition to Thurs) for Dec unused tickets: February 9th. Even though there are 2 weeks with no NHL hockey in Feb, they kept the same rolling formula.

So - just thought I'd warn anyone else that for December unused tickets, you only have Thursday 1/28 (Isles) and Tuesday 2/9 (Florida - also Ruutu bobblehead night) to use them.

(personal aside: if they are looking for ways to make STHs renew and be happy - it sure would be nice to open up the exchange games to a few weekend nights, maybe 1 weekend game a month? These week night games are really tough as it is, but then to skip a week night game only to be replaced by another week night game...I end up giving them away or not using them at all sometimes. But if they'd include 1 weekend option, I could bundle the unused together and bring along some people much more easily.)

I agree completely! With me not living in Raleigh, it's even harder to make weeknight games and wish they would do throw in weekend games too!

I have another gripe about the whole process. I know you guys that live in Raleigh can swing by the RBC center and get these tickets traded in with no problems, but for us that live out of town it sucks! They cut off the exchange time 4 hours before faceoff. I usually don't travel to Raleigh unless it's a Canes gameday and I don't get there 4 hours before faceoff! I wish you could just do it over the internet or something?! My ticket rep told me I could mail them to him and he would take care of it, but from the posts I read on here, my ticket rep has been let go. Why does it have to be such a headache?

I think the vouchers might have the 4 hour cutoff, but for exchanges of unused tickets I have done the exchange at the inside box office window near the Eye (outside sections 127/128) several times.

My guess is that it is because you did it at the inside box. If you did it at the main box office, I'm pretty sure you'd get turned away. Ah, yes, here we go:

We request that no pre-game date ticket exchanges be done on the same day as a scheduled Hurricanes home game after the four (4) hour mark before face off (example: For a 7:00 p.m. face off, no exchanges will be done after 3:00 p.m.).

That is pre-game changes..I think G-vegas and nccanes are talking about exchanges for unused tickets.

Again...for out-of-towners...go to the inside box (since my seats are near there, I can tell you there is usually a line of at least 4-6 people before the game, but during the game it is shorter (of course, I can get out their quickly at the beginning of the intermissions).

At a minimum...its worth a shot....

I agree that it is hard to exchange tickets unless you do it on a game night if you're coming from out of town. What I hate is that the box office is only open during the week. We come in for State women's basketball. The only days we could go by would be on a weekend, because weekday games, we get there at tip-off.

nccanes
01-27-2010, 04:13 PM
And they won't let you exchange on a Sat if it's a State Football game day because State takes over the box office for tickets. I fail to understand why they can't have 1 window open for other events.

I exchanged vouchers the last Saturday game (forgetting team, but it was the 8pm game). State had a b-ball game at noon, so we waited and got there at 3:40 so the b-ball traffic was gone but before the 4pm cut off for voucher exchanges (due to 8pm tip off). The box office had a LOOOOONG line of people and we actually didn't get up to the window until 4pm. Those folks working the window certainly took their time getting additional windows open given that there was a line. One guy took his sweet old time updating all the little LED signs that had some kind of test pattern.

Anyway - my last complaint is that as a mezz seat person, I HATE it when they take my vouchers behind the curtain and come out with non-mezz tickets and don't even have the courtesy of letting me know that none were available before they did the exchange. Sometimes I just wait and use them for another game.

livinthedream
01-27-2010, 04:17 PM
^ I always tell the person at the box office window that I will not approve the exchange until after they go back behind the curtain and return with my seat options first so I can approve them. I figure that's the least they can do if I'm physically at the window versus mailing them in. I made the poor fellow at the window do that three different times today before I was happy with the seat available. It's a shame they can't do whatever they need to do with the vouchers right there at the window.

As I think about it, when I do exchanges at the regular box office, they go "behind the curtain".

When I do exchanges at the game, they tell me right there what they got.

Not sure how they do it with vouchers...i did those in bulk at the box office, so it was "Behind the Curtain".....

Always verify the date as well as the location on the tickets they give you. I usually check the location, but one time I was at the car before I checked the date. I had asked for a ticket for Dec 23rd & they gave me a ticket for Dec 19th. The guy at will call fixed it for me, but it was still a pita.

01-27-2010, 04:33 PM
I haven't done any exchanges because we don't miss games but when I've turn in vouchers and they go "behind the curtain" I tell them to come back and tell me the seats before they print the tickets to make sure I really want those seats. So far, they've been cooperative.

nccanes
01-27-2010, 04:36 PM
Of course, once I checked ticket master and saw mezz seats available, went to the box office and they said none were available so I took what they had. Then went back to work, pulled up ticketmaster and saw the same 2 seats available. Called my rep who explained "that's just how it works" and the whole company line.

