^ Chip tweeted that Cole's still a no-go and Tuomo might (LTD does a little happy dance) be ready for Saturday night. And of course Chad's not on the trip.

So... is someone else being called up from Albany to replace Jiri, or are we expecting a special delivery from somewhere else?

Hmmm with JR saying a Wallin decision should be made in the next 24 hours, I'm thinking we are getting a special delivery. Especially if it remains to be SJ b/c they have to trade a roster player in order to fit Wallin under the cap.

Chuck really stumbled with his words when 99.9 asked him about that. I don't know if Chuck just choked on his cigar or he wasn't sure what to say....eventually he spat out that it could 'someone like Boychuk' but he wasn't the least bit convincing - so either he has no clue or he's bad at lying.

GOOD GAWD.

Question is, how long has he been hurt and was he battling through it the last two games, which we can say were not Cam-like (but his people in front of him, weren't helpful either)

Some how, this pouring rain/sleet dealio going on right now is appropriate.

Chips says it might be the back flaring up again.

This is why you have a back up goalie so they can play a game and you don't run your franchise goalie into the ground. No reason for this guy to start 21 some games. I know Legace was going to play, but why even start him after 15 some games when he has pink eye. Makes no freakin sense.

I know this team thinks they still have a chance to make the playoffs and of course you want your best goalie out there, but darn, hit the reality button.

OK, done rant.

I'm so freakin' sick of the upper-body injury, lower-body injury smoke-and-mirrors crap. It's all so 30s-era Stalin. ("We saw the girl get shot in the head!" "You saw nothingski -- she has upper-body injury. Return to your homeski, peasant.")

So, just so you know, I will be reclassifying upper-body injuries as "nipple trauma," and lower-body injuries as either "testicular torsion" or "severe hemorrhoids."

Twas quite bizarre all the tweets coming at us this morning, I'm sitting in the chair at the hair salon and my Blackberry was just off the charts. In no particular order here are some of my reactions as this is all going down...

Cam = :( :( :(

Possibility of Justin Peters in net for the big boys sometime this weekend = :D

Boychuk back with the big boys = :D

Chad LaRose = Anyone have ANY idea what might be ailing him? :(

My Finn skating on a line at practice today = :D :D :D

But as much as I miss him PLEASE do NOT use this revolving door of injuries as an excuse to rush him back into the lineup! Kthx

Is Erik Cole EVER coming back? :(

Nic Wallin = LTD desires closure on this soon please if it's actually going to happen :(

Buffalo = :sick: :sick: :sick:

Asked about Ward's injury, Maurice said Ward was not injured Wednesday in the game against the Calgary Flames, but that Ward began to stiffen up during the flight Thursday to Buffalo.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Erik Cole dealt in the offseason if we can find a team to unload him to. Now that Staal has finally proven he can produce legitimately without Cole in the lineup we don't have any reason to keep him around considering his injury proneness. He could be Tripp's replacement though, that'd be okay with me!

It's a problem with a pretty easy solution though..we have a backup goalie for a reason.

I believe SoCal was referring to Cam's back issue becoming a long term on again/off again issue, not that he should play every single game. IIRC, it began during the Canadian Oly Camp in the summer.

Yeah, I know we do. Thanks. HOWEVER, I know that we do have a backup goalie, but I'm not The Coach who prefers to run his goalies into the ground, cause that's how he rolls; I was referring to what my good friend E, so points out exactly what I meant:

I believe SoCal was referring to Cam's back issue becoming a long term on again/off again issue, not that he should play every single game. IIRC, it began during the Canadian Oly Camp in the summer.

On top of this E, if I'm recalling correctly, after they sorted out his injury issue at the Olympic Invite Camp; it was noted in the Canadian press that Cam's injury dates back to the ECF's last year.

This isn't just oh Cam hurt his back, this for me, makes me think of Belfour and his wonky back, Hasek and his groin injuries and I really am not trying to be panic stricken, but there's a goalie on Long Island that has had a myriad of hip/leg type issues that have recurred one time too many, that last one making him lose a season and then some.

Cam's our franchise goalie, and I know he's our guy; my concern is you don't ever know on stuff like this, will it be recurring? Will he need surgery somewhere down the road? That's why it's concerning for me.

I'm laughing at LTD's post- It's been a schizo kinda day on so many levels, I'm personally having trouble focusing on the fact we are actually playing tonight.

