RALEIGH, NC—Doug Warf, Director of Community Relations and Executive Director of the Carolina Hurricanes’ Kids ‘N Community Foundation, today announced the team’s plans to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in February. As usual, a number of Hurricanes players and staff will show their support for the foundation, which raises awareness and funds for childhood cancer research, by shaving their heads in solidarity with kids who typically lose their hair during cancer treatments. In addition, the team, in conjunction with 96 Rock, is offering fans free tickets to its game against the Buffalo Sabres on Feb. 11, if they are willing to have their locks shorn for St. Baldrick’s prior to the game.

The Hurricanes have reserved 100 pairs of tickets for the game against the Sabres to encourage fans to support St. Baldrick’s, and each fan who shaves his or her head will receive two tickets to that night’s game, while supplies last. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., Salt from 96 Rock will be on hand, assisting a team of stylists in the head shaving activities on stage on the RBC Center’s South Lawn. Fans can register for the event early by visiting www.StBaldricks.org/events/CarolinaHurricanes. FOX Sports Carolinas television analyst Tripp Tracy and Hurricanes Radio Network play-by-play announcer Chuck Kaiton will each have their heads shaved live at ice level by childhood cancer patients from UNC Children’s Hospital during the second intermission of the game that night. Hurricanes television play-by-play announcer John Forslund will emcee the event, which will also be shown live during the Hurricanes game broadcast on FOX Sports Carolinas.

In addition to Tracy, several Hurricanes players will show their support for St. Baldrick’s. Erik Cole, Niclas Wallin, Tim Gleason and Andrew Alberts will each get bald during a Glenwood South event at 1 p.m. on Feb. 27 to raise awareness and funds for St. Baldrick’s. The event will take place on a stage near the corner of Glenwood South and North Street. Fans interested in supporting Cole, Wallin, Gleason, Alberts, Tracy or Kaiton in raising awareness and funds for St. Baldrick’s can visit www.stbaldricks.org to make a donation under their names, and to learn more about the foundation.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation makes grants to research institutions to find new cures for childhood cancer, and to find treatments to ensure a better quality of life for patients and survivors. The Foundation funds research projects conducted by established pediatric cancer experts, as well as younger professionals who will be the experts of tomorrow. Funds also enable hundreds of local institutions to participate in national pediatric cancer clinical trials, offering the best available care for every child. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is grateful to its many volunteers (bald or not!), donors and sponsors, including Allied World, Barbicide, Dowling & Partners, elope and PartnerRe. That's cool.

I've been thinking of shaving my head for a couple months. I hate my hair. This might finally be all the nudge I need! Hmmmmm.........

My 10-year old son is going to participate in the Feb 27th shaving at Hibernian... I'll post a link, for your donating pleasure ;) , when I officially get him registered. He's never even had a typical kid "buzz cut" before, so this should be interesting!

My son's registered for the St. Baldrick's event now... also on Feb 27th, at Hibernian, but I don't know if it's associated with the same "event' the Canes are doing.

Here's a link if anyone would like to donate to St. B's on his page, and thank you!

well, Alberts, Gleason and Tripp have $0 to date. Cole and Wallin have $50. Maybe Wallin's waiting until after this. Doesn't he do this every year?

I was hoping I could take the money I "pay" to wear jeans every Friday and make a donation because all that money goes to a charity. Unfortunately, I can't.

Although it looks like KITC is where it's possibly going this year ;)

Done! Love to be the one to be the one who has made you reach the goal you've set: now everybody else on this board can have the honour of being the one who made you go beyond your goal!!!

PS Note to you and StormChaserBH: I fully expect to meet up with both the shavees (not holding my breath for meeting Cole and especially Wallin) when I'll be in town in March.

PS PS why would StBaldricks insist on me living in the USA when I specifically selected my own home country the Netherlands????
