I'm enjoying the culture of winning, and would like to see it continue...... of course, though..... with this team in-town, the boys'd better bring their A-game if they even want to keep it close. :eek2:
This is the last home game before a week-long road-trip, so I'm hoping the weather doesn't deter too many peeps & my hubs and I aren't the only ones in the arena!!

In past snow storms where our neighborhood streets were not plowed (and we've got hills), but I needed to get to work, I got a coworker to meet me at a shopping center on Creedmoor to take me the rest of the way.
I may be looking for a lgc-er that takes Creedmoor to the RBC and I'll walk out and hitch a ride.

My husband & I are pretty fearless. He's already gassed-up the chainsaw, and thrown it in the back of car, in case he has to cut-up a tree that's blocking his way!!

I won't miss this one.. I already made arrangements with the guy across the aisle that drives a truck (I have a Honda Civic, FWD, but years of driving "up north" puts fear in me with all the non experienced winter weather drivers). I will have issues though.. considering that my hockey sons, Brouwer and Byfuglien scored big last night against SJ. I will be happy with the outcome either way.

Ughhh, they are calling for snow, then sleet, then freezing rain, then more sleet and snow in Clayton. Not looking good for us as of right now. Need the line to shift south and put Clayton in the all snow zone again.

Oh, I am SO not missing this game. However, our nephew and his best friend, who have been planning to come down from PA just for this game are in peril. The weather models are showing the "icy" part of this storm going straight through VA and basically all through their trip. They're newly minted school teachers and have to be back to class by Monday so the idea of this going smoothly is not making me feel good about their safety. I will be SO bummed for them if this gets killed. :( They love hockey, and they absolutely love the 'Hawks, so this for me has been ill-timed.
E, feel free to text if you need assistance to get to the rink. Mr. Socal is giddy in anticipation of this nonsense, and in the 2000 20-inch event, he and his co-workers went traipsing the Triangle (once we got out of our snowed in neighborhood) to help people he works with back in their offices in Butner - sandbags, shovels and all that stuff in loading down the vehicle. He lives for this stuff, while I'd be just fine sitting by a pool on an island. It's not an imposition- so text if you need to. :-
My team is playing my 'other' team. I'm a little giddy. After that OT win in SJ last night, which was just about as fun as our own game, I want this game to be FUN and exciting like most games that CHI plays are; & that we WIN. The 'Hawks can spare 2 points. But I realize this is not gonna be easy. They can look teams look foolish and they score all over the place. Last night 3 goals in the first period and none by Towes, Kane or Hossa- it's their other dudes, like Brouwer, Ladd & Byfuglien. Canes better be READY. I'm scaring myself just thinking about this.
Crossing my fingers for our nephew and his bud.......

When I got stuck in Wytheville, Va., during My Nightmare Before Christmas, the problem was not so much Wytheville -- it was the rigs that jackknifed on the WV Turnpike. (Although I still wouldn't be so crazy about coming down the I-77 mountain at Fancy Gap. I went home for a basketball game once, about 10 years ago, when the snow had stopped but it was ice ruts through Greensboro. A rig had buried itself in the snow in the median coming down Fancy Gap. I just thought how terrifying that must have been for the driver and for the people he was -- I presume -- dodging.) I haven't looked at the forecast for the WV Turnpike part, but I would definitely look at that if I were going one way or the other.

My only concern is getting out of the neighborhood. I live off 70, so that will be plowed and my trip to EMR should all be plowed. I just hope I can get out of the neighborhood. I'm thinking about taking my car and parking it at the front of the neighborhood so all I'll have to do is pull out onto Glenwood

Good idea about moving cars to nearby parking lots. Cary Parkway will be plowed, the problem is getting the 300 yards out of my neighborhood.. and I live on a hill. Might go and park my car in facing out so it will be easier then backing up. Hmmmm All these LCG'ers with good ideas!!! Thanks.