Mo, this is why the backup goalie needs to play from time to time. Did Cam really need to play in 23 straight games? Maybe if he had a night or two to rest his back, he'd be okay. I guess we'll never know. I guess we'll now get a backup who's only work has been opening the bench door.

What LTD said... all of it.

Cam's been playing so much lately, and against very physical teams (this entire road trip had been against teams that slam you), he may have just pulled something and the temp changes just tightened up his back. He needs a rest every once in a while, especially when we play so many games in a row with little break in between.

I kinda hope Peters will be between the pipes tomorrow in NYC. I think he'd do well.

Well looking at the depth chart on the main site Corvo is the healthy scratch tonight.

Boychuk is playing with Sutter and Dwyer.

And Peters is of course backing Legace.

Forslund just said Nic WON'T play tonight. He'll be the healthy scratch.

SoCalcaniac
02-05-2010, 06:15 PM
Where does it say Corvo is the healthy scratch? Why? because he's not really "healthy"? and if he is why in the hell isn't Aaron Ward the scratch?

This day has been annoying at best, on top of which, we'll have to work to sync up Chuck with the CI feed so I don't have to listen to RJ. I'm not amused.

livinthedream
02-05-2010, 06:17 PM
You may have missed my post on the previous page since it flipped over. Nic's still the one who will be scratched on 'D' for tonight, per Forslund on 99.9 just a few minutes ago.

KF's referring to the depth chart (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/depthchart.htm?dcid=12) on ch.com which is where at the time of this post it's showing Corvo fourth on right defense behind Wallin, Ward, and Alberts.

SoCalcaniac

Thanks for the clarification on who is the 'real' scratch. At first, I thought maybe they didn't update it since the Edmonton game, but then I saw Boychuk and Peters in their positions. Guess they just didn't update the defense section.

ETA: He was back on the ice at the end of the period so, maybe he just got cut.

SoCalcaniac
02-05-2010, 08:17 PM
Chuck seemingly ignores anything that happens to players on the ice, as he is so absorbed in calling the game. I know now why hub tells me and the folks that sit next to us after (insert player name) gets hurt/leaves the ice, etc. "He is in a bubble and pays zero attention, no updates" So to answer SHC- No update on #6.

We have synced up the whole CI/Chuck K feed by delaying the TiVo. I think hub has it perfectly set so we are a Jenarette Free Zone.

Boychuk's got some jam in his game. He's not chasing the game; and I still contend he can give passing lessons to half the team.

Oh, and if Manny seriously took a shot from Aaron to the throat; OMG there are no words.

Joe Corvo is so soft spoken.

SouthernHockeyChick
02-05-2010, 08:22 PM
In the past, Chuck has always been ahead of our feed so, no way to sync. May have to check and see if that's still true. although, Jeanneret has not driven me too crazy. He wasn't his normal bleating self on the one goal. And I admit, he calls the game well....I just can't stand the other crap.

Joni's excessive minutes drive me insane!! I know the idea is for him to carry the D but most of the time, I see him just simply not changing. The next shift D is sitting on the boards waiting to go out and Joni just glides on by. I wish he would learn that he's so much more effective when he cuts the minutes. Not to mention he wouldn't have to hold and tackle the opposition!

edit* LTD, I concur and I see that as even more reason for him to sit his butt down and play normal minutes.

BTW, did you guys hear they're ditching the slug after this season? Thank god the embarrassment is finally over (not that there was a more deserving fanbase of said humiliation). They're going back to the old sabers and buffalo logo.

UGH!

That's been my observation as well. Corvo has 2 more shifts but less TOI. Gleason has the same number of shifts and 4 less minutes!

He looks pretty much like himself to me, lol. Seriously, though, after he got put into the bench in Calgary Mr SHC said "Well, we won't see him playing again for another month!" But, credit where credit is due, he didn't sit out.

Chuck K. was talking about it, and he even called the current logo "That Slug or Worm logo"

Um, anyone notice that commercial with Derek Roy? He looks like a figure skater and not a hockey player. Kinda like Scott Hamilton?

The Joni minutes thing has me just irked. Aren't they paying attention? The correlation between him playing 30 mins = Crappy play; Less than 25 min= better play, not overloading.

Just got in. Saw the tweets about Manny and thought damn this dude must have the worst luck. He finally gets a start after 10 games, then can't play due to pink eye. Then he finally gets a start after another 10 games and he leaves warm ups. Glad to see he is ok on that front. How is he looking in net.

