I wonder what the make-up of the team will be, come game time? A lot could happen between the start of this thread and puck-drop.
A couple things going on:
It's Eric Staal bobblehead night, for the first 10,000 in the building.
Also-- you can get your picture taken with our guys' Olympic medals for a $3 contribution to the Kids-n-Community foundation, so be sure to make a trip-over to see the bling.

I think it's funny that it looks like I'll be able to get there early enough for the Bobblehead (yay working from home) and yet again -- it's Staal. I will now have 3 items of this ilk (stationary "figurine" and 2 bobbleheads) - and they are all Staal.
I might actually try to get there as early as all y'all early birds! I've got bobbleheads to get, photos of Olympic Medals to take, and a special visit with CL (hopefully).
(Cross-Post)
I'm again left to begging for a bobblehead... I've got the other three, and I'd like to round out the collection.
If any of you Raleigh-ites go to the game, and do not desire your bobblehead, please send it in the direction of this guy.
Thanks!

I'm looking forward to getting back out to the RBC Center. I was really sick during that last homestand and only made the Buffalo game.
I'll be there when the doors open. I love bobblehead days and I'm looking forward to having my picture with the medals. I had my picture taken with Barrasso's silver in 2002 but I have no idea what happened to that picture (my ex probably took it with her).

That Staal bobble looks eerily like Eddie Haskell! Funny thing is- Staal has stick straight hair and his bobble has these waves in his hair, lol.:lol: The bobbleheads were very hit and miss this year. :-
I'm looking forward to being at the game tonight. Was odd going to practice in what seemed like months being away, lol. That pic the Canes tweeted of the medals made me smile. Totally looking forward to it.
We're getting there even earlier than our normal 5:30 cause we've gotta pick up that "tailgate torch" and then get in line with the masses. Get there early ya'll, it's gonna be a zoo!

They did good job on the 'medal' display. I was thinking they would just have them on a table or something. Nice touch with the jersey's. $3 is well worth the price to get a picture with the medals/Olympic jersey's. Since I have no ones, they can keep the change for putting together a nifty display.
Cullen was to have been on David Glenn's show today but I did not get a chance to hear the interview. I assume it will be on the 99.9 page?

Butters I was thinking the same- We'll just donate and take pictures of the display we don't need to take a pic with the medals. It really looks cool. Love the signed jersey too.
LTD, you're the expert here, and I'm probably answering my own questions given the personalities, That signed jersey has to be #15's eh? I thought during the medal ceremony I got a glimpse of him and saw those sigs. I can't imagine #25 going around getting autographs. It would go against (ditz) type.
livinthedream
03-04-2010, 03:35 PM
I'm pretty sure the autographed one belongs to Tuomo. Jarkko has a tradition of getting his jersey signed at every tournament, and I caught a twitpic of his earlier on one of the Finnish sites, so I suspect baby brother is following in his footsteps (as an aside, it is stunning to me how much more media attention Jarkko gets over his brother in Finland, there's no comparison).
Where did you see the medal ceremony? I could never find it. I did find someone in Finland who's trying to burn their broadcast to DVD for me (youtube won't let him post it, copyright violation), but to my knowledge they never broadcast the ceremony on NBC. The front of his jersey isn't autographed in any of the pictures I found from the ceremony, I suspect it was signed afterwards.
And on a related note, here are videos from Tuomo (http://hurricanes.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=684&id=61704), Timmy (http://hurricanes.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=684&id=61704), and Staaly (http://hurricanes.nhl.tv/team/console.jsp?catid=684&id=61704) talking about their Olympic experiences.
I think I mentioned this earlier, but I really don't have a desire to have my pictures taken with the medals either, but I would like to get a picture of my son with them. Oh, and Hoppity too, of course.

