Unfortunately, CL's back is down for the count this morning after another early morning trip to the ER , but like the good LGCer she is, she texted me on her way and asked me to start the game thread. So - be well CL, I hope they can find you some relief!

So - aren't we all thrilled. The slugs are back in town. If you are interested in hanging with the Sabre faithful, head on over to Buffalo Bros (http://sabres.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=58465) tonight for the Sabres Road Crew get together. I hear SHC is making a special trip so that Rick Jeanerette can make some calls for her live and in person.

It's also St. Baldrick's night (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=60003).

And as CL always closes her Game Threads:

Let's Go 'Canes!

And although I won't be there in person, guys, for the love of all that is holy and non-Barfalo, PLEASE beat them in our house.

Get well CL!

Looking forward to being in the house for this one. We'll see if the guy shows up in 128 with the slugs jersey and kilt in this chilly weather.

Not looking forward to seeing their fans, but ever hopeful that we can beat them twice in a row!

OMG, last season during the last Buffalo game, a guy wearing a Slugs jersey and a kilt sat behind us. He was drunk and extremely vulgar, people in the section complained that there were children around and to please shut up, and I believe the ushers finally removed him. I'm no prude but he was way too vulgar for public consumption, in my opinion. Oh, and after hearing some of the things he said and certain vulgar things he referred to, I didn't dare turn around and look at him because I feared what would be at my eye level, if you know what I mean.

Please oh Please beat these fools. Buffalo is reeling a bit, on a 4 game losing streak or The slug fans need to be quiet and only way to keep them quiet is to beat them.

He may have had on combat boots but I don't really remember. But yeah he did look a bit strange and his behavior was even more so. He wasn't in section 113 for that game, though. We were all on the third level. It's got to be the same person because I can't imagine two of him.

When I heard the STHs he was with mention him sitting with them for playoff games, that's when we asked to move our playoff seats. I knew I wouldn't be able stand being around that guy again. And we moved our ST seats for this season too. All because of that particular guy.

their bandwagon will likely be in full force.

but that's okay because it always turns into an awesome atmosphere because the canes fans don't want to be outdone by their fans

and inevidably a fight, or at least a verbal one, would be seen/heard. so it's always a fun game.

A friend of mine is as big a Buffalo fan as you'll find, while also a big Canes fan (the other 78 games) and knows the rest of his mates behavior in our building has been an issue -- he's wearing a Sabres jersey to Thursday's game but with a tape nameplate reading "NICE SABRES FAN" ;) ;)

Seems to me that the over-the-top obnoxious behavior has dissipated some over the last season or so. You're always going to have your outliers as mentioned above but it seems to me that we've been mostly concerned going into these games and relieved coming out of them, including the shellacking they gave us at the end of last season (when they won but missed the playoffs, darn). Hope that stays the trend anyway.

And, of course, with every loss the Sabres second round pick that we now have in exchange for Nic Wallin becomes better and better.

For those who didn't get the tweets, the Canes are reporting that the now falsetto-voiced Legace will get the start again tomorrow night, and Pete-Dawg will start Saturday night.

I say bring the Slug fans on. I love how they look at me and think I'm this pathetic girl from the South and think they can talk all this smack. That is until I inform them that "i'm a philly girl and they have no clue who they are talking to."

Which then 2 things happen: they try to start even more crap or they just shut up.

Speaking of which, isn't it time we got the text tree going. You know, in case anyone needs to be bailed out of jail

Seems to me that the over-the-top obnoxious behavior has dissipated some over the last season or so.
And what's the common denominator? Their team was mediocre. Their team is good this year. I'd expect the worst tomorrow.

And I have to admit to being a trader. I'm bringing a friend who is bringing her boyfriend.....who is a Sabres fan.:sick: Not a huge one and he's actually from Rochester, not Buffalo....that seems to make a difference. He's been a really decent guy so far so, I'm hoping that continues. Just in case, though, we got their seats in the next section over rather than right beside us.

will be there as ususal. Kind of excited, since this is my first game of the season, haven't been able to make many this year with the new baby and all. I should post pics of the boy in his Canes outfit, it's pretty cute if I do say so myself.

I fully expect LaLame to be in goal for the Sabs. Buffalo defense ususally doesn't fair as well with #40 in goal, as he can't stand on his head like Miller (last five games not withstanding).

Hope it's a good game, and of course, no one gets hurt.

After a one game absence I'm healthy enough for this one. I kinda wish I had been healthy for the last one and sick for this one, though.

