I'm enjoying seeing the guys find their confidence, and providing some entertaining hockey. No matter what happens, I'm liking the team right now. :D

So, Chip was at practice today but I don't think he tweeted anything other than the goalie situation - Pete Dawg in net for this game and Manny on Sunday.
Practice was optional so it was a light turnout at the RecZone and mostly just skating and passing drills with Tom Rowe. The guys were out there for a good hour and a half though before it broke up. I think I have everyone:
6 forwards - Brandon, Tuomo, Dwyer, TKO, Brindy, Boychuk
4 defencemen - Pothier, Picard, Carson, Harrison
Peters and Manny
Manny took most of the practice drills and Barrasso spent a lot of time one-on-one with Justin.
Timmy and Sergei were walking into the building as I was but neither were on the ice. I saw someone leaving as I was driving up, and I'm thinking it might have been Cam but I can't be certain. The Canes had the ice at 11:00 am but practice was pushed back to noon, so maybe he was out there early?
Other than that not much to report, except I haven't posted this in a while, looks like they're on the way to south Florida!

CL, I'm glad to see you starting up the Game Day Threads again! You've been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard about your ordeal.
I hope I can find the game on TV tomorrow night or I will be stuck getting updates from y'alls Jeckle and Hyde posts here. :) If I remember correctly NOC does get FSN on their direct TV package. And since I am the only one staying in the 10 bedroom Cabin/Motel D at NOC I don't think I will have a problem taking control of the TV in the common area. :) There's nothing better than a day of kayaking/getting a beat down followed by Hurricanes Hockey. Well maybe not much better. :)
Go Canes!!!!

From Luke's friend George Richards:
The Panthers acquired Bitz, Craig Weller and a second-round draft pick in Wednesday's trade with the Bruins. Bitz didn't play in Boston's loss to Montreal on Tuesday, so his last NHL game to date was Feb. 13. On Saturday, Bitz puts on his new colors for the first time -- even though he seems to know the Panthers pretty well.
``I was a little surprised when it happened, although I hadn't been playing all that much,'' Bitz said about being traded. ``It's probably the best thing for me. I'm going to get an opportunity here. I'm pretty excited to be here. I think it's a great fit.''
In Friday's practice in Coral Springs, Bitz found himself on Florida's second line along with center Steven Reinprecht and Cory Stillman. Bitz hadn't been playing a whole lot with the Bruins, but the Panthers appear ready to give him an opportunity -- real quick. In 80 career games, Bitz has eight goals and eight assists. Bitz has nine points in 45 games with Boston this season.
HURRICANE WARNING
Not too long ago, the Carolina Hurricanes -- Florida's opponent Saturday in Sunrise -- were languishing after losing 17 of their first 20 games. But Carolina has won seven in a row and has pulled to within a point of the Panthers for fourth place in the division.
``They may be the hottest team in the league,'' DeBoer said. ``I thought they really outplayed us in Carolina before the Olympic break.''
• DeBoer said he thinks David Booth is back. Booth missed 45 games after sustaining a concussion Oct. 24 and failed to score in his first eight games back. After the two-week Olympic break, Booth has goals in both games. ``We saw a few glimpses when he first came back,'' DeBoer said. ``The break helped him more than anyone.''

This is what needs to happen today.
We need to beat Florida.
Tampa needs to beat Atlanta.
Boston needs to beat NYI.
Kings need to beat Habs.
Tomorrow, we have to take care of business in Atlanta.
I can't believe I'm even entertaining this kind of thinking, but it's all I have.

Yeah, I feel pretty sick that I've talked myself into leapfrogging 6 teams to make the playoffs...this 7 game win streak is messing with my head methinks

I'll be the first to say that it's still a huge hole to crawl out of. If we can take two this weekend, I'll start to entertain the thought, but not until then. Today and tomorrow are 2 of the teams that we'd have to overtake. We can't afford to give any back if there is any hope.

at the end of the day it gives us something to cheer about, tho the odds are against us I like this better than cheering "welcome to moe's" every time the other team scored and when we lost.

Nice job by Harrison!!
And now...WAY TO GO PETERS!!!
Is that him I'm hearing barking all the time so far? Someone is being incredibly vocal.

Yeah, Pete Dawg is pretty vocal from what I hear from my Albany peeps.
He looks good so far.
LOL at Crockett and Tubbs.

Yeah, I'd heard he was vocal (and heard some of it myself) which is why I suspected the constant barking voice had to be him. It's cracking me up.
Did everyone hear the guy who called the post game Thursday night and said he did the math during the Oly break and if every team in the league plays their next 20 like they did their last 10 we'd finish at #7?

Wouldn't take much to convince me.
I was supposed to be out of town this weekend but my plans got cancelled. Otherwise I would have been there.
That being said, Monday is my son's birthday. Might be difficult. I would have to literally consider down and right back.

That's the only way I've ever done the Atlanta trip. I've probably been down there a dozen times and the only time I stayed overnight was in between the Skill Competition and the ASG in 08.
I was gonna do this one, but the Orioles 1st televised spring training game is tomorrow and I really don't want to miss it.

We've got a few days off here because we were supposed to be in Denver for two Avs games this week but decided to put it off to save for Finland in the fall. We've talked about probably 5 different short trips over the past few days....and have yet to pull the trigger on anything. This Atlanta thing is sorta intriguing me at the moment.

Mr SHC is on some Thrashers message board and they seem to be saying that the JumboTron feed will be shown. According to them, it was a tentative NBC game but got bumped for Detroit, shock of all shock I know.
No idea how reliable that is but, there you have it.
Maybe nhl_canes could find out and tweet about it for us?

He'll have another one next year. ;) I know I'm a lot closer to Atlanta right now than y'all are. I just don't know if I can get there from here with all of the rockslides around here. Plus I'd hate to leave my kayak on the Jeep in Atlanta while I was at the game. And OMG I don't even want to think about leaving my wet gear in the Jeep. :) It might get a little smelly.
Tonight the Canes look like they forgot they had to play. Our PP looks horrendous. However, we did lose a big part of it back before the Olympics. But still they had almost 2 minutes 5 on 3 and nothing.

When I saw that listed as an NBC game at the beginning of the season I was resigned to the fact that it would be a dark game. I was pleasantly surprised to see it show up on the guide.

Same here KB. My money either goes to playoffs or Finland and since Finland is a once in a lifetime opportunity, I have to choose Finland.
