Chip is in PHX... oh lord.

So is LostTexan who sounds like he is having a blast; So I hope he gets a win in PHX.

The Twitter noise besides the whole Rypien suspension stuff is that PHX's game vs LA last night drew 6K+ last night. VERY SAD. @biznasty2point0 tweeted last night apparently kinda like a call out- as if to say where are the fans. Ray Whitney must be feeling like he flashed back his career & his stops in FLA & CLB. Surely a flashback.

I'm still of the mind that we had a whole lot of positives vs the Kings and this is it for this long and winding road trip. Like CL says- end with a BANG.

Oh, and more goals from the Skinner Kid. :0

I flipped to the game for awhile and thought the attendance was embarrassing even by Phoenix/Florida/Atlanta standards. One shooting end in the lower level was three quarters empty.

So I knew Sutter wasn't 100%

Spirited workout in the desert! Samsonov could play. Sutter does not appear to be at full strength. He did practice. Later

Won't be surprised to hear after the morning skate that Samsonov is in and Sutter is out.

It's a beautiful morning out here in Glendale.

News from Chipper on twitter which I'm not thrilled with is that O'Sullivan is out and Samsonov is in. Why does Mo keep jerking him O'Sullivan around? He needs to be top 9 to have a chance to score, don't put him on the 4th line and don't put him in the press box. But we'll see what happens.

The ONLY thing that prevents me from tantrum with that news is who else would you sit?

I wouldn't sit TKo or Dwyer because they kill so well. Dalpe and Bowman...I might like O'Sullivan better but they need to develop, the don't hurt us, and they're only going to get tiny amounts of ice time anyway so, might as well be them rather than O'Sullivan (he needs a nickname BAD but I'm resisting Sully, and that's all I have right now) because I agree, no reason for him to be on the 4th line.

It probably came down to O'Sullivan or Sutter. Once Mo decided that Sutter was healthy/strong enough to play, O'Sullivan was the logical choice, for all the reasons you stated. Realistically, if O'Sullivan isn't going to be in the top 9, there is no sense dressing him.

Agree with this.

And it also might be the team wanting to get a last look at Dalpe and Bowman before making a decision on whether they will benefit here with the big club getting limited minutes or in Charlotte getting alot of minutes.

I'm assuming once they finally get back home, a forward is heading to Charlotte.

Don't forget that Tlusty has to come back from Charlotte in a couple of days, so that increases the chances of Dalpe or Bowman being sent down.

That's a very good point. I guess I didn't really think that far because you obviously want Sutter in assuming he's healthy enough.

Contract type and salary is a lot of what influences the decison to make O'Sullivan the scratch. Besides, there's really not that much difference in type of players between Sammy and Sully.

Redeye. It would be at wakeup time here. There is a US Airways flight that leaves Phoenix at 11:15 and gets to Charlotte at 6 am. So figure aboout an hour or more later departure and a little longer to Raleigh, and you can have your morning coffee at the airport.

You have got to be freaking kidding me... 3 minutes to go and 2 points, now OT. Again the 2nd goal collapse within 1 min of the 1st goal. I had hoped that style of play wasn't going to come back this season. Is the game on tv anywhere? Center Ice on dish has it blacked out.

Perfect pass by the ditz on that winning goal. And was nice seeing the 2 guys who catch the most crap factor in that. Good seeing the smiles on Joni and Babs there.

4-3-0, 8pts, have to say, i'm impressed, coming into the season I was thinking getting 2 wins would be victory

I kinda fell asleep again....long day at the Teeter thanks to some people who "called out."

Missed all the good/bad stuff I guess. Great for Joni and BAAAAAAAABS!!!!!!!!!

I am left to wonder though, will Cam ever get that elusive shutout this year? I swear, it looks like we have the game in the bag and he's getting that love '0' with the way he's playing and then BOOM, the opposing team gets one in.

Also...where is everybody these days? I know the fair is in town but...this place was silent. Game Threads used to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than 2 pages :(

As much as I am not a Mo fan, I will chalk up the last period of this game to being the last period of the road trip... for now. Before the late meltdown, I like the style of play I saw this game and the last 2. I hope they can keep this up. I amazed that Whitney did not score on us...

Solracer
10-24-2010, 09:28 AM
Also..

If Joni can keep playing like he is... I feel better about our defense, it seems he is really getting more involved in the office now that in past years, and the play on the last goal was amazing, what a pass and nice finish by Babs while getting hookeed by #8 of the Yotes.

nccanes
10-24-2010, 09:47 AM
The key for a lot of d is the "keep playing like he is". Consistency is key...and the most difficult for this lot.