Am I the only one at home for this one? We decided not to go at the last minute.

lgc_com just tweeted:

Greetings from the RBCC. spotted in sec 121 a #Sabres fan, beer in hand witha jersey that says "Drunkard". Way to kick off the #Canes game. 15 minutes ago from mobile web

I searched the lgc archives and noticed he shows up in the 3 previous game threads, lol - one dating back to 2007!

Here's a video of the road crew meetup last night....I'm guessing they are all at the RBC tonight.

I'm at home for this one. My seatmates took advantage of the $25 offer and got tickets, but I decided to save money and skip it. Considering that I've been dragging this week, I'm really glad I made that decision. (Although I'm going to try assemble IKEA furniture while I watch the game, so we'll see how "relaxing" this night is!)

For those of at home, it looks like there's a thing on the '10 USA men's hockey team on FSNC pre-game (i.e. right now).

Oh, that was way way way more fun than I should be allowed.

I was concerned about the tone of the game when the siren sounder made a tone that was flatter and lower than the 14 game losing streak, but the boys came out fighting...and I thought played the best 60 minute (plus) effort of the year.

Even when they were down 2-0, it didn't seem like they deserved to be... We were taking shots, physical, and passing.

Tying the game at 1.2 of the first stunned the cr** out of Buffalo and made for a very peaceful intermission!

Sutter was awesome on both the goal and the GWA. Wizard - wow!

Even Award only played a 1/2 bad game (which Mike M called his best of the season and said he was back to Boston form on Aftermath). (I would still say his game was 1/2 bad) - I will say he took a wicked crosscheck on the tying goal at the end when the Refs had swallowed their whistles.

GLEASON - was hitting anything that moved the last 5 minutes of the game. He played an awesome game. And it was nice to have Corvo's blast back to open up the PP.

I like #23 (not going to try & spell it yet) - Lots of Chad like energy. And Legace held up well after those early goals - although he definitely got a lot of defensive rebound help tonight.

I LOVE BEATING BUFFALO TWICE IN THE SAME WEEK!!!:D:lol:

ETA: LTD - I'm shocked! Do share...127 was pleasantly bereft of Slugs fans...

Did you get her ejected? :)

I met a woman at a game once whose husband had been kicked out after getting into a fight with a Sabres fan. They'd been in the bathroom and the Sabres fan did his bidness then headed for the door. The woman's husband said, "What? You f*ckers don't wash your hands?" And it was on! I love that he got kicked out for defending common-sense hygiene! It just seems so appropriate to have to point that out to a Slug fan.

Surprisingly, only a smattering of slug fans in 328. Although, if you know 328, you know the "Cheaters Never Win" chant they have. The girl behind me (in a slug jersey) started doing it quietly when we went to the box

Good Win...way to tough it out and play all night long. A most enjoyable game to be at ;)

Talked to some guy out front when we were leaving and jokingly asked, "How many got carted out of here tonight?" He said it was a slow night, with less than 10

And the Backyard Bistro dinner was great. In and out in under 45 min. Made it just in time to see the lights go down :D

The b!tch smacked my camera.

And I got into a "discussion" with a group of drunk kids on their way out. My friend said I egged them on by saying "Wide Right" "Foot in crease" and "We have a cup, you don't". Guy told me to stop living in the past!!! Then he started with a slew of very very rude words.. most started with F and end in K... it was horrible. These kids sat behind us in 303 304 the whole game and were drunk and stupid. Worse than playoffs. AND the drunk girl with them walked by me during the first intermission saying.. I would be crying in my beer later. They were rude from the get go.. and I couldn't hold my mouth any longer.

I hope you smacked the b!tch with a hockey stick.

My god that was fun. Can we beat Buffalo every night? :spin:

I thought we looked HORRIBLE for the first half of the first period. Skating in quick sand. But I thought they got it together....thank god.

We had some Sabres fans around us but, they weren't too, too bad. I mean obnoxious, stupid hockey "fans" but, not overly Sabres-annoying. I particularly LOVED the guy who went on and on and on about how horrible a goalie Legace was during the first. Guess it doesn't take much of a goalie to beat your dumb team.

And WTH was with Legace showing up late for the second period? Weird! Maybe he had a hard time getting his second cup on.

We played a "fun" game tonight. Since Buffalo has been thrown out as being in the Matt Cullen sweepstakes I was asked what Buffalo player I would take to make me feel OK about seeing Cully in that freakin' jersey. Pretty much Tyler Myers, Tim Connolley, maybe Craig Rivet....that's it. So yeah, I say we nix that idea. :D

LTD was on fire after the game, telling us about her fight with a slugs b****.

