Here's another team the guys should be able to beat. Please win this one for me, cause I feel so crappy!
Should be a pretty full house, so y'all need to keep it rockin' for me since I wpn't be there. Don't forget it's Rutuu bobblehead night!! (and if anyone ends up with an extra .... I'd love to have one 'cause I want to paint stitches & black eyes on it!)

Now, this is better. We know this guy.
18-4-2 and we're in (64.9% chance anyway). Odds of making playoffs? - 1 in 1000.

Hey E, here's your reminder to leave the office early so you can get your Bobblehead and miss some of the traffic hassles. ;)
Should be a good game, I'm looking forward to just being in the bldg. I think there will be alot of Olympic jerseys in the house like KF's. Tis the season............

I am just amazed at how LaRose's bobblehead looks so much like him, yet Ruutu's looks like...well I'm not sure who it looks like.
So for bobblehead likeness, that company gets:
Cole: C
LaRose: A+
Ruttu: A WTF?

Here's the warning --- Last time they did Bobbles (LaRose) the lines into the bldg were into the parking lots. We are typically in line at about 5 or 10 til 6pm when the doors open. I was STUNNED that we were not even in the door when we walked up to the line; and having gone to all the games where there was a giveaway especially of the bobblehead kind, I've never seen a line that long. Nobody gets to the rink that early on a game day. It's a pretty hardy and familiar group of people that enter the doors when we go in. If it were me doing the driving, I'd be there at 6:30, alas, I am married to Mr. On Time. If the doors open at 6pm that's when we're "supposed" to be there. We don't do "late".
So the point of this is--- If you are a diehard Ruutu person, and you must have this Bobble, GET THERE EARLY. We sit next to a few STHers who are Chad people, and were bitterly disappointed when they showed up at 6:40 and the BH's were gone.

We're in-the-door-at-6:00-people too - every game. I want to be in, have my food, and be in my seat for warm ups.
For BH nights though, we get in line about 10 minutes before 6:00. The lines for Chad's BH were some of the longest I've ever seen. I'll bet lines tonight will be even longer for the BH Hubs calls "The Ruutu Bobblehead or Reasonable Facsimile Thereof." I question the "reasonable" part of that title though.

I told the boyfriend to have his butt at the house no later than 5:15pm. We should be parked and in line by 5:45pm if all runs smoothly. Of course, I'll have to hear him beatching the whole time while we are standing in line. Oh and please no rain while we are waiting, I don't need that to add to the beatching.
Maybe I'll send him over to the South side to pick up our autographed puck. It'll give him something to do

Driving from Charlotte I'm usually in the lot around 5:15. I'm one of those people who would rather be there, sitting and twiddling my thumbs, than be stuck in traffic or get a flat and be late. With the weather today, I'm aiming for 5:30. For the Cole and LaRose BHs I was able to snag an extra but I'm guessing I won't have that luck tonight.

Hm. Don't look now, but: 11 points back of Montreal (in 7th) with a game in hand and 2 games head to head. So "in theory" as few as 5 points to make up. Just sayin'. (And, you know, Boston and the Rangers to keep struggling, etc.)
Meh. None of that really is sensical, but it's fun to win home games. Just sayin'. 'Cause we have 2 of those left before the Olympic break and all.

Good 40 minute ending to that game. (I thought they looked choppy, unsure and out of sorts all first period) I loved the effort, the guts (yes, you Mr. USA Olympian, and while I'm at it I like you too Goertzen) and the Finn Fabulousness going on in the bldg. Hey #25, isn't something when you SHOOT the puck? The shock on your face when it when in, I'd love a picture of that (ahem) just for giggles.
But as all this fun and enjoyment was going on, I was thinking back to Forslund's appearance on NHL Live! today and him mentioning that there would be 12 teams scouts in the bldg tonight. my prayer was that they were looking at AWard up close, but then he started doing that traffic direction crap and then stared down a man while a loose puck was at his feet and I said yeah, they want to steer clear of him.
Good to see the bldg full, especially considering that the last time I was in the bldg it was the 'Hawks game, and well you know it was an intimate gathering that nite. Seemed to me that it was one of those mixed crowds, some coming because it was Teacher Nite, and others maybe haven't been to a game, and that first period didn't give people much to cheer for, then the bldg got going a bit when the scoring happened.
Matt Cullen really had something going on tonight. I thought the Captain was breathtaking in several stretches. Only an assist tonight, but he was a presence. It's clear he's healthy.
I thought our PP had one moment, I'd hate to see it all get shot to heck so they need to get it going.
It was really great to see Ruutu in the lineup. I noticed he left for a bit, and then returned-- was holding my breath on what the heck was going on, and then he came back.
Gleason is going to have one of those scared up faces. I think I just hold my breath everytime he gets smacked with a puck. Honestly, he stresses me out more than Joni does. Two very different reasons, but he stresses me out nonetheless.
The Bobblehead will grow on me, and great job by the crowd to Ruu and Woo everytime #15 was on the ice.
Hub says the Canes should do a "Finn Figurine" in honor of the trip to Finland.(He doesn't think it has to be a bobblehead, just something depicting all 3 dudes) Now that would draw a crowd eh?