Does the team look like the team from the 4 game win streak or the team that was in Alberta? Minus Joni cause sounds like he's having another bad night.

And the team is probably somewhere in between the 4-game win streak and that comatose team from Alberta.

And WTF. Two fantastic bounces for Buffalo.

Hey...could that have been a high-stick?

Guess not.

Poor Miller. (NOT) he looked like he was about to burst into tears.

I heart The Juice.

Too many daggone penalties. Too many gaps allowing people to skate in and do stuff. Turnovers. Stop it.

I'm thrilled that they won it! Woo!

Oddly enough, the Leesville Tap Room couldn't get the game on their CI package. We walked in at the beginning of the 3rd to see 3 TVs on the Caps/ATL game and another on the FLA game. Another TV was on NHLN and I asked if they could flip a tv to the Canes and he tried to convince me it wasn't on. He did try to find it but it appeared (to him) that "it's not televised". Oh well.

Yay Jussi!

We watched the end of that Leafs-Devils game. It ended during the second intermission of the Canes game (which was on our CI package). Anyway, the Devils scored three goals in three or so minutes. Kind of reminded me of a certain Canes-Devils game only this time it turned out a bit differently for the Devils.

From the AP game recap (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/recap.htm?id=2009020852&navid=DL|CAR|home):

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -After playing only a few minutes since before Christmas, Manny Legace wasn't going to let a scare in pregame warmups force him out.

Jussi Jokinen snapped a third-period tie and added an assist, and backup Legace made 28 saves after taking a slap shot to the throat before the game even began in the Carolina Hurricanes' 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

With workhorse Cam Ward sent home for treatment for an upper-body injury, Legace was ready to appear in just his fifth game in the last 28. But it almost didn't happen after defenseman Aaron Ward's blast from top of the right circle sent Legace to the ice clutching the bottom of his throat. The 11-year veteran was attended to by a trainer for a couple of minutes before gingerly skating off.

"It probably would have taken a bullet between the eyes to keep me out," said an upbeat Legace, who has been in the crease for only 7 minutes since Dec. 23. "That scared me. It winded me a little bit, but once I caught my breath I knew my windpipe was fine and I was ready to go."

Bless his heart, with the way his season has gone so far, it just HAD to be Aaron Ward, didn't it?

If Legacy played well, there's probably little chance in Peters starting against NYI. That's just the way Maurice cooks his bacon....

Last night I was on the fence as to whether or not I felt like going to watch the game. There were many factors against venturing out, the main one being having to listen to RJ. But after having a productive roll session from 5 until 8, I called one of my buddies and asked if it was worth going over to Blinco's to catch the rest of the game. He said yeah its 1-1. So I headed over and caught the rest of the game. I'm glad I did. One of my other buddies, knowing my hatred of all things RJ placed the speaker box right next to me. :) That sorry rascal! Good thing I still had water in both of my ears because that muffled RJ somewhat. :) I have to say RJ and his MSG broadcast team, while not the worst in the NHL, are really really REALLY bad. And BTW did I mention that I hate all things RJ. :)

It'll be interesting to see who starts tonight. The audio clip on the main site from after the pre-game skate had Mo saying that he wants Peters to get a start and he might in NY, they'll decide after the game.

I think they need to see what Peters can do. Is he ready for back up duties next year or do they need to sign Legace for another year.

I feel bad for Legace though. His bad luck is fitting right in with the rest of the teams.

Hey, where's today's game thread? ;)

I agree on the broadcast teams, Forslund for me is elite. He makes Tripp tolerable. Tripp has his moments but I can deal with him "most" of the time.

I do hope The Coach sticks with what he said in the pregame skate yesterday- we do need to see Pete Dawg and we do need to know how close he is or what.

Hopefully they're all ok up that way with the weather situation- from what I've seen on TV, looks like NY isn't nearly as bad as DC, NJ, & PA. Just spoke to my mother-in-law they've had 16 inches in Derry, PA, about 35 miles SW of Pittsburgh and the winds are howling.

For me not really, because they have Miller. And he's phenomenal, although he didn't give a very Miller-like performance last night.

That being said, I think that Manny has been a perfect fit for our goalie situation. Experienced, calm, competent, competitive, great team guy, great attitude, seems to be able to deal with a system that keeps him in a limited playing role. From the day he got here he just seemed to fit in.