We had a smattering of Slugs nation in 121. Including a dude with a BUF jersey labeled "Drunkard" on the back. He was seated in the 4th row, so we got to see "Drunkard" go up and down to the beer bar, (6 trips) and screaming "lets go buffalo" every time after the 2nd trip. UGH. We had a dad of a "caniac" family in front of us (he was a Slug fan decked out and all) he spent the first period taunting his children (about 5 and 7 yrs old) with "Your goalie sucks and that team sucks". Seriously who taunts their own kids?

After the 2 goals, I was ready to smack someone. and then the kid-o #16, scores that beauty to get it going.

I have pretty much let 2006 "go" -- I still despise the Sabres, their fans, blah,blah- but I can let go of the nonsense that happened; but every time they come into our bldg I just start boiling and want them to go play in traffic.

This was good game on alot of levels. I love how they're just playing for each other.

I will be happy when all this can we keep everyone together and not trade anyone talk. Matt Cullen played his heart out.

Brandon Sutter had Eric Staal like tendencies out there on the ice tonight. It's amazing to see him transform before our eyes.

On the announcer front- Brian Hoyle came out and played patty-cake with the little boy he does this with every game, then he disappeared. The new guy I think did a pregame and seemed to struggle with Tuomo's name (Too-MOO?) but he did have a clear voice. I personally liked the guy who filled in during the CHI escapade.

Hoyle wasn't PA announcer tonight. Is this a one-time substitution, or has he been replaced? If it's permanent, can someone please teach the new guy how to pronounce "Samsonov" and "Tuomo"? Sorry I didn't catch the sub-announcer's name, but he mumbled it. :)

I was in 128, and sat in front of a row of Sabres fans, but the most obnoxious thing any of them did was that one guy kept bragging about how big his house is. I was tempted to turn around and say, "I bet you lie about the size of everything."

Whooo Hooo, I love beating Buffalo. They sure are quiet when they loose. I actually didn't have any trouble with the fans until I was leaving. Get to that later. I ran into some peeps who I have not seen in like 3 years so I ended up staying at the Deck with them after the game for about an hour. Tons of Slug fans there, but they were real well behaved. Ended up having a good convo with one, his friends were a bit too drunk to talk, could barely stand. But he came over and said Buffalo was leading the way for Whitney. I said "please, Whitney calls Buffalo a sh!thole, he ain't waiving his NTC for that place." and slug fans goes "what he does, well, its why I moved from there"

Anyway, as I was leaving there was a group of slug fans in the parking lot along with my car and one other car. As I was walking to my car one of them yells "is that your car, get it out of here before I move it" to which his little beatches started their giggles. I just said "isn't it about time you got on the road back to that sh!t town you call Buffalo".

Great Game. And did I say, I love beating Buffalo.

In my previous post, I mentioned Hoyle was out there and then disappeared. Maybe they canned him. I want the guy who was subbing for him when we had the Hawks in town. I liked him.

Oh, I think Tim Gleason was gonna kick Tyler Myers a** but thought better of it. They were in a bit of a tussle several times tonight. #6 certainly was a bad-ass.

Which reminds me completely on a different tack but related to #6 ; last game we watched warmups from The Deck- and a lady came up to me, and commented on my Gleason jersey- (old school #42 jersey that he signed that first season he was here, and personalized it with my name) Anyhoo- she comes up to me and says "Hi, You must be Socal" and I say, "yes it is" thinking she may have known me from here, or something (but she knows my name cause it's on my back) and she says "So you must know that Tim got engaged right?" and I say "yeah, they mentioned it on the broadcast the other night , why are you his mom? " Next to all this BUF sillyness, that was the most bizzarro thing that's ever happened in the arena. She says "Oh No, I'm not his mom, I just wanted you to know" ---- and- awkward silence later--- I really had no response except to say "well, seeing how I'm married, and I'm just a fan of Gleason's not looking for a husband myself; -- I'm not sure how this conversation applies to me".:crazy:  Mr. Socal, as per usual was sitting there, looking at her, dumbfounded as to why out of all the jammed up people on the Deck she came up to ME.

I did like the look on gleasons face when myers came in on a collapsing 3 on 1 and he played the body on gleason... timmy didnt exactly go flying off of him, but he didnt exactly not budge. he looked pissed that myers went no where.

For a big guy, Myers has an awful shot, but that's the only negative I saw. His ability is going to catch up to his size a lot faster than Chara's did, IMO (if anyone else remembers the Islanders Chara).

 BF that's HILARIOUS. We have to teach our children well.