Fun game (but obstructed view seats in exchange for mezz seats absolutely blow).
It appears we've nearly broken the Panthers. George Richard's blog is filled with awful quotes from their GM.
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/flapanthers/
“It is brutal,’’ Randy Sexton spat after Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes at RBC Center.
“It was [expletive] brutal. We have too many guys who don’t compete. You can’t win in this game unless you’re ready to show up and go to war every night. We don’t have enough of them. .-.-. This is not type of team we want. We’re going to keep making changes until we get that. It takes time.

I'll say this- for a team that was "only" 5 points out of that 8th spot, they sure didn't look like they cared much.

I don't listen to MM too much (and I actually made quick time getting home and didn't keep him on following) but I swear I might prefer Mark Thomas (is that his name - his "Insiders" sidekick). Thomas doesn't attempt to pass himself off as an expert (since he's not) and it's so much more tolerable.
I happened (by some strange "luck") to hear MM with JF, Chuck, and Mo on my commute home and to the RBC and if he said one more time about the big rivalry between us and the Panthers I was gonna scream. Yeah, there's been some odd games with them (mostly in Sunrise) but I'd hardly call it a rivalry.
Until the SE can send more than 1 team to the playoffs and they actually FACE each other, there just won't be a big rivalry - but little blips in intensity given what happened in the most recent meeting.
I mean, how could ANYONE watch that first period and make claim that this was much more than a scrimmage, let alone an intense rivalry.
SoCalcaniac
02-09-2010, 11:37 PM
Any "Rivalry" with anyone (save maybe the Caps) in the SE is laughable at best; I'll contend that the closest thing we had with FLA in a rivalry aspect died when they traded Olli Jokinen away. When it was OJ's team, for some reason we all hate a hate on for each other--- that and Belfour as the goalie. They hated JWill, and EC, and they called us names, and all that jazz, but that would be as "close" as any kinda hate on.
Maniscalco is getting more difficult to listen to (even more than ever) with his constant "What This Hockey Club is" commentary. UGH. Dude, change up the vocab. Oh, and E, yep, it's Mark Thomas. I'm kinda with you- at least you know he's clueless on hockey. MM does seems to feel he's an expert, and then defers to Forslund when he challenges a comment he'll make.
nccanes
02-09-2010, 11:42 PM
I know Mark Thomas is not the right person for the gig and just about anyone is gonna get on our nerves, but when I heard he and MM with PK, he seemed much more at ease with PK than MM. Of course, that may come from him having been a pro athlete and MM just being some radio dude. And I'm not sure what really transpired, but when Thomas made a joke , they talked about JR taking a swing at Thomas' jaw.

I picked this out because I think it bears repeating, especially to any Staal-haters who are still out there. What we saw last night was a game where he can dominate without making a major impact on the scoresheet (and that assist was a half-whiffed shot that Vokoun put on Jussi's stick). DeBoer couldn't get Weiss' line away from Staal fast enough. Maybe it's because Horton wasn't there, but they had nobody to physically match up with him.

HA!
I thought my use of "breathtaking" (which apparently andyt got, lol and I agree with your statement andyt-spot ON) would differentiate captains. I don't know if there has ever been a time in Rod's career that anyone would have described him as a breathtaking type player.;)
I recall the year #12 was drafted and we were in NSH for that draft; we were at this meet and greet the draftees event that the league put on for fans -- there were guys from THN, and other Canadian media outlets there in a Q&A for the fans- and I remember one guy who was a former scout, now a muckety muck type from the Ontario League--- and the question that year if ya'll recall is Staal/Horton with a little yakking about Fleury. Because at the time, FLA had the 1st pick and in Panthers like fashion- they TRADED DOWN. Anyway this panelist described our #12 as "regal with a bit of bite" and went on to break down his skating stride, that long reach, competitiveness, and "when he's on he can't be stopped" etc., etc., and "if he can ever gain some weight" and all this stuff -- "this is why he'll go 1st overall" I never forgot the word "regal" until the 05-06 playoffs, where it cropped back up in my head, and I knew what the dude was trying to say. I saw that last night, even if it was The Panthers.
I'm laughing because I know when #12 was named captain- I think I said we can't call him The Captain- and there I did it. How about Captain Baby Bird?;)