That was fun. Good night all around. Bobblehad, check. Pic of medals, check. A Canes win, check.
We still can't get a shutout though, but it was Cullen so I'll let it slide just this once.
I thought Picard and Pothier played good games. IKm not digging Joni playing the full 2 mins on the PP, it started affecting his ES play in the 3rd.
And why I love Timmy: he got the US flag signed by Team USA and sending it off to Afghanistan.
SoCalcaniac
03-04-2010, 10:45 PM
That was a fun time. Really enjoyable to go back to the building and it was crazy insane even as one of the first few in line to take my 3 pictures. The medals are soooooo beautiful. I thought the tribute was nice, I thought the 'Hawks pregame tribute to their medalists/olympians was a bit nicer; but I liked that they wanted to showcase our guys efforts. I honestly think the Finns got the loudest cheer, but Timmy was right there, might be a tie. Very cool that flag that got signed by everyone and is going to Iraq or wait was it Afghanistan. Very neat.
I thought we had moments of bad puck management, but at the same time, OTT was getting sticks out there.
Chris Neil is a punk fool. He elbowed Joni's head and it was cheap.
I enjoyed watching the 4th line of Boychuk/Brind 'Amour/TommyK - they played real well.
Our PP looked "Confused" I really don't know why Joni's shifts are going wayyyyy long. This PP situation is way too lengthy. I swear he was out there for 2 whole min. I liked Pothier out there. He's got something about him. Picard had a good game and so did Harrison. BRAVO Manny. Nice game.
Excellent crowd. and once again, we could have won one of those Lotto prize packs- they called our seat/row again, and again it was ONE section over.
Best part of my night--- Seeing Canesluver up and out and ready to enjoy the game. Made my night for sure. YEAH CL!
Another highlight, FINALLY seeing LTD on the video board. She's a rover like Joni, and makes her way around down there, and she's never been caught on camera at length. the Ruu jersey looked good on camera. ;)

What an awesome game! Chased the goalie after 6.5 minutes, lots of Olympic love (LTD - assuming you got WAY better pictures of the medals/jerseys than my blackberry did - any chance you could share...pretty please), and every goal scored by a 2010 Cane (you KNEW Cullen would score on us & blow the shutout...)
Thought we played 2 great periods of hockey and a solid enough 3rd. It's amazing to see players wearing #5 and #45 actually moving the puck and taking shots!
Thought Jussi had 4 almost goals tonight and a great game. Love that the 3 stars were 2 fourth liners (one of whom was Brindy so bonus love) and the "backup" goaltender. Good heart game. Looked like poor Boychuk was running into brick walls every time he entered the zone (like Rosey ((AWESOME GOAL ON THE STAAL FEED)) he seems smaller than everyone else!
Great backhanders on both TomK & Brindy's goals.
Liked the work ethic - kids played well - PP sucked but what else is new. At least the defense look great tonight including Mr USA of course.
What was up with the melee at the very end - will have to see Greensboro's clip for a replay on that. Looked like Neal took a cheap shot and Staal came in to kill him then all hell broke loose.
Fun Fun Fun for Lucky 7. When are they going to mail out the playoff selection sheets :evil::lol::lol::laugh::laugh:
ETA: SoCal - thanks for clarifying - I saw the elbow but not who it hit. Forgot to mention good to see Dancing Granny tonight!

That was indeed fun!
I'm really impressed at the number of defensive bodies that were exchanged and the team stepped up along with Manny and kept the puck out of the net!
The medal viewing was a Zoo - don't know if it let up between periods.
The lighting was aw-ful (dark as a whole and the top part of the jerseys were in shadow), I bet LTD has better photos - but I thought I'd post this. I never was able to get into a good position to get Tim's without shaking my camera it seemed (and I forgot to shoot in raw so I can't fix them as well as I'd like).

From where I sat it looked like Neil got Joni with the butt of his stick after they'd exchanged some clean shoves.
I think Staal was hurting tonight. I'm sure he's exhausted to begin with, but I think he got hit with a puck in the 1st and then he got hit from behind and/or slew footed (by Jarko) late in the 2nd. He seemed like he was wincing a few times and moving differently than normal.

After we had 3 I said they could have one goal if Cully scored it so, cool with me.
Now, we only need to win 14 of the remaining 19 to have a chance of making the playoffs!