Maybe it's just me, but the tying goal was described as a "miscommunication" by Tripp (and @canes_gameday) but was McBain supposed to meet Cam behind the net? Or did Cam just not move the puck fast enough?

Anyway - PHX (and Ray) weren't going to go silently into the night so no surprise the poured it on in the 3rd after a very bad period of theirs. It did make me think about Ray's comparison to his '05-06 team where 3rd periods were certainly amazing.

Good for the guys to close it out in OT.

Plus Canes Country has massive game day threads (would equate to about 30 something pages for the way I have LGC configured, but they use less real estate), but it's look/feel is different than a traditional MB, but I do think people that watch and post simultaneously (which I don't mostly because I used to not even have a tv an computer in 1 room and no laptop) and want a lot of simultaneous interaction post there.

For me personally, the late games have had me prone and under a blanket so I haven't been in front of PC til the next day most times.

Me too. Last night I was watching a college soccer game online at the same time that took me into the 1st intermission and was having trouble just multi-tasking to that extent. Once the soccer game was over, I hit the couch.

I think we'll all be happy to have the team back in Raleigh and mostly in the Eastern time zone! And what a nice day they return to!

Here's my train of conciousness on the game

What a fun game to watch. Man this team is fast (for a change). Rosey is making a case for the top line. Cam is the man, but where were he going when the third goal was scored. Skinner is really good and is holding his own against the big boys. I was yelling at Babs for pinching when he scored the game winner.

I was at a party last night, but otherwise would have been here. And I, too, am Twitless. I'm just not interested in it. But if everything -- including game threads -- gravitates to that sort of medium, then I'll still be sitting here with at least the two of you (ETA: 3! Alicia). You'll recognize me by the walker and by the prominent depends-undergarment bulge in my way-too-high polyester slacks.

Very happy to come home to see the win (and to confirm the win after the alcohol had burned off this morning).

SouthernHockeyChick
10-24-2010, 01:49 PM
Yep, love it for Canes news, practice updates, media info, etc etc.

What I dislike is the personal conversations that result in the "@whoever" tweets that make no sense. I don't follow whoever so I have no freaking clue what someone is responding to so it ends up just being an annoyance.

I follow a few individual players and sort of enjoy when they occasionally tell me where they're having dinner or what movie they're seeing or something but for some random person I could give a crap. I can see the utility of that in some situations but overall I suspect we've bred a generation of folks who think the world at large cares to hear everything they are thinking or doing at every moment of their life.

I drew my social media line at Twitter. There might come a day when I'm forced to accept it, but for now, I live mostly blissfully ignorant of it. When I try to read a Twitter page, I feel like I might as well be trying to read Greek.

I don't have nearly the game insight that most of you do, so my absences i not as notable, but the West Coast games have been a no-go for me this week. I did catch the last couple of periods last night, but I had houseguests for the Marshall-ECU game and we'd just gotten back from Greenville ... and pumpkin custard at Goodberry's. =.)

SoCalcaniac
10-24-2010, 06:14 PM
Ahhh- Come on ya'll- you'd be great on Twitter. It does seem "schizo" at first, but once you get who is speaking to whom, and what is being discussed you're fine.

That said, I do miss yakking with you guys in game threads I gotta get off of Twitter during games. I'll admit during this west coast, post FIN thing, I was mostly in my chaise with my Canes blanket and ready to sleep, and holding my Droid and tweeting was easier than hauling out the laptop- so basically I was being lazy, heehee. I'm also a one msg board gal. I know quite a few peeps on CC, really good folks, just tough for me to go there since this is the board I've been on for basically ever, teeehee.

What a crazy ass game. I could not stop laughing at that dude with the car flags running up the stairs, mostly because he was at the glass and almost every time a Canes skated by he was clapping like some maniac and then we'd score and he'd take off.

The situation in PHX is really sad. It was Saturday night, where the heck is everyone? I spent lots of time in PHX for work when I traveled for my job, PHX isn't that riveting. Nice town, but really.... I do see alot of similarities to our past, the tough draw thing, but this is just difficult to see.

I personally did a whoop and a curse out of Joni last night when he set up that Babs goal - I have made my love for Joni's style and his quirky self well known; it's that play specifically that I think everyone knows he has in him, and hope for him to display- but we get flashes from him. That little passing play was a thing a beauty. All from My Ditz.

