Hmm Happy for Scotty to get a true chance at the cup but.... I really dislike the capitals...

Still hate the Caps but if he gets his shot at the SC then...well, I'll be glad for Walker.
In memorandum:
HE'LL PUNCH YOU IN THE FxxxING FACE
THEN END YOUR FxxxING SEASON
HE'S SCOTTY FxxxING WALKER!
^^ I forgot who came up with that, but I say that to all my Bruins-fan friends when they start talking hockey, haha.

For a 7th round pick per Wash Post.

think this is washington looking for a versatile guy who will fight when told to fight, but cant actually do other things.
after jansen did his crap, and downie/ovie... its a needed role.

Gotta say i'd have expected more than a 7th-rounder, but it cuts some salary and frees a roster spot. Yay team.

Class move by JR to find a home for a classy guy that deserves a shot at hoisting the Cup. I don't care if we got a bag of pucks or some expired Hardee's coupons as long as Scotty got a shot.

I'm bummed we lose Scotty Walker; but happy that he'll at least get a chance to go deep. Walker had his first taste of a long playoff run just last year, so he at least deserves a shot just like any other veteran dude looking for the--- as they say in hockey speak;last kick at the can. It's a bummer cause he's been good for the Canes. But it's hockey.
This tweet from Chip was a real kicker:
Walker very emotional about leaving. Gave Rod Brind'Amour a big hug and handshake.
I'm really glad I wasn't able to go to practice today. You always have that sense of dread on this day.

Those tweets from Chip are making me sad.
I hate Washington, but I'm glad Walker has got a chance at achieving his dream. Washington has a real good shot (as long as that goaltending hangs in there) at winning it all, and I'd love to see Walker win it. Wish it was with us, but he deserves to lift that big shiny thing over his hand.
Good luck Walker.

Yeah E & KF, this is what I'm talking about- the emotional part of seeing guys your REALLY like go away.
This is tough.
Best of Luck Scotty!

Awww Scotty on TSN: "I appreciated Jimmy putting it together for me, he's been.....too good to me".
But I wish Duthie would let the "won the lottery" quote from Wallin go - he's used it on a few players.
BrooklynCaniac
03-03-2010, 01:06 PM
Scotty is old school and you need a guy like that in the playoffs. If he was healthy over the last couple seasons we probably would have done better than a 7th round pick. I always loved his hard nosed style of play.
SoCalcaniac
03-03-2010, 01:07 PM
Yeah, that "he's been good to me.... too good" sounded so heartfelt.
On Duthie: He can't seem to get out of Vancouver/Olympic mode- 1st time he referenced "Winning the Lottery" and Wallin, he said "Last year when they traded for Wallin..." and now he says "In January". Dude, get some sleep, you're clearly Gold Medal Game hung over.
Interesting tidbit on Scotty and McPhee having history back to Vancouver when he played there and McPhee was the Asst. GM. Hockey is such a small world.

I get that this starts to have to happen. I really try to get that, at least. But a 7th round pick? I know Scotty's market isn't a stack of firsts, so my random gut feeling is that JR took less than he could absolutely get (say, a 5th?) so that Scotty stays close to home.

Luckily the exchange between him and Brind'Amour (and all the others) happened off the ice. I had my head turned in one direction, turned back around, and Scotty was headed off with the Coach, with the media not far behind. Unless I completely missed it, he never came back out, and most of the guys left shortly thereafter (VERY short practice today) so you didn't see a lot of emotion out there.
I'll miss Scott Walker big time, he's a top shelf person and a great teammate. But I am glad he gets his chance to play on this season. He deserves that shot at a Cup run.

Yeah, I didn't expect the exchange would happen on ice, I was speaking more to the general "vibe" around the "big deadline day". In the past, as I recall, the air seemed heavy, guys looked stressed out. I think they were clearly more prepared, knowing the whole situation. But in the past, those were also longer practices, and it sounded like from the tweets they were done in 20-30 minutes.
I agree with the rest FinFan, don't "feel sorry" for Walker. He had the NTC, he had a conversation with JR about going to "a contender" the other stuff, having to leave these guys, who clearly he is close with, makes the joy and thrill of being traded a little bittersweet. (Plus, He clearly sounded very joyful and thrilled on TSN in his car, lol)
Good luck Scotty!

Good for Scottie, and good for the Canes. I'd wish Walker good luck but I "hate the Caps, hate the Caps, hate the Caps" so....
A ton of $real $money saved on salary between now and the end of the season with the 4 guys moved.
And in other news, I'm (finally, says my daughter!) venturing beyond message boards and doing the Facebook thing now too.... I made the mistake of reading the Canes page and comments regarding the trades today.... what a bunch o' maroons over there. Never heard so much hand-wringing and whining and kvetching over such a simple thing. Not sure if I'll bother clicking on that "Comments" link anymore.

^^ SoCal, the vibe was TOTALLY different today. Surprisingly so. Practice itself wasn't uptempo, they barely did anything structured, but the mood was very light. Lots of smiling and laughing and goofing around.

It makes me often think out loud (reading the comments on the FB page) is our Fan Base as idiotic as they appear? Sooooo many times I read stuff and say to myself, do these people even follow this team on a regular basis? half of the time it seems like they've fallen off the turnip truck when they discover some random post that the Canes put up there. It's quite an adventure to read that mess for sure. I'm like randakk- I should've stepped away and not bothered, but it's so of that rubber neck thing for me; just can't help but look.

Word. Unless by some miracle we can still crawl back into the mix :), I definitely will be rooting for the Caps (Walker, Corvo, not so much Belanger but OK), the Sens (Cullen), the Ducks (AWard), the Sharks (Wallin), the Blackhawks (Ladd), the Avs (Yelle), the Canucks (Alberts), the Wings (Eaves), the Kings (Justin Williams is supposed to be back from another brutal injury by the end of the month), the Flyers (Leighton) all the places where recently (and even not-so-recently, say, Seids up in Beantown, Craig Adams in Pittsburgh) ex-Canes are playing. Hell I'll root for the Panthers (Stillman) if they make it.
But the softest spot in terms of Cup-rooting is for Walker by far. Dude has given his heart and soul to this sport.

In his telephone interview with TSN yesterday, Walker has a history with George McPhee dating back to juniors and then in Vancouver. McPhee was in the front office when the Canucks drafted Walker. It appears that Rutherford and McPhee may have worked together to help out a good warrior.

How adorable!
I have to say that when we went to the Caps game, we took the Metro briefly while we were touring around during the day, but we could have walked to the game, but one of my kids begged to use the Metro again so he could be like a 'city kid'.

We use the Metro whenever we got to DC. Best way to get around, really. Do the same in Atlanta. Stay outside of the big city and drive to one of the outer parking areas and ride around all day. Glad to see Scotty's taking advantage of that. Love that he has to "put the teeth in".