I'm glad ya'll are laughing at my little interaction with random lady at the Deck. I'm still floored by the whole thing- SHC, hub said after she left, "do you think she thought you'd be devastated or something over this news?" Cougar --- oy.

LTD, that is FREAKING HILAROUS of course you wear a players number/country's jersy and you're related (Uh, hello?).

Here's two other stories to make you CRACK UP; thankfully related to my husband-- the summer of the Cup win, we were at a local ice cream shop; hub pulls up, we get out of the car, and hub is wearing his SCC polo shirt -- and an elderly-ish man, sees him and says "Hey are you on the Hurricanes?" (hub is 6'4 kinda lanky, but bow-legged. If he ever played hockey it would be a sight) fast forward to last year, when hub had surgery on his torn meniscus at Cary Wakemed; checks in and the gal at the desk sees him in yet another Canes polo shirt, and says "Oh HI!, do you play for the Hurricanes?":laugh: Keep in mind the only thing that gave him "Canes cred" was him wearing a polo shirt with our logo. OKAYYYYYY..................

andyt- Myers is impressive because I think he's farther along than the Islanders version of Chara. He's going to be good.

SO the good news is that for the most part, Slug Fan was 'harmless'. C-girl, where do you sit? security was pretty normal in our section- but having one stationed in our area --- yikes. I'm getting flashbacks.

314 had our own personal special security guard tonight.

Two guys came into the section, one in a Canes jersey and one in a Slugs jersey, both drunk. I'm pretty sure the Slugs fan started drinking when he left the unemployment office in Buffalo this morning to drive to Raleigh.

They sat in the seats in front of us - these are STH seats and we were pretty darned sure that they hadn't sold those tickets to Slugs fans. They never miss a game. The Buffalo fan proceeded to mouth off at the . . . Buffalo fan sitting next to him. There were four young well-behaved guys sitting there. The older drunk guy kept trying to buy his hat for $5. He was oh I think the word is OBNOXIOUS. The older guy didn't have a tooth in his head but that lack was compensated by the abundance of hair on his back that spilled out of the neck of his shirt. So, when the young Buffalo fan wouldn't sell his hat, the older one started throwing around vulgarities. Somebody went and complained to the usher.

So before security got there, the regular STHs who have those seats finally arrived, a little late. The Drunk Buffalo Fans (DBF) started arguing with them that those were their seats and even showed them their tickets. Apparently, they don't learn to read in Buffalo. The regular STH - a huge man - finally convinced them that they were in the wrong seats so they moved down to the other end where they were supposed to be. About that time security arrived and handed them the Etiquette Cards. Like that was going to do any good. The DBFs just pitched them off the ledge. Then a big security guy came and sat down in a seat behind them and stayed for most of the game. I assume the DBFs reasonably behaved themselves.

After the game, we looked over there and saw that they had spilled enough beer to swim in. Seriously, there was a huge pool of it on the floor. They were still having a grand old time. I don't think they realized they lost. At least the spilled beer didn't actually get inside them.

We thought about following them to their car and calling in the license plate to the Highway Patrol. :D

LTD - I'd love to hear the backstory of what lead up to the camera whacking.

Sorry for the delay folks, had to prioritize starting my photo download since Tripp interviewed Tuomo...:D

Anyhow, it was really bizarre. Y'all know I'm prone to walkabout in my section depending on my mood. I spent a good portion of the game down low near the ice, then as is typical with about 7-8 minutes left I mosey back toward my seats 20 rows up so I have a view of the entire ice, and so as not to interrupt folks to get to my seat in the middle of the section, I usually just plop down in an end seat.

Well tonight said end seat happened to be behind four Sabres fans who were delighting in leading very loud cheers for their team. No biggie, but the lady in front of me got really annoyed when I started cheering, this is no lie, "Let's Go Canes" along with Big Mike's horn.

So she turned around and told me to go back to my real seat. I told her my real seat was just a couple of spots away, and she said well, you're really annoying and you should go back to wherever you came from. So first I politely remarked that we're all just sports fans cheering our teams, even threw in that I'm actually a fan of Ryan Miller, but you could see she was just perturbed that there was now a Canes fan sitting near her cheering.

So they started the typical trash talking about dumb rednecks and bandwagons and being handed the Stanley Cup as a gift and such, and I started remarking about the taste of silver polish and how they should start bragging when they've actually won something, you know, standard trash talk, when she said look, why don't you move your f&cking a$$ back to your real f&cking seat. So I told her that if she really wanted me to leave she was welcome to go find an usher and I'd be glad to relay to them what she'd just said to me. So she called me a word that starts with a 'c' and rhymes with hunt, I took her picture, you know, for evidence, and she tried to smack my camera out of my hand. That's when I grabbed a big ole slice of her arm with my free hand and said listen b!tch, this camera costs more than you make in a year, and oh by the way, I know every usher and every security officer in this building, so if you don't want your a$$ hauled out right now, I'd advise you to STFU and sit back down and don't bother me for the rest of the game.