E, great pics. Mine turned out, but like you said, it was SO dark. and it was an incredible zoo. We were at the front of the line maybe 10-15 back when the doors opened, and there were people hanging over the barriers taking pics from out away from the line, and the line was already snaking behind us. Our seatmates decided to go during the first intermission and it was a a ZOO and a SCENE. They said it seemed like a bit of a free for all.
While I was waiting I got to get a good luck at the bronze and silver and #15's signed jersey. They looked so nice. When I got up there, they didn't allow me to take my pictures one of the Canes staffers did it, he did ok. I did end up getting one on my camera phone too, so I actually have 5 pictures. I didn't like that the jerseys were not all close to each other. I get they wanted a spot for people to get in the middle and be flanked by the jerseys/medals, but it made for tricky picture taking.
ETA: Neil hammered Joni in the head. Saw it clear as day as it was right in front of our section. I think Eric lost his mind going after Neil; our neighbor was screaming "Get away from him Eric!" :0 and he did get hurt when he took a in the shin (I think) in the first. The way he was hopping back to the bench, was concerning. I do think he's running on empty- that line seemed just a touch off- missed passes and such, and I kinda thought #12 hit the wall like the Blackhawks olympians did the other night on Long Island.

that's all easton white helmets. they're far BRIGHTER and WHITER. lol. same thing with the quick blade holder Wally has Sutter and Kostopolous on
and good for Staal for getting in Neil's face for the rough to Pitkanen. nothing bad by Neil, but it's pointless, and a message that it was dumb as hell needed to be sent. Not by way of ass kicking, but it was clear that this wasnt acceptable. Thats what i want to see from him when he's wearing the C. his hands are too valuable to fight, but he sure as **** can face wash a guy for being a douche. little things like that make me happy.
Also, props to Kerry Fraser for applauding Staal's medal. Gleason he was talking to during his announcement, and the fins i didnt even catch, but he stood in the crease looking up and applauded. He may not have many friends in the arena, but you gotta give him props for acknowledging an accomplishment during discourse of his duties. He also chatted ray up and ray had him rolling early in the first. I like seeing refs engaged like that. leads to a better game and better respect, IMO.

Fun game to attend for sure.
I clapped for all of our Olympians (of course), but Staal got the shortest cheering from me and Timmy got the longest cheering.
SC06 and I were the first folks in line for the pics with the medals so that was awesome, did not have to wait in the long line. The pic they took looks like it is pretty blurry. Not sure how he accomplished that considering it is an upper end camera that automatically focuses for you.
However, I got some good photos of the medals and the jerseys, which is what I really cared about.
Oh and we were walking by the eye after we got our photo and I saw something green and was like, no way they actually have green St. Patty's day shirts for the Canes this yr. They had several players, but when we saw they had Sutter and Gleason those were no brainers on the "gotta have" shirts.

The "twilight's last Gleason" thing was GREAT. At first, I thought I was hearing things- did it come from the other side of the building? (we're in 121) it seemed like it was coming from the 116/117 upper bowl side of the bldg. Our fans have decided to do the Idol thing, and make the Anthem their own, hehee.
There seemed to be alot of mini chants and things being shouted, it just seemed like there was this buzz-y type thing going on in the 2 sections surrounding us. I didn't hear the curling chants, although Mr. Socal wondered "What was going on upstairs in 328" but I bet that was quite a scene.

This was the first hit on youtube. It's got music and not enough yelling, but you get the idea.

The "haaaaard" was hysterical when yelled if there was a free puck and a Cane was racing to try to get it.
edit: here's one where they cover a bunch of the things they yell in 1 shot:

I like the "yup.....yup.....yup" which they don't do , but the "HHAAAAAAAAAAAARD" just makes me laugh thinking about it.

LMAO I made the Flavor of the Game.
When I watched the Flavor, I screamed at my hubby, "THAT'S LTD! THE RUU FAN!" Congrats. Now I know who to look for to steal your Suomi sweater. ;)
And thanks for the pictures. I can't wait to go through them. And now that I have, they're great, of course! I love the shot of Jussi taking the shot in warmups. And Tuomo with his lips sucked in. But it's so odd to see Matty in that odd sweater. :( They did great with the medals. Nice display.

I love you.
:D
Thanks so much for posting, I saw the interview but couldn't hear anything in the arena.
ETA Now having watched it, how typical Tuomo that he was the one singled out for a doping test, sad he missed seeing his friend skate though.