I live one street and a parking lot off Millbrook and it's my parking lot that's the concern because I don't think it's ever been plowed -- my HOA is broke/cheap, so we just have to wait for it to melt and/or be mushed down by bigger vehicles.

Do you guys remember the game with Phoenix being pushed back 24 hours back in 2000 when the big snow hit? I'm relying on memory here, but IIRC, they moved the game back a day and played the game...no fee to park. I've been wondering about contigency plans for this one. I haven't looked at Chicago's schedule, or any other schedule for that matter, so I don't know what options they have. I have been looking forward to this one for weeks and hate to not be able to be there.

There's a note on rbccenter.com that all weekend events will go on as scheduled. There's a State basketball game Saturday afternoon too. Until the storm hits though I guess nobody knows what it will be like. Anyway, the Hawks don't play again until Wednesday. The Canes play in Edmonton on Monday. The RBC Center appears to be available on Sunday.

I would think the only thing that would postpone the game would be if the RBC couldn't staff the arena properly/safely.
With Chicago on this long-ass road trip, I imagine they will not be happy about any postponement.
And the Canes have to play in Edmonton on Monday night, so I'd be stunned if it was postponed.

I'm thinking the only way this game gets postponed if the players can't get there. Although talking with a couple of the RBC security last night they said they ain't going no where if its snowing

If you’re yearning for hockey weather, you’ll get it Saturday. A winter storm will pound the Triangle with six inches – and perhaps more - of snow, to be followed by wintry mix and freezing conditions.
And you’ll get a hockey game, too. The Carolina Hurricanes play the Chicago Blackhawks Saturday at 7 p.m., and the game is still scheduled to be played. The Blackhawks were scheduled to be in Raleigh Friday afternoon and all but one of the officials calling the game was in town as well.
N.C. State and North Carolina Central play a basketball game at the RBC Center earlier in the day, at 2 p.m. That game is also scheduled to be played, a Wolfpack official said Friday.
Duke is playing Georgetown at 1 p.m. on WRAL-TV. That game is at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The Blue Devils were leaving Durham Friday for the game.
North Carolina is at home against Virginia on Sunday night at 7:45 p.m. at the Smith Center in men's basketball

Well..... the fingers crossed didn't work. Our nephew & his bud just called and they're going to cancel the trip. :( Logistically, it would be too dicey. They both run after school activities at the schools they teach at, and they won't be home til at least 8pm and their planned 4 or 5 am trek here would put them in the midst of the snow/ice situation and that's before they even get to NC. I want them here safely so it's a mutual decision that they stay home.
What the kicker is: we bought them 2 seats on the glass for this game and they were both over the moon when we told them that's where they'd sit for this.
I do hope they cancel the State game. They can reschedule that probably easier than we could reschedule this game.
I just hope things are not so crazy out there and everyone is safe getting to the bldg.
Brindyfan, We'd most definitely stop for ya so we'll be on the lookout.

Thanks LTD, hope you're back here safe now and not trekking back. We've decided to take the plunge and sit on the glass and we'll exchange our regular seats. That is the bright spot on this one.
There are some whacko rules in San Jose on flying out of that Airport after 10:30pm PST, IIRC. If you want to fly out "late" they have a noise ordinance regarding airplanes out there; so, you have to go to Oakland or SFO. I'm guessing they made the decision to not fly through the night, or trek to Oakland or SF to get out last night, so they flew all day. Too bad for them (heehee) maybe they'll be a wee bit tired. especially since they've been on a long roadie and this is the last game. (This is what I'm telling myself, lol)
I'm with LTD, often kicking myself (and hub, lol) on our choice to not stay in Raleigh when we went house shopping after the first 6 months here. :- E, you must keep us posted on any sightings of the 'Hawks :)
k, I'm putting this here because it's HILARIOUS and I play it frequently just to crack up :

It's not my husband and my car I'm worried about, it's all the other idiots out there. I really wanted to go to the game. I've never seen Chicago before and I know they are a really good club. :(

If we get 6-8 inches of SNOW as predicted, I'm not too worried. I can handle that.
But if it's a bunch of ice or, if it turns out to be more like 18 inches...then I'm not so sure we'll make it.
And if I miss this game I will be absolutely distraught. :(

What makes me scratch my head is not so much these players out and about in VAN with some ladies they're young, rich hockey players, and they play on a rockin' team, etc. etc. What's a little interesting, is that John Madden who is not a young dude is out hanging with the kids.