But then SoCal called her rep and he met me with the 2 mezz seats at the VIP lobby the next day.

kermelbar
01-27-2010, 04:51 PM
I can't recall exactly how the layout is, but is it possible that "behind the curtain" is the inside box office? And if they always have to go behind the curtain, WTF not make behind the curtain accessible to those who are doing exchanges so that we don't get in the way of people who are buying tickets? That'd be a nice little perk for STHs and non-STHs because they wouldn't be stuck waiting for the rep to come back from behind the curtain. Though God knows I've gotten stuck behind some annoying ("well, whadya got here? how about here? can I do this? well, what about over there?") non-exchanges, too.

It would be fab if all of these transactions could be done via Acct Mgr. They know what tickets haven't been used and they know what's available....

^^ 'Cause he's the coolest dude EVER. He takes great care of us and we appreciate him so much. I know he gets really irked when I tell him tales of what friends and posters here have gone through in trying to exchange tix, or using vouchers.

Mr. Socal handles the whole voucher/ticket thing in our household, and he's very Rainman-like about it; He did them all on the day we got the things, and he went to the box office with a "list" of the sections he wanted and would accept before the guy went behind the curtain. The guy was like "wow you are really organized"

I absolutely believe that you should be able to get what you WANT. Especially given the fact that you're a ticket holder/plan holder and nobody at the current moment is bum rushing the box office to buy tix. I also agree, the whole Mon-Fri dealio is so not workin'. We have more and more people coming out here from other parts of the state. They can't jump in the car and head over to EMR to do an exchange on their lunch break. Heck people who live here can't often do it either.

There needs to be a more flexible situation in that regard. I remember during the holidays, being in line to do an exchange for our friends who were out of town with their families, but were going to be back for that day after Christmas game vs PHI - the box office was PACKED and I can safely say, almost everyone in my immediate vicinty had a voucher or had an exchange. Because most were off work, stopped at practice, etc. etc. and you have this crush of peeps all trying to do the same thing and on top of that, you had regular box office traffic buying Canes tix and all the other events at the RBCC. What I think they should do is pick 2 Saturdays or a Sun each month for a timeframe- say 10-2 where STHers can do this. People would at least be able to plan. Or even better, they should make this an on-line thing. The "inventory" is pretty much "know". Why not?

they actually don't, i got a nastygram a year or so back because a few of my tradeins had been used. i use to leave extras/unused/ and sometimes gameday tickets in a pile on my desk and figured they would let me know otherwise. that summer i get the nastygram that says do it again and "no soup for you come back one year".

I have 3 November tickets that were not used and I can't go to the game tomorrow night (week nights are no good here either).

If anyone wants them for free, just let me know. We sit in the cheap seats so I presume that is what you will get in return.

You'll need to pick them up in RTP tomorrow if you want them. If you reply to this tomorrow, please email me since I won't get a chance to check from work more than likely.

So - I think I know the answer, but since I've never exchanged during games....

If I take my unused tickets from December to the game on Saturday, I should be able to go to the "internal" box office on the concourse and do the exchange for the Feb 9 game, right?

yes, but be prepared for a wait. past games only, too.

i've done it without a hitch, but lots of people try to do it, so. buy a beer on the way to the box office :-p

Was looking at the sched and the 26 game plan, trying to see what game to use the 'bonus voucher' of the Hawks game.

There are a two Sat night games that aren't in the 26 game plan:

March 13 vs. PHX
March 27 vs. ATL

Also, of note - is the final home game of the season, a Thurs vs MTL, also not in the 26 game plan.

I need to sit down with a calendar, my vouchers, the Hawks game tix, and 3 other unused tickets and figure out what to select.

I could really cause the box office to implode trying to exchange all 3 types of tix in the same transaction.

for those of us that stayed home, i got an email that tickets for that particular game can be exchanged for ANY upcoming game.

Yes, all who subscribe to the Canes emails or who are plan/ST holders got that email and discussed it for a bit here. In that email was the notice that parking was free last night. I think that "bonus voucher" nccanes referred to was about the any game can be exchanged for those unused CHI tickets.

That game was going to be a sellout according to Forslund and the game reports. It's really a shame that the weather spoiled so many folks plans and hopes to be there. Who else is on the sched that is a must see team? I can't think of one, and don't have that schedule up. I was thinking all that have exchanges for CHI could all exchange for that game and we'd have our full bldg.

Since I have a 26-game plan I tend to look ahead at the games where I'll likely use vouchers. That last home game, which surprisingly isn't on our plan (it usually is), I'm assuming is the "shirts off their backs" night so I suspect a lot of exchanges will be for that date.