I guess the boys wanted to make it interesting. I was hoping for a Cam shut out, wasn't meant to be. I don't know which Joe Corvo Tripp was watching, but he still appears "tired" to me. When I am expecting to be bagging on Jay Harrison and I'm instead questioning WTF is wrong with Corvo that is concerning. I am disappointed my guy Brett Carson never got in and I fully expected him to get sent down today, but really he was just insurance. We'll see him back later I'm sure.

I'm so happy the Canes are back here. I went to Finland, saw them there, but it truly seems like forever since I've seen this team. You gotta give the boys mad credit that they stuck together and kept fighting. I can't wait to see them in a regular eseason game in our new seats in 119. I seriously just can't wait to get in the bldg, who am I kidding? :0

Ahhh- Come on ya'll- you'd be great on Twitter. It does seem "schizo" at first, but once you get who is speaking to whom, and what is being discussed you're fine.

And that's just it. I can't get "who's speaking to whom" unless I'm following that person or flip over to that person's twitter. And sometimes, there's just limited amounts of space to type and it's filled up w/ 3 or for "@" and double and triple #hashtags.

I understand some like it for the convenience of getting something across but...I just don't find it convenient and I don't want my phone going off all day long. I can go to the Canes website to get all their links. Their links pop up on my FB so, really, I don't care about Sundheim's, or Hanlins, or Branecky or who the heck ever's conversations with anyone. Maybe that's just me. I don't know.

Guess I just miss the casual, fun, sometimes heated, discussions and debates. That's what's gone from this board and I know a lot of it has to do with people tired of bringing Mo up all the time.

I'm just sad because it seems like people aren't here anymore :(

nccanes
10-25-2010, 11:49 AM
It probably all depends on how you use twitter or how you use your phone. I turned off all the phone notifications awhile back and I really only use twitter "on demand" on my phone (I have a blackberry). I rarely use it on the computer, because as you say chc, at that point the source of the info is just as easy to use rather than the twitter feed.

If I didn't have a data plan on my phone I'd probably feel the same way.

The discussion/tweets that are 1 sided remind me of how Josh Wolk (entertainment journalist, used to work for ew.com and now work for NYTimes entertainment) described myspace back in the day. He said he tried to use it and decided it was like if I wanted to say something to you I would walk to your office and put a yellow sticky on your desk. Then to reply, you'd walk over to my office and leave the response and on and on. Each communication seems rather "stand alone" to a real conversation. Any 1 sticky note alone was useless.

SoCalcaniac
10-25-2010, 11:54 AM
Ahhhh gotcha. I do think the chatter will pick up here though, now that the team in "back in sight". I do understand what you mean, the conversation is different in here, and I think it's more because we're not all in here as often, but also because it seems (to me anyway) that some of our big contributors have scaled back on visits in here. That can change though. I don't think Twitter is for everyone but I do see it as a useful info tool, and now you don't have to have tweets go to your phone, you just use one of of the 3rd party twitter clients and read everything when you want; those texts to the phone bit got old quick & I had to shut that down quickly or it woulda been nuts, heehee.

BUT like I said, I do think we'll see more activity now that the season is underway. At least I'm hoping that will happen.;)

I think I'm just getting angry at computers and all things electronic in general  because it seems like I never actually "see" people anymore, or even "talk" to people anymore but I can read all about them on FB and Twitter.

So, I really don't want it to sound like I'm whining, and I apologize if it does. I'm Just not in a very good place right now, personally. :(

Geez.........will Wednesday ever get here?

I want to join in on the twitter discussion :)

I'm on twitter, but ONLY to get news. I don't ever respond or tweet myself. I turned off the push notifications cause it was getting a bit overload beeping every 10 seconds letting me know of a new tweet. Now I just click on my twitter app and it will load all new tweets since my last access when I want to know what is going on.

These late games have prevented me from being on here. Even though I'm still on the couch, I'm in my downtime mode and laptop is turned off. I have picked up the ipad to check in but not much was going on.

I do think now that we are back on East Coast and back to regular timed games that it will pick up some.

Am I the only one who sees irony in the fact that SoCal, who is one of the most prolific Canes-related posters on twitter, posts tons of content and discussion there under the moniker representing this very message board (lgc_com), and yet most of the regular posters on the actual board don't seem all that interested in twitter and wonder where all the content is?

I don't know how it's possible to live without twitter. It does feed my apparent case of adult ADHD.

On the bright side, the twitter conversation got the thread to three pages.

Not that I'm ever going to be in the 10000+ post club here, but I'm 99.9% Twitter-free as well and plan on remaining that way.... I have registered there just to test out a couple things and reserve my name-space should I ever change my mind.