The Chicago papers had an interesting column (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/morrissey/2016007,CST-SPT-morrissey28.article) on this whole episode; mostly on how this whole episode is so "un-hockey player" but the writer reminded me of why I was disturbed by the photo of Madden and do hope it's photoshopped like alot of people are saying:
There is Madden in another shot, shirtless and flexing his left biceps for the camera. The explanation he'll have for his wife likely is a work in progress, but for now, we'll assume it will have something to do with whatever's in the glass in his right hand.

I'm not sure whether or not you were serious about the tailgating part, but remember that State plays this afternoon at the RBCC, so I'm not certain what that means in terms of when the parking lot will clear out to be open for our game.
The basketball attendance should be a harbinger of what we can expect tonight.
We're still planning to be there. Mr. LTD is from Pittsburgh (so he has years of experience driving in winter weather) and we have a four-wheel drive SUV so unless something happens over the course of the day to make the road conditions here completely treacherous we should be okay.
ETA: Just saw FinFan's post about State of Emergency...
My understanding is that as long as the teams and league officials are here they won't postpone the game, and everyone's in town already. Here's the official RBCC link (http://www.rbccenter.com/default.asp?RBCcenter=98&objId=127) for updated status.

^^^Just remember that "State of Emergency" doesn't necessarily mean that we're in a disaster status-- Governor's just have to use that phrase in order in mobilize special services, like the National Guard who are out helping to clear roads in F'ville. Not worth harm to us and our car to do a 62 mile round trip, especially when it is dark and a temps in the 20s after the game is over.
Sucks, we really wanted to see the Blackhawks too.

ms. sd took care of that for me yesterday. Nothing worse than being couped up with kids all weekend and no beer. It'll be bad enough if I can't make the game. Of course that probably won't happen since I'm at work this morning doing the Post Office thing.

Well.... hubs & I have decided we're not going. He spent the night at the theatre which is right by Pullen Arts Center, across from the NC State bell tower. He said he ventured out to Western Blvd. to see if he could get something to eat .... and he's pretty diehard about snow, having grown-up with it as a Kansas farm kid... but.... even he says it's really treacherous, and told me not to venture up to Raleigh. And he's really pissed because he says he hasn't seen any evidence of any plowing of any kind, anywhere. You can tell from Web cams they haven't touched I-40, so I know my routes along Hwy. 55 & 401N must be awful.
His biggest concern is our safety after the game when it's dark and everything is just ice.
Oh, well.....

That's pretty much my feeling, too. I was just talking to Mom (in WV) and I was telling her that I'd probably be more likely to risk it for the 1 p.m. basketball game (which I'm not) than for a hockey game that starts and ends in the dark, so we'd be traveling in the dark, less likely to see icy patches, etc. This is part of my STH package so I just don't feel the need to risk life, limb, higher insurance rates and getting stuck somewhere in Raleigh when I can exchange the ticket.

I'm confused about the lack of plowing too? I had the tv on in the background this morning and it seemed like he (plow/maintainance 'engineer') said everything was good up until 3am or something. Surely they don't consider this too dangerous for freakin' plows!

