The 2010 Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic for Cancer Research is coming up in a few weeks, on Sunday, August 22nd. For the second year the event will be held at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the NC State campus.

Details about the event and other activities (which begin on August 14th) can be found at the Jimmy V Golf (http://www.golfclassic.org/) site.

You can also follow them on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jimmy-V-Celebrity-Golf-Classic/38454001033?ref=s).

The list of celebrity participants can be found here (http://www.golfclassic.org/celebrities.php), and will be updated regularly over the next few weeks. Lots of local and national sports, media, and other celebrities. There are usually quite a few Hurricanes players who participate, including the "locals" who stay in the area during the off-season like Brindy, Chad, Erik Cole and Joe Corvo. None of them have signed up yet although Cole is in the promo ad. Ex-Cane Bates Battaglia is a regular and is signed up again this year along with John Forslund. Oh, and Ric Flair. Woooooo!

SoCal, CL and I went last year and had a really great time. The event itself was not crowded, and we were able to walk a majority of the course and meet most of the celebrities in a very laid-back atmosphere. Given the time of year, it's always a scorcher so you definitely need to plan accordingly. Additional spectator information can be found here (http://www.golfclassic.org/spectator-tourn-info.html).

Tickets are a bargain at $5 each. They are on sale now through Ticketmaster, and I believe there may be some venues around town where you can also pick them up. There was some confusion last year about whether or not tickets could be purchased at the event, and there were plenty available there. I don't know if that will be the situation again this year.

Great event for a great man and a great cause.

I'm not missin' out this year. Will probably be a 'day of' decision
for whether or not the hubby attends, too.

I haven't been to the V since the summer of '06. I can't imagine going unless an artic mass moves in just before the event.

It's loads of fun, but so freakin' hot. (Being as hot as it's been doesn't help).

Plus, I don't have my kids of the age that care about going anymore and that was part of my fun.

I hope the V makes as much money as it used to, it seem like it's gone thru some changes over the years - seems like there was a TON of people out at Prestonwood back in the day using all 3 courses - though I realize that the corporate sponsorship and other events are the big dollars.

I was looking at the Raleigh Amphitheater site and somehow noticed the V stuff coming up (nothing is at the amphiteather, but their reverse raffle is at the convention ctr) and noticed that the "locals" are indeed listed now:

Cole
Corvo
LaRose
Brindy
JR
Forslund
Kaiton

And for you "Bachelor/Bachelorette" fan - Chris Harrison and Chris Lambton (recent contestant) are scheduled.

And for you Idol fans - Anoop Desai is on the list too.

It was a nice day over at Lonnie Poole golf course and the V. It got super humid and hotter as the day wore on, but the event was nice and we managed to get through all of the Canes players and Forslund & Chuck K, before they called it for the spectators due to the crazy storm looming.

Highlight for me- Seeing the new Bromancers - Cole & Corvo in some crazy shorts. Corvo's were OVER the top. Big dots, wild colors, lol. 5 minutes after he came up on the hole we were camped at, a lady from the next group (a V volunteer) was wearing a skort in the same fabric!

Joe said he was thrilled to be back when I offered my welcome back; and he was actually kinda "chatty" with fans. (As chatty as Joe could really be, lol) Cole was his usual extremely fan friendly self- signing and taking pics with all who asked and doing his "did I miss anyone" before he got shuffled off by the V volunteer. Chad was Chad, and we got a chance to chat with his dad Grant, who was laying low and enjoying his son, having fun at a golf tourney. Scott Walker and Bates Battaglia seemed genuinely happy to be in the mix- Scotty did an interview with a Golf webcast, and even recorded a commercial spot before the shotgun start. #17 has this totally different aura about him- happy go lucky (?) and maybe a little less 'serious' like we've come to know him. He seemed to be having a blast.

LTD was my partner in crime, and as usual had her camera in tow- so the pics of shorts and players has to wait as I had not one, but two camera malfunctions (my Droid AND my Canon :ticked::ticked:) left me with only a few snapshots. But I will share this that did make the cut- it makes me giggle because Chad was so desperately trying to be tall.

In the 'interesting' dept: the guys from the Bachelor (don't watch the show, so I only know bits about it) they seemed to think they were in L.A. still, lol. Lots of schmoozing with the female fans in the audience, and the Hooters girls at one of the hospitality tents on the course.:lol: They were at one point riding around with Chris Harrison, the host of the Bachelor, who I prefer to remember from his HGTV hosting days; but then LTD and I saw them roaming.... no golf carts, no Chris. ;)

I told LTD while we were hiking the course, how different things are from years past. So few celebs, even less in the spectator dept. Kinda sad given how, used to be when this thing was at Preston, you had to high tail it to the hole you wanted to see celebs at, and the ability to move freely was challenging, especially when it came to autographs and pics. Lines were everywhere- and that's not the case now. LTD made a good point as we yakked - if not for the Canes fans, there'd be even less people attending. You can spot a Canes fan all over that event, tees, bags, hats, etc. they're all out there. Maybe another year to get the Lonnie Poole course more popular.

Thanks for the recap.

I'm perusing dreamie's photos and love that Bates and his flip flop tradition continues.

And those guys from the Bachelorette (I'm embarrased that I can "correct" you because for some strange reason, I saw much of this season, having never watched it before, and they were in the gaggle of guys vying for the Bachelorette.) are cracking me up. The V has gotten so pop-culture-ish. CH resident Anoop from American Idol and then the guys from Bachelor/Bachelorette. One of them was wearing silly bandz? Please tell me some little girl gave him that.

I do wish it was as big a deal as it used to be. Guess that year (or was it 2?) in Pinehurst didn't help.

LTD, awesome pics (saw posted on flickr)

Cole and Corvo's shorts were hurting my eyes. Wonder if they went shopping together