It is funny how when Buffalo rolls into town, Canesvision and Stormy do extra. Since when does Stormy have signs made up and professional signs made at that. And all the crap Canesvision puts up on the JT, espcially with Jim Kelly saying he's a Canes fan

And I swear the team still knows us fans hate Buffalo and even the guys who weren't here seem like they are in on the hate as well.

The Buffalo games are certainly an event. The emotions flow and swing wildly. Since we didn't end up going I was like "oh, I feel so bad for the Caniacs" when the Sabres scored...and scored again.

Then I read the lgc tweets and game thread with entries from people AT the RBC and I can feel the tension that I'd have if I were there. Then I start screaming at the Canes when they had eleventy-billion chances that didn't go in, a 4 on 1 that doesn't even result in a shot and I'm screaming "C'MON" .... "C'MON" over and over.

When it finally came time for the GWG OT goal I literally was screaming "OH MY GOD....OH MY GOD....YOU ARE KIDDING ME" and laughing and making these odd motions with my arms (arms up even with my shoulders, elbows at 90 degree angles, hands flat toward the ground and moving them in sync with my yelling) - Mr ncc was like "what is wrong with you".

Then when they showed the crowd shots we froze it so we could see if the slug fans were running up the aisles.

It's all so strange.

Oh and to the guy wearing a blue Sabres (non-slug) jersey section 117 or 118 that kept standing up and blocking everyone's sight lines? He was wearing #57 and I kept yelling at hime to SIT YOUR ASS DOWN YOU EFFING AHOLE and I wasn't even in the arena, nor was he blocking MY view. At one point he was standing while there was a face off in the closest circle and doing some strange thumbs up deal. Wasn't sure if it was for the fans or he thought the Slug players could see him.

I admit, I'm too invested in those games.

What a game. We got the $25 tickets and were in 111 last night. There were a ton of slugs around there. Thankfully, my husband sat beside the ones on our row and I sat by a very nice Ruutu fan. :) Turns out the slugs on our row were nice.

On our way into the RBC, there was a group of slugs who got a "Let's go Buffalo" chant going and each one of them still had a can of beer in their hands. They're a bunch of drunkards. I told my husband I'd be nice and not start a "Go home Buffalo" chant.

As my husband was meeting me at the Eye after the game, he said a female slug from a group of teen/twenty year olds stopped him and asked what a Whaler was. I'm sure he gave her his WTFGTH look and walked on.

I wanted to wait until I posted the highlights before sharing my Buffalo experience.

I was in 110 last night, and the nicer old Buffalo fan beside me said he brought 18 fans to the game, which were sitting all around me. They were, for the most part, docile.

The guy behind me, on the other hand, was right out of a Yankee sterotype. He had the grating accent and talked at the top of his lungs. The guy talked literally the entire game save for 5 seconds in the 3rd, and I turned around because I honestly thought (hoped?) he had died.

Within 5 seconds of sitting down, he started yelling about how Ryan Miller was an F'ing American and Cam Ward was an F'ing Canadian and Ryan Miller was better because of this fact.

Other nuggets (beyond the minutia of his life) were that Raleigh didn't know anything about hockey and should have bull <b><i>fighting</b></i> at the RBC Center instead (maybe he thinks Raleigh is a suburb of Madrid?). Also that the Hurricanes were 6th in their "conference" (I guess he meant division, but there are only 5 teams in the SE) and that OT was only four minutes long.

Oh, and he wanted to punch Stormy in the head. Stay classy, Buffalo.

Thankfully the Buffalo fans around me (101) last night were pretty quiet and normalish. The worst I ran into all night was outside after the game where we engaged in some harmless trash talking that went something along the lines of

Slugs - "Hey the Canes suck! You guys are in last!"
Canes - "Oh yeah, and you still lost to us twice in a week. What's that say about you?"
Slugs - "You're still last! You suck!"
Canes - "We also have a Stanley Cup. Where's yours?"
Slugs - "You suck! Did you know you're the only team to not make the playoffs (counts on fingers) blah times since winning the Cup?"
Canes - "Just remember that part about winning the Cup. Still don't see your name there. Must hurt."
Slugs - "Well, the North won the Civil War! We're better!"