Drives me crazy enough when you "like" something (a team, etc..) on Facebook and they post 30 times a day (during the game, etc..) on their Twitter feed....which posts automatically to their Facebook profile, which ends up "Twittering" your FB news feed. I'm real close to banning/ignoring a lot of pages from my news feed to improve the signal/noise ratio.

Twitter was kind of fun, at first, but I've grown weary of it. Sundheim & Shawn Lavigne's are the only two I have going to my phone anymore. Most of the time I forget to look at the Ubbertwitter diary thing, 'cause I can't stand all of the @ and # crap, too.

Mainly, I just don't feel like it's that important to know everything instantly. Just not a priority anymore.

And, CHC-- I feel like you. I miss seeing people face-to-face, rather than relying on FB to know what they're up to.

Agreed! I just "un-liked" the Jussi for All-Star group, 'cause of the annoying posts.

I totally realize SoCal posts under the moniker representing this message board. :D

Maybe traffic will pick up when the games are more East Coast friendly. I just found it odd that after I asked the question, SHC posted that everyone was posting on twitter Sat night. Kinda confused me.

I haven't followed the Jussi group on FB or twitter (I didn't even know there was a FB group) because the only thing that is voted on is the starters, everything else is just the league/team/players figuring out who else should go. So, I'm way too lazy to get involved in any of those efforts. So I don't vote for anyone in the ASG anymore. (And I've never voted for American Idol or DWTS or any of those audience participation shows either, lol)

But - occasionally I will "follow" a beat writer for an opponent, if we're playing on the road. I used to follow George Richards (Miami Herald/Panthers) and then realized his tweets were linked to his FB posts and you had to click the URL to read the rest of the sentence. I mean - what sense does that make? Seems both incomplete AND redundant at the same time.

And honestly, if it weren't for my teenager on FB, I could live without that too.

But LTD and SoCal/lgc_com have too many followers now to look back.

This conversation has turned very interesting. Just from the whole "why don't you/why do you" engage on Twitter/social media, etc.

LTD and SoCal/lgc_com have too many followers now to look back.

I'm stunned at the # of followers, lol. We're near 400- and I've decided I'm giving tickets away when we pass 400. Random games, just to celebrate. But you know, I had that thought while in Helsinki- (how to back out of the twitterverse). Had no idea when Canesluver suggested the Twitter page for LGC that it'd be like this a year later. I do believe LTD when she tells me she doesn't know how it's possible to live without Twitter. I have met alot of really cool people via Twitter, so that's been fun.

I personally think if I wasn't as engaged via LGC, I'd probably not be as involved; I have a personal twitter acct, but it's more around my personal interests in fitness, fashion & my friends around the country and less hockey. I notice there are points in time where I have been twitter weary, lol. Sometimes there are just many discussions that are mind numbing,or just idiotic, like just a a couple hours in the Twitter feed, some racist sent a tweet to @kevinweekes that was so appalling, so hate filled and bigoted; then after the outrage, (Weekes actually retweeted the tweet for all to see) the coward deleted his twitter account. So I get the whole not for me thing. I did, for parts of the summer go "unplugged" no gadgets, no social media etc on Sundays. I kinda liked it.

I'll be interested to see how far things will go with Twitter/social media; and how the posting on MB's changes or differs as we move on.

I'm actually thinking of going offline on that for awhile. A. Just to see if I can and B. Between FB and email, that's the only way my "friends" contact me. God forbid we actually meet up anywhere for drinks and/or dinner anymore.

But LTD and SoCal/lgc_com have too many followers now to look back.

Wouldn't want them to :). Just wondering if the actual letsgocanes.com is going to be a place to come to this season for actual discussion or is everyone just gonna move over to twitter?

Would you like me to post a link on "the board that may not be named"?

Disclaimer: This is a joke folks. Don't get defensive. I'm making a joke at my own expense and not trying to harp on something from the past. This whole twitter discussion is making me all nostalgic. The idea of a ticket giveaway just sends me over the top.

NO WAY! Won't work. The 140 character limit alone is not conducive to real conversations/deep discussion on Joni inexplicably deciding to shoot the puck from the other end of the ice and actual hitting the net.;)

I fully intend to be involved on this board/game day threads when we're at home, I'm at the games, but I'll post in and around that, and all the away games, I'm in. I really do think the disconnect/lack of posting was due to Finland/West Coast roadie.

No thanks. The Twitterverse has a way of letting people know when something is free or being given away.

