Since former 'Canes love to score on us, we should have a wager to see if Scotty scores in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd period. Any takers??!!

I'm taking Corvo on the PP :D
And I would like to help the Caps start a new home streak, a losing one at that. Let's help them to their 2nd straight lose at home.

I was telling SoCal at practice... I'd love to be able to find a way to get myself to DC for a "customer meeting" tomorrow afternoon.
If we weren't right back here on Thursday night I do believe I would have scrounged up something.

Scotty gets a gordie Howe hattrick,... he drops the gloves in the 1st, assists in the 2nd, and scores the game winner in the 3rd. How many times have we been scored by former Canes? Stillman, Recchi, Sami have all feasted on us, hell even Tanabe scored on us as a B.

^If he plays. He was a healthy scratch last night. The Caps have such a surplus of bodies that they had five healthy scratches.

^ I wish we could say that.
But yeah, Scotty will probably, if he plays, score. It's hard seeing him and Corvo playing in those red and blue unis. At least they are playing tonight so they will be coming in tired.

03-10-2010, 08:44 AM
They played Monday night not Tuesday night and they played at home so they probably won't be tired. Plus they'll be fired up because they lost on Monday night and you know the Capitals aren't ever supposed to lose. I laughed right out loud on Monday night when one of the broadcast guys mentioned the "looks of concern on the faces of the Caps fans" when the Caps were trailing. I mean, really. Concern? The Caps have 13 more points than anybody else in the East and they had just won a bajillion games in a row at home. Losing a game here and there certainly isn't going to hurt them.
Sparky
03-10-2010, 09:25 AM
Hey all! Hope everyone's doing well, and here's to a good clean game tonight.
I think the looks of concern aren't so much for a loss, but for the method of losing: PK collapse at home, inability to finish chances, goaltending shaky late in games, defensive breakdowns. None bode well for the playoffs, but there's still time!
If Corvo gets one for the Caps, Pothier will get one for the Canes, guaranteed. Which net they'll each score into is the question, though... :)
Cheers!

The bold is going to be the Caps demise, IMO. I think they have a great team, but if I was a Caps fan, I wouldn't be feeling too great with my goalies. I think they should have went out and got a goalie at the deadline. But we'll see what happens.
All I care about today though is whoever is the Caps goalie has a bad night :D

So what's Osala's number gonna be? 7? Get it OO7?

Happy Game Day ya'll......
Yeah for the 4 Finns! Good for Osala to get the call. Wonder what's up with Cole; LTD, he looked ok during practice yesterday to me; did you notice anything?
Whoa... he's 6'4". Wow, can't wait to see him beside Staal.
Why would Osala be next to Staal when he's already got a Finn there and Cole hasn't played with Erik in forever? Or did you mean they are about the same height- (although I think #12 is now closer to 6'5)
I'm with KF. The Caps are not unlike the Hawks---- gonna rue the day they didn't seriously consider getting a goalie at the deadline. The situation (for both teams, but tonight, specifically against the Caps) is El Brutal.
This is gonna be a big ol' "Ex" party. and we're officially at Finn capacity. ;)

I wanna see the same thing. Like DET when Babcock has rolled out his Swedes on the PP -- Lindstrom/Kronwall/Zetterberg/Franzen/Holmstrom I remember last year during the Finals, he had them out there and toolbox, I mean Pierre interviewed Babcock on the bench and says "Going for broke with the All Swede PP unit?" and Babcock says in that deadpan of his, Would you go against Team Sweden? I think we should think the same for our Finns.

SoCal, I noticed nothing wrong with Cole yesterday at practice, he seemed perfectly fine to me and in good spirits (and photographic evidence supports that as well), so who knows? And I was just reminded how he owns Theodore, so if the Caps weren't planning to start Jose tonight they probably are now.
And I wish no ill on Cole AT ALL, I hope whatever he has is short-lived, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited to see another Finn on the ice tonight (and tomorrow here in our barn for that matter).
Chip just tweeted that he didn't make it in time for the pre-game skate. According to him O2 and Sergei will be on Brindy's line. Guess that means TKO, Zach, and Dwyer together and top two lines staying the same?
ETAA and as SoCal just tweeted, Ronnie's filling the gap on the fourth line in practice.

Saw this posted on HF. Interesting
Cole fell ill last night after traveling with the Hurricanes up to Washington, D.C. No other details about the nature of his illness were immediately available, but Canes beat writer Chip Alexander reports from Washington, D.C., that it's unlikely that Cole will fly back with the team tonight after the game.
Very weird. Wonder if they just want to keep him away from the team, or if its something a bit more.

Chip just tweeted that Cole has flu-like symptoms.

Mo says (per Chip) Erik has "flu-like" symptoms, not believed to be H1N1. They're just being cautious. Not surprised. A lot has been going around lately. The State men's team had it rip through them a couple of weeks ago.
Okay, I just thought of something really bad, but I like it.
Hopefully OV (or whoever is in goal) will be singing this tonight... "Finns to the left, Finns to the right and you're the only Cap in town!"