I was checking out traffic cams at WRAL and hardly any of the roads look like they've been plowed. Then, I caught a view where I could see a plow in the picture that had just gone through....and the road still looked un-touched?!? WTF? Do they not set their blades low enough or something? In Boone when they plow there are SPARKS coming off the blades. You're SCRAPING the damn road.
Anyway, the Canes tweeted that any unused tickets for tonight would be exchangable for tickets to any remaining game this season. Thanks for that, at least.
Anyone who gets out on the roads, give us a report. You can't get anything useful from the TV people and we're just not sure yet.

Oooh! I didn't notice that tweet! Any game? Really? That'd be great, because we already have traded other tickets from the Fall for the remaining trade-in days, and figured I'd just pick one of those & sell them.
That'd be nice if I could use them for March 13 or 16, 'cause we currently don't have tix any for those days, and they aren't trade-in days. :)

Here's the litmus test for me regarding the game: Would I have called this a snow day for work and just taken the vacation day or would I have forced myself into work-- reminding myself that the government never closes? I'm guessing I'd be at home having an Irish Coffee instead of a quad venti skim latte from Starbucks drive thru...
However, if anyone is up here in Wake Forest/Wakefield area, let us know how those roads are, eh?

Here's the full update (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=515555&navid=DL|CAR|home):
RALEIGH, NC—Davin Olsen, Vice President and General Manager of the RBC Center, today announced the following changes for today’s events at the RBC Center due to the winter weather in the Triangle:
Both the North Carolina State men’s basketball game against North Carolina Central at 2 p.m., as well as the Carolina Hurricanes’ hockey game against the Chicago Blackhawks at 7 p.m., will be played as scheduled.
Parking fees will be suspended for both games.
Fans who cannot attend tonight’s Hurricanes game can exchange their unused tickets for any other Hurricanes game for the remainder of the 2009-10 regular season. Such exchanges must be made at the Time Warner Cable Box Office at the RBC Center during regular operating hours beginning Monday, Feb. 1. Fans must have their tickets in-hand when making their exchange.
Seating for the NC State game will be general admission.
^^ Saw where you posted the link as well CL, and I agree, I think they're doing what they can for the fans, although I'm sure there will still be complaints about something they didn't do... sigh...

If I use that test, I'm going. But I'm "essential personnel" at a hospital. If I don't show up on a snow day, I get a disciplinary action on my record that is half-way to fired.

Canadians on one of the Canes FB pages are giving people crap because it's only 6 inches. Why don't they get that snow removal is not the same here as it is there?! That we get this roughly once every two years and we just don't put salt and stuff in the budget like Toronto or Edmonton does. (And this is why they all move here!!!!) There's no fleet of plows sitting in Raleigh year-round just waiting for snow.

I'll tweet when we head out SHC- hub said the same thing about the cold; so we're still going. We're going to be coming from Apex, but at least I can give a general feel of what it's like out there.
Finfan will wave or do an ear tug or something for all the peeps who can't make it out. Where exactly is Liberty NC? Better to be safe, but I know you're bummed.
We plan to leave "early" and head over to the Backyard Bistro- We were watching ABC11 and the reporter outside the DOT salt barn, got a special delivery from them (breakfast), the owner told her that he wasnt originally going to open, thinking they were going to cxl these games, but since they've gone forward he said he was opening. So I think we can slide some business over there for doing that.
Here's something; LGC follows Joe Ovies from @620am- he is covering the Wolfpack game & he's tweeting from RBCC:
5 minutes until gametime: http://twitpic.com/10jegj300-level of the RC Center is officially closed. So if you have tickets, pick any seat in the house.

I did have the chance to speak with our postman-- he's the best! He said the subdivisions are OK, it's the main roads that are the problem. He said the secondary roads and Capital are icy-- and very little plowing. So I asked his recommendation about going to tonight's game-- stay off the roads-- he can't wait to get home and he had chains on his truck.

Butters here. Well I was still hoping that I would want to brave it, but after walking to get the mail and checking the roadway, the main road which we would have to be on for several miles is pretty much a sheet of ice from the sleet and being packed down by the cars which have been out on it.

