Say for instance, that a company's emplyees had yesterday off. The employees must attend a meeting this Saturday. The employees will not be paid for the meeting, but if they do not go to Saturday's meeting, they will not get paid for Labor Day which was a paid holiday. Does anyone know if that is legal?

If you would normally get paid for the holiday, than that is definitely illegal. Furthermore, If it is considered the same work week, and you would normally get paid for labor day, and you exceed 40 hours in the workweek (with the holiday) you are eligible for overtime (assuming you are non-exempt, which you must be if this is a question).
(It would be a breach of contract from the employer though, not a Department of Labor issue, they say you don't have to pay for time not worked even if it is a federal holiday)

Just an FYI, the 40 hour rule on overtime is for hours actually worked. Each company can set an overtime policy that excludes holidays, vacation, sick, etc. from the hours used to calculate overtime. I worked for one company that only excluded sick time from overtime, but more and more companies are now excluding all time off, paid or not, from their overtime calculations. as a cost saving measure
As far as not getting paid for going in on saturday, if you are a non-exempt emplyee, if you work, your employer is required to pay you for it.