If you mean that it's ironic that the Twitter account seems to have replaced the MB in some ways despite the fact that a lot of the regular posters don't Twitter, no you aren't the only one.

I'm THRILLED that the LGC Twitter account was started. The fan-perspective practice updates alone are not only totally awesome but something I bet almost no other team has. But when I get more hits on my phone than on the game thread during the game....you're right, that is ironic.

Part of why I started coming to this place was because it had almost everything I needed/wanted in one place. Never had any interest in having to go to more than one.

I agree, though, I really think the slowness is due to the West Coast trip more than anything else.

And no, I don't have FB (or My Space, or anything) either. *gasp* And yes, I am less than 40yo. And I before texting I actually used to turn my cell phone off the second I walked in the door of my house.

My wife is a FB junkie. She keeps up with everybody and farms. I'll get in bed and have to fight for attention with the laptop. She can find out what's up with me without the computer.

I'm just not interested in the daily "goings on" of everybody I know (present company excepted). I remember when I could go on vacation for a whole week, and not need a telephone or a computer for the whole time. Nice.

Not really a luddite, but I like having real mouth-and-ear conversations with people and I like my alone time. All of my clients know that if they call and I don't answer, they'll have to leave a message, like in the olden days. I keep my cell phone in pristine condition because it was so hard to find one without a camera and MP3 player. Much to the chagrin of Verizon, I had texting disabled so that I wouldn't have to pay $0.15 every time my brother wrote "guess where I am?" If I could get a small, wireless rotary phone, I'd be all over that sh!t. True dat.

If you're a Tweety, rock on. Because of you, I feel as up-to-date as I'm gonna' get, because y'all are good about posting the breaking news pretty quickly.

I told SoCal that I triple dog dared someone to go do that in BUF and that I would bankroll the bail money... or the cost of major medical.

Also...where is everybody these days? I know the fair is in town but...this place was silent. Game Threads used to be waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer than 2 pages :(

OMG- remember 2006 SCF Game 7? We had our own party in the game thread that night.

it seems like I never actually "see" people anymore, or even "talk" to people anymore but I can read all about them on FB and Twitter.

I was starting to hit that wall a while back, too. On the one hand, FB allows me to connect, and have a more personal relationship with, people who are not necessarily in my daily life or with whom I've lost touch over the years -- people from high school and college, people who share a love for our alma mater, and even some of y'all -- but I found that I was feeling disconnected from the people with whom I am the closest, my inner circle of friends. We'd get together and start to tell a story and it'd be, "Oh, yeah, I read that on your FB page the other day." Or we wouldn't bother to call each other because we felt like we knew everything from FB. I was a three-a-day status updater (morning, after work, before bed) and I've tried to back off to one or two each day. I am not always successful, and I'm still spending waaaaaay too much time on FB, but I think it kind of helps when I'm not telling everyone everything. I also do not, and never did, play any of the games. (I imagine that for you, chc, it has to be extra hard to connect with friends while working two jobs -- I've been there and it was a struggle to maintain friendships, no matter how much initiating I did.)

And the too-much-time-on-FB is part of the reason I've drawn my line at Twitter, which is not blocked at the office. I also have little patience for figuring out the shorthand. I tried to follow LTD's Twitter while y'all were in Finland and I could understand some of it and the rest I was all, "WTF?!"

O.K... so I didn't post anything during the game, because Mr. CL & I were over at Mr. & Mrs. Guinevere's house, enjoying the game together.

But.... I must tell you that a little something I bought at the Fair, changed our mojo for the good when I put it on for over-time.

I don't know what other people buy at the Fair..... turkey legs ..... t-shirts .....

Me? I bought a SOCK MONKEY HAT... and it's now known as the RALLY MONKEY HAT!!

I remember someone(s) loving that eared hat that Parker Staal had on in a photo or video last year and when I saw those adult-sized hats -- which were at quite a few stands -- at the fair, I meant to post about it here. Glad someone got one!

i'm your polar opposite. All of my clients gave up on calling me over a year ago, they either email me or text me..mostly because that way I have written proof of things, and secondly I don't really like talking to people, because usually they just annoy me :) I'm antisocial for the most part, don't know why but I have never really been a talker, and i live and breath on my evo.

We are polar opposites, DW. For starters, I have no idea what an evo is. (Assuming it's some kind of communication thing, somewhere between semaphore and a teleporter.) Although we'd have great discourse at a bar, for sure. I'd say, "Hey, DW." And you'd write on a napkin, "What?"