You should all be hoping for "no turnout" for tonight.
Everyone should be at home, not out risking their lives (and the lives of others) to watch a hockey game THAT'S ALREADY GOING TO BE TELEVISED!!!!
It's people like that who are also the ones who think "Hey, I can drive on this stuff. It's not so bad." And they're the same ones that the cops have to come and pull out of a ditch.
There's a solid inch of ice under the snow, and the conditions are only going to deteriorate as the evening comes along.

Yes and yes. I grew up outside of DC as some of you did, and got really good at driving in the fluffy stuff, but it's so different down here. That ice at the bottom of the snow is insanity. 4x4 does nothing here.
If y'all should be hell-bent on going out, pack the car with blankets, coats, etc, and make sure your cell phones are charged, just in case you get stuck out there.

Just finished our "attempt" to get to the game. We bailed out and are back home.
The hill on EMR up from the mall had several cars starts spinning tires -- including ours (no AWD). We took the "long way" home because there were cars on the hill going the other directions up Creedmoor were stuck too.
The beltline was actually in good shape - guess all the resources were spent on that because that is the ONLY road in which pavement was viewable.
(PS - I had a lot of trouble with my car - also a Mazda3 while the DSC was on. Once I turned that off the car seemed to respond better, I'm not sure I would have gotten up that hill by the mall had I not turned it off.)
My advice is that Six Forks was a better option over Creedmoor due to that hill by the mall.

Just walked the dog through the neighborhood and its a big sheet of ice. If we had skates, pucks, and hockey sticks we could seriously have our own neighborhood hockey game. A neighbor tempted to go, but ended up turning around before getting out of the neighborhood. They went to make the last turn out and their wheels started spinning and said it just wasn't worth it.
Watching the news and they just showed the intersection of EMR/Duraleigh, its not plowed and looks to be a sheet of ice.
For all you brave souls who made it, please be extra careful coming home. Here's hoping ALL caniacs and players get to their destinations safely.

Although I was looking forward to this game, I'm really glad we decided to do the right thing and stay home. (hmmmmm... doing the right thing..... that doesn't happen every day!! )
Samehere. I just got off the phone with mom to tell we weren't going and at the sametime she was watching the news and saw the roads. To say the least, she's very happy we decided to stay home. Especially after I told her that if something happened to me she would have to take the dog

OMG! I have WRAL's news on. Kathleen Fritsch, our anthem singer, is in the hospital at Rex. It was a sledding accident -- Sounds like they veered to miss a car that pulled into the road and hit a fire hydrant, and "bumped her head." They're keeping her there for tests. Her little face looked bruised. Yes-- they had a camera at the hospital and were talking to her Dad. Her eyes were open, but she didn't say anything.
Needless to say, her Dad says she's not singing tonight. :eek2:
E, glad you got back home safely.

Wow. During my outing, I was really surprised to see a few things (like the car that was weaving thru traffic in a manner I wouldn't even in good weather) and very little kids walking along our icy neighborhood streets w/o a parent in sight. Made me so effing nervous that I'd get right next to them and then go sliding into them. Also saw someone towing 2 kids in a big tube (designed for water). They went "up" our street first and then came "down". I wasn't sure why you'd ever tow kids DOWN hill.
Canesluver
01-30-2010, 06:49 PM
There were some teenagers in our neighborhood, towing kids who had tied a rope to their sleds..... that is until they got into our cul-de-sac and got stuck. Dumbasses!!
When I was a kid, my folks wouldn't let us sled on the street. There was one house where everybody congregated because their backyard was at a pretty good incline. We were safe from cars-- but not trees or the little creek at the bottom of the hill!!!
Edited to say:
Kathleen Fritsch? That doesn't sound right? Katherine Fritsch -- yeah that's right.... right?