Blame this on the Sens who were here with dudes who were all sick as dogs. It's crazy- LTD mentioned this when I asked; but Cole looked great yesterday - very chatty with guys and then kinda snarly in the scrimmage like he was feeling good. I don't know how quickly H1N1 makes people turn, but he seemed to be well.
I'm sitting in the lobby of my allergy doc's office getting ready to gear up for allergy season; and they have NHL Network on cause my doc is a huge hockey fan. Anyway, they just showed the preview during the commercial break of the Canes/Caps game and they highlighted our #6 (clip of him saluting our crowd taking off his helmet-- looked like when he was one of the 3 stars) "Watch as Team USA and Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason take on the high flying Capitals......." usually it's the obvious guys- #12 or #13 or even #17. Was nice to see Timmy get a bit of a shout.

Any flu hits you like a Mack truck. You're fine one minute and on your a** the next. I remember the first time I ever had the real flu....I got up in the morning feeling fine, went outside and shoveled snow feeling fine the entire time, and by the time I had my coat off once I got back inside I thought I was dying.

Poor #26. I hope he's feeling better soon.
What is it about a guy getting called up that seems to add something the game day? I hope Osala gets some meaningful minutes.

I will not be able to watch the game tonight. Why? Not because I have something else to do; not because our TV is not working but because Center Ice on Comcast IS NOT AIRING THE GAME. This NEVER happened when we had Dish. The only reason we switched to Comcast is because he wanted to have Comcast SportsNet to watch the Trailblazers and Oregon Ducks.
After the week I've had, I did not need this... I'll be listening to Chuck K over the net.

Uh, Staal= crashed, burned + Olympics.
The positives- we didn't get killed by WSH, The new Finn kid has some jam to him, the other Finns look good- especially #15; Pothier is continuing to impress and Legace battled. Oh and none of our ex's scored or did anything special against us.
The negatives: Our young D (specifically Picard and sometimes Carson) had moments of looking very overwhelmed by the Caps pressure. Oh and I love how the Caps stole the song that the Hawks have played for the last several seasons when they score goals. As if that annoying siren/watch out the DC police is about to bust down your door thing wasn't bad enough already, they can't even get an original song for when they score goals. Oh, and Jussi Jokinen's line mates can score a goal anytime now. He's carrying you.
and keeping in the positive/negative theme- going back to positive; Overall we played well. We need to keep that in mind as we take on the Pens. Our team just won't fold, and that's all I can ask for.
Let's see how they do tomorrow at home, should be a good game.

There's a comedian writing the game recaps for the AP:
As many goals as the Capitals have scored this season, one would think they'd know how to celebrate. Yet here was the tally after the first period: two goals, two pratfalls.
After Semin scored with his backhand on a breakaway, the Russian wing lost his balance and spun awkwardly like a sausage, a bit of panic in his face as he slid toward the boards.
Then, when Green made it 2-0 with a wrister from the right circle on the power play, the defenseman skated to the corner and completely lost his footing, looking like a first-time skater at a community rink as his body plopped onto the ice.
The Hurricanes got on the scoreboard 18 seconds after Green's goal when Dwyer scooped in a loose puck by the crease. The Carolina's credit, everyone stayed upright during the celebration.
Chad LaRose (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8469812) picked off a pass in the Capitals' defensive zone to set up a 2-on-1 with Ruutu, who tied the score at 2 in the second period. Washington retook the lead when Manny Legace (http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8459308) was screened by at least four people and let Green's wrister get through on a power play. Legace complained in vain for goalie interference, while Green celebrated his second goal of the game by pumping his fist - without falling over

I think SHC will enjoy that bit as evidenced from her posts above. ;)
One would think, given their LARGE margin of goals for, that the Caps players would be able to celebrate upright and to add to that, celebrate period. You'd think they've not done this before. Fauxhawk did look like a peewee scoring for the first time in facial expression an demeanor; and Semin, he's a flopper anyway so I'd expect he can't stay on his skates unless he's trying to slash someone's hand off.

^You would be right!! Every single goal they act like it's a game winner in game 7 of the SCFs! That's the ONLY time it's OK to make that much of a jacka** of yourself!
LMAO. I was DYING during that game when they were flailing around like that after their goals.

Or in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals? I thought the last one of those we saw was pretty acceptable. ;)

You know, I actually don't mind it. When I played hockey I'd go freakin' BANANAs if I scored. When playing a game, exuberance is acceptable, maybe even expected.

I'm on Team Act Like You've Been Here Before Because You Have. I've thought for a couple of seasons that Washington's celebrations were a bit overdone. Unless it's a special occasion (playoff-game winning goal, first NHL goal, hat trick goal), throwing yourself against the glass or failing to stay upright makes you a d'bag.
I get it -- it's a game, have fun, it's exciting to score, it's great for the fans. But I see it and I think, "God, it'd be like having sex with a 40-year-old virgin every time."