I don't have the calendar in front of me... which date is the Olympic send-off? I'd bet that one gets lots of exchanges too if it's not on some of the mini-plans.

I think there's also a Caps game that isn't on our plan. It's during the week, but Caps will probably draw a crowd.

We decided we'd trade-in last night's tickets for the Phoenix game on March 13, since we don't get to see them very often. And, it's a Sat. night game, which is a good night for us.

I think back in October we traded-in a pair of our vouchers for that last home game on April 8. I thought it was kind of odd that wasn't part of the 26/29-game plan, and I wanted to be sure we got decent seats. Turns-out we got our same-exact seats! :)

The only thing bad about being able to exchange the CHI tickets for any game is that you HAVE to exchange at the box office, which we can't do. So, we're exchanging for exchange dates.

If anybody is interested.....

I ran over to the RBCC today to exchange my Chicago game tix for a March game. It was easy & fast.

She had to take them to the back first to scan the barcodes, to be sure they hadn't been used, and then she came right back out, and we picked-out seats @ the window. She didn't mind how picky I was about where I wanted to sit. Easy! :)

If anyone wants it, I have an unused December ticket that can only be exchanged for the 2/9 game. I already have tix for that game, so I don't need it. It's for section 128.

I hope everyone didn't read it that way :( I'm giving away a ticket to 2/9 in exchange for the bobblehead they're giving out. My friend volunteers, and usually gives me his, but he'll be missing 2/9, so I'll be missing my bobblehead unless someone hooks me up :(

I hope that works out for you. For the Rosey bobblehead night, my buddy and I traded in seats to get 2 extras for that night. That gave us 4 total seats, 2 bobbleheads for me (me and my youngest) and 2 for Charlie (him and his grandson). Later on I bought sideline premier seats on a STH deal. I gave my older daughter the 4 tickets in the UGZ and said all I wanted was 2 bobbleheads so she couldn't wait until the last minute to get to the game. She said "no problem" as long as she and her friends got to go.

They got there too late to get the bobbleheads.

How do the parking passes work on the ticket exchage thing? Do you lose the parking pass altogether or can they be used anyway? Thanks for the input.

Wow.

I figure I am probably screwed on trying to get any mezz seats with my 3 tickets. I can NEVER get there during the week and we had the little snow issue last Saturday. Ugh.

On top of no availability for the Ruutu b-head night, there was only 1 (ONE!) date in Feb for exchanges, despite the Oly break. Dumb.

It was a pretty long line in there when I got there. Most of those exchanging tickets, that I heard, were exchanging them for Tuesday's game. I was thinking, I should have just gone on break...when the ticket office opened instead of waiting for lunch :(

nccanes

I'll probably be screwed. I cough up about $300+ each year on unused tickets that can't get exchanged or get exchanged and then can be used. I've got 3 already, so if I can't exchange these 3, then I'm over my $300 again already.

I started this thread last week because I realized I was down to 1 date left to exchange...and due to job and snow, I still haven't made it out there.

Anyone know any reason the box office wouldn't be open tomorrow?

Yes E, you should be able to go to the box office tomorrow. We had to pick up tickets for one of hub's co-worker's one Saturday when that Manheim thing was going on and the Box Office was open.It was mildly hectic because there were 2 shows going on, and we came in the middle of people going in, but they had people at the windows.

I thought this was the reason why they went to the staggered turn-ins? If you are going to make it so that I can only exchange my damn ticket for a handful of dates -probably all week nights, than you better have a game to give me in return. I have eaten so many tickets this year since the baby doesn't like games and figured I would at least run up and exchange them for 2.9 and see if maybe I could get a bunch for friends and find a sitter. Now I have to lose them? bah. If you can't give me UL, fine, give me another game or LL.

Not going to be long before it is no longer worth it for me to renew my season tickets. Sure would hate to lose 10 years of priority but there is not much use in having it these days.

We got there just after noon, so I could use a voucher to pick up a ticket for Saturday's game. They had 3 windows open and the line went back to the hall leading into the arena. They opened another window a few minutes later. By the time I left, the line was back to the VIP doors and circling back around.

I got there around 3:00 and the line was probably 15 people deep and got much deeper before we left (could tell the rodeo people were arriving).

I managed to get tickets for all 7 of my tickets/vouchers. I will say that the "behind the curtain" person did come out and let me know that my choice for my vouchers did not have available mezz seats (last time we went they just gave us 2 in the uppper corners), so I selected another game.

I did have to take upper corners for the 2/9 game. As soon as she saw it on my post-it note, she mentioned there were only singles available for the LL, so it seems like that will be a full house, ...the seats I got were obstructed.