Great tip by Sutter to end the Hawks momentum.
I never played hockey, I can barely skate. But of all the things they do on the ice, that's the most amazing to me...deflecting a shot in midair. The puck is moving (in this case, a LaRose slapper), the stick is moving and neither is more than 2 inches wide.

We're winning now because it's not just our Star forward. All of the top 9 forwards are clicking. Cullen's line is on fire. LaRose and Sutter look very good together and Tlusty is much better defensively than I expected for a guy as young as he is. And Mo is rolling all 4 lines...the 4th line had 8 minutes at ES tonight, in a situation where Mo was more likely than not to shorten the bench.
Of course, Ward's save on Kane was otherworldly...otherwise, none if might not have mattered.
And sleeting again in N Raleigh when I walked the dog after the game.

Traffic report... First off, few people actually on the road made for an uneventful trip home, ThankS God. Getting out of the lot wasn't bad. We were able to drive about 40 mph on US1/440, then about 30 on Kildaire Farm/Ten-Ten Road through the back roads. Some roads were plowed earlier but we've had enough extra precip that there's a lot of accumulation on the road but John didn't think it was that difficult to drive on.
LOTS of A$$HOLE Blackhawks fans in the arena last night with their attitude and sense of entitlement and they were loud especially on that first goal. So glad we shut them up.

OK, haven't read the part of the thread I didn't read at the game yet but couldn't wait to say......WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!.....again. :D
I believe I have debunked the myth that things would get worse after dark. Our ride home was 10 times better than our ride to the game. No issues at all. It only took us about 45 minutes which is probably only 10ish minutes more than usual. The snow that fell during the game really helped, I think. As Doug and I discussed at the game, whatever this crap is it's strange. I'd rather drive where they haven't plowed at all. The nice packed down expanses of white are much better than anything slushy. Oh, and it's snowing like crazy here right now.
So, great game AND relatively little stress on the drive....TOTALLY worth going out for, for us.
Now....excited to read the thread!

We got home about 45 minutes ago, a 40 min ride over all; which is about 15 min more than normal. We seemed to have "issues" getting let out of the lots--- all 7,000 of us, but once out, it was a fairly easy drive for hub and it was pretty vacant by the time we did the stretch through Cary into Apex. The roads are as crappy as they were when we left.
I will say this- ya'll know my love for those Blackhawks; I enjoyed this game, this effort and that baby faced goalie (look up the Forslund Focus on Ch.com, he did a tribute to #30 that was great) and I liked the team game. We sat in the seats meant for our nephew on the glass in 121, and I'll say, I likely won't do that again, but for this game--- it was perfect.
Kudos to the crowd- yep, lots of Hawks fans/transplants, some obnoxious, others not bad; we had a couple say as we were slopping thru the lots, "we can't figure out how the Canes are last in the East". I liked the energy in the bldg and the fans trying to keep the bldg going. We had 3 storm squad members-- Mean Gene and 2 girls, and MG did his dardnest to keep the pep up.
I loved being able to see the players faces and reactions that close. Joni Pitkanen is going to bite his tongue off one day. He never keeps it in his mouth. and in the I'm-gonna-gross-you-out dept, Pat Kane's mouthgard literally looks like chewing gum. I fail to see how it would fit over his teeth. It was so gnarly looking I had to text nccanes to tell her cause I was so disturbed by it.
I don't care if we're not "tanking" I'm thrilled that this team pulled it together in some fashion. We may not make it all the way back, and the odds are against us, but I personally want my team to play til the bitter end.
I liked "Tall Paul" the announcer. He is about 20 steps better than Hoyle. If ya'll went to the tournament for the disabled hockey players last season; He was the announcer. There was a hilarious moment when he was on the video board lip syncing to Ms Cyrus' "Party in the USA" word for word and had the crowd cracking up. Should be in flavor of the game.
Yes, the Hawks were coming to the end of their roadie, traveled cross country all day, and were sluggish to start; but they are SCARY good. That Kjarmallson block on #8 early in the game- wow. Everything I see on CI is even more magnified in person.
I will say it was well worth it to trek out. I'm glad folks made the right choices for themselves on whether to go or stay home.

Thanks for checking-in!
(NCC said everyone who made it to the RBCC had to post when they got home, so we knew you weren't stuck in a ditch or something!)

I don't think I can wait up for G'Boro Hurricanes though! Be safe GBH!
And SoCal, that clip of "Tall Paul" IS in the FOG. Looks like the guy has a sense of humor. He must be associated with 99.9 because it seemed like JF and MM knew him and he may even have been with them afterward?

I'm in! I'll echo the sentiment that the ride back was much easier than the drive down.

E, I think Tall Pall is actually an RBCC worker. I don't quite know what exactly he does, but I've seen him with the "promotions" team and Doug Warf a ton in and around warm ups. Just not sure what he does for the team- Or maybe he works for the RBCC. I like him.
In the 99.9 postgame, I like Forslund's comments on #30, specifically about his dedication to "having fun" and being the best, etc. what really struck me, was when he talked about his Olympic dream "going to dust" that night in CLB; and how "bitterly disappointed" he was that it died. I remember that night, after we were all worrying for Cam, literally trying not to cry for him, because regardless of what the healing time was going to be--- and remember it was so up in the air and kinda mysterious on when he was even getting out of the hospital, I just knew his dream was sunsetting and for every time I recall being so incredibly happy for a group of people on 6/19/06, more than I would be for myself; I was devastated for Cam on that night in Columbus. Stevie Y., I think you may regret not at least having Cam as an "option". ;)
SHC, sounds like your trip home was like ours- uneventful. I hope GBH's is too.
Those Blackhawks tweeters! WOW. Ya'll need to let stuff go. You're still wayyy up there in the standings. You'll be back in business in The UC in just a matter
of days.
ETA: yeah GBH! Glad you're home safe!

My hard drive once again can't accommodate the full download of all of the pictures I took tonight, but in the meantime I did pull this one down. Versteeg was in my line of sight when he smothered it but I did get the moment of anticipation just before.

Just imagining that is hilarious!
Wish I would have been there tonight, but really hated that Greenville to Raleigh (and back) trip in the ice/snow. I tried it years back when we played Buffalo and it sucked very badly, from the road conditions and the game (when was that game anyway?). I saw the most wrecks in my life that day. Knowing my luck, I would have seen the same game.
Glad you guys got to see a great game...So we got us a Winter Classic after all! :D

Not sure what those other two did yesterday but I hope it was spectacular because the third star certainly was.

On the television, there looked to be more Hawks fans at the RBC tonight than there ever were at any Chicago home game from 1998 though 2007.

That game was really worth the trip, had no real issue to and from the game except from some Cane STH deciding he woluld drive on the shoulder on the right side to get on the beltline from hillsborugh exit.. not sure what he though he was doing jackass..

that is why i stayed home, could have gotten my clan their without a problem but the "idiots on parade" after the game made me think it might turn into the "big one" daytona!!

superdave tips the pimp hat to all that made the trek. After having to deal with the weather with my work related stuff (Post Office), I was ready to lay low when I got home. I thought about it since it was one of the most anticipated games of the year (hockey gods once again poking us with a stick).
Thanks for the updates and the game experiences. Whether insane to be there or not, at least the team didn't have to play in front of a "friends and family" crowd.

So, the pace for the playoffs right now looks like you'll need about 88 points to get in in the East. We'd only have to go 22-6 the rest of the way.
 Sorry, started early on the Irish coffee. Man, Jameson's is good stuff. :(

While I imbibed yesterday in Irish Coffee (several, actually) I also discoverd that vanilla vodka (which is just wrong) does go rather well in a Chai Latte.

It was January 25th, 2004. (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/scores104/104025/20040125NHL--CAROLINA--0nr.htm)
I remember having to fight the bad weather down there and back plus it was a month after my ex and I had split up. I was still getting used to making that commute by myself and we still had to sit together because we had season tickets together. The season was already lousy and that made it even less fun.
And what a day that was! Butters and I were leaving for Hawaii to get married and flight cancellations never crossed our minds. We had driven up from Jacksonville and were staying at a hotel at the airport exit and instead of going straight to the airport and getting out of town asap, we went to sleep and woke up in panic mode realizing what we had done. We went to the airport at 4am and thank gawd we got out on probably the only flight that left that day and caught up with our original itinerary in Houston. It was the most stressful time I have ever had to deal with and I am so thankful that we got out and none of our marriage/honeymoon plans got effed!

Whole day was great...tailgate, basketball, tailgate, hockey.
Canes played a good game but I'd say the win was based more on Cam's brilliance and Huet's shakiness more than anything else, because boy howdy is Chicago good. Waves and waves of attack, and dear lord they're fast. It'd be a privilege to watch that team every night.
Anyway, there's that old cliche about "showing them they should've picked you," but I don't think it's ever been more appropriate. Cam's playing better than any goaltender in the league at the moment.

Wow, what a game last night. No problem getting there around 1:20pm for the state game although I did have a little trouble getting home after the hockey game but I made it home safe and sound. I was just out walking around and I think tomorrow morning is going to be nasty because it'll probably be more icy.

I remember that day/game too; it was hellacious getting out of Apex, and I remember us passing 2 cars in ditches off US1 and me calling the highway patrol to report it. We were sure we were going to be next it was so insane out there.
We watched the game on Tivo this morning; Hub got a few texts from people who saw him on the glass, lol, so I insisted we check it out - plus we BEAT the 'Hawks and were there last night . John & Tripp were entertaining; interesting that the Staals invited Ladd, Duncan Keith, Towes and the other Thunder Bay guy, Patrick Sharp to dinner.
Today's Chicago Tribune (http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/hockey/blackhawks/ct-spt-0131-blackhawks-hurricanes-chicago20100130,0,2935.story)had it's usual game after write up, which mentioned the Ladd-at-Staal's house for dinner thing and was basically a decent write up; the fun is reading the fan comments. They're jumping off bridges over this loss:
Cam Ward for Hawks goalie and Niemi is the back up for Stanley Cup.
Simple!!!
It's all about the goaltending in the playoffs. Hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come.
I was definitely concerned about this game, and obviously as it played out, with good reason. Hate to say it, but these are exactly the type of games, which seem to be happening alot of late, which concern me about the Blackhawks and their chances of winning it all. They have just too many letdowns. Championship type teams seem to be able to somehow pick themselves up in the games where the mental challenge isn't there, but the Hawks seem to be best at finding excuses for their letdowns, instead of avoiding the letdowns in the first place.
"Ladd is still friends with both players and dined at Staal's house Friday night."......somehow I dont believe that Ladd, Staal and Ruttuu dined shirtless....too bad the 3 Hawks havent figured that part out...:lol:
Madden---zero points on road trip
Versteeg---one point on road trip
Kane---plenty of points on road trip
Trade Versteeg, release Madden---we got Burrish and Bolland coming back, two guys that lead by example not by silliness, plus Versteeg became an instant millionaire over the summer from a mailing mistake and has gone downhhill ever since. Free up some Salary cap since the kid isnt delivering anymore. Brouwer has more goals than Versteeg and he can fight.
McDonough and Blunk better get control of the message for this Team---it doesnt match the behaviour...Cool to be boys will be boys, but McDonough quit with the feel good family nonsense ok?
Just win
Someone needs to help the CHI peeps with that panic button. My goodness; They'll be fine, although I am not a Huet fan, and as a Hawks fan/observer, I have my doubts, but reading the couple dozen posts, made me chuckle hard.
