Well, I guess someone is happy today!

Kinda shows how bad things are in OTT, for awhile there I thought he'd be a Sen for life!

Yeah, I think MF thought he'd be a Senator for life too. We all know how ingrained in that community Fisher was/is, and out of all the stuff that has ever happened to that franchise he was the guy that always had the halo on- he's been that popular. I don't think he asked to be traded, I couldn't imagine that he did- I'm thinking they're trying to get the larger contracts off their books.

That team is such a mess, it's good he's getting a chance to be in the same house as his wife, & play for a team that needs someone like him to get them out of the 1st round. Plus, he adds instant cache with the Preds. They don't have "star quality" guys (save for Shea Weber and probably Ryan Suter but they're d-men) on their team, and this will surely add a nice sheen on the profile of the Predators.

All kinds of action already makes me think this year we'll have some really interesting trade deadline stuff happening.

Wow! Hopefully it works out for him professionally, too, but what a perfect personal move -- given what those two do for a living -- for them.

I read he didn't ask to be traded but was approached by the team. Sounds like LA and Nashville were persuing him. Gotta like that the GM sent him to the one place that will be a perfect fit for him.

His second option was Los Angeles who I’m told actually put a better package on the table. Word is the Kings along with the Carolina Hurricanes had acceptable offers on the table for Fisher.

I don't think so (moving Flyers). They are gearing up for a Cup win. They cleared cap space for this purpose (and Cole was in the rumors). Not saying they won't make some other move, but it won't be to shed salary - they don't have to at the moment.

KaniacFever

Exactly. Laperriere is on LTIR and it doesn't appear he'll be back this season. They have about 1.725 available in cap space with him on LTIR.

Well, I was devastated when Versteeg got traded to the Leafs and pissed at the Hawks that it happened so dang fast- but I let it go; PHI isn't my favorite team, but since PL is their coach, I pay more attention to them. We were headed out to dinner last night when I saw the trade, and I'd say that it's definitely a better fit for Versteeg in PHI than that trade to TO.

All it does is load PHI up some more. He'll play well in a Laviolette style system and I just love his personality. Hey any guy who can get on the stage at the Cup Parade and make up a rap? I have that clip saved in my faves on YouTube and bust it out when I need a laugh.

So an inquiring minds moment---- Is a 1st round pick now the currency of the moment? I'm a Fisher fan, and Versteeg is a REAL good player, but 1st round picks in exchange? I'm a little suspect.

Given the how shallow this upcoming draft class is and how high the NSH (20+) and PHI (25+) picks are likely to be, I suspect that indeed the picks have to be 1st rounders. Now, if the draft class is what we saw last year or from Staal's class, then I'd say indeed the first rounder is steep, but not so much this summer.

If this is the place where we can post trade wishes for the trade wish fairy... how do we get Cory Stillman back up here. Last year of his deal, he's a power play genius, we know he can play with Staal, etc. etc.

Pitkanen for Couture. Then we'll 100% get the Calder.

But seriously, SJ has some good players but they're in the thick of that crazy Western Conference race so they may only be willing to deal future assets and not anything that would hurt a possible run.

All the talk i was hearing was that Couture was the 'hands-down' Calder winner because he was the goal scorer.

Oops. Time to go for Grabner...

Me: Ruutu traded to ducks for a 6th round pick
BF: WTF, is JR on crack? You're kidding right.
Me: Nope, Jarkko was traded to the Ducks.
BF: Not funny

Well the trade of all trades happened when everyone was asleep. STL has given up on the #1 overall pick in 2006, Erik Johnson along with Jay McClement to COL for Chris Stewart & Kevin Shattenkirk. (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=354489)

WTH & WTF? I know STL appeared to no longer be enamoured of Johnson, but dude. But WTH on Stewart & Shattenkirk, also 06 draft picks but with ALL kinds of jam. I'm shocked but I guess you need not be these days.

If we're doing the TSN instant analysis on this trade= Winner STL. They stole two dudes who are gonna be great for them.

Its trades like this that make me frustrated with JR...I know there have to be too willing partners and I don't see a way he could have offered Boston anythign that would work for Wheeler and Stuart, but MAN, if Chris Stewart is in play--I hope we at least tried something to get him. Imagine a top line of Staal-Stewart-Cole.

We don't have an Erik Johnson to offer, so its really wishful thinking on my part. But I'd be willing to give up quite a bit to get him--maybe something like Stewart/Shattenkirk for Joni/one or two of our kids/conditional pick (based on if Col resigns Joni).

I just don't know what Colorado is doing. They have a GREAT young foundation that exceeded expectations last year, came back down to earth AND had massive injury issues this year. Why the hell would you blow it up?

Maybe this is all about contract issues? Otherwise, I can't see why on earth you'd let those two go, despite the decent return in EJ. Is Duchene next?

No way we would/could sign Richards in the offseason and I don't think we're going to offload so many pieces of our team to bring in a rental for a playoff run that may or may not happen. Plus, he's a center. We need a RW.

Think CLB is desperate enough to give us Nash for Pitkanen and picks/prospects? No....well, I'll just keep dreaming then.

from a salary standpoint I don't see us doing it either - but you could make the argument that richards could center 15/53 - that'd be....FUN.

You saying that Staal, Richards, and Sutter down the middle doesn't make you salivate?

I seriously doubt we would offer Richards the salary he's seeking, but it is nice to have a guy like that mention Carolina as a team he would want to play for.

Brad Richards in a Canes jersey is just wishful thinking. If he moves, it's going to be to a Cup contender. We don't want to mortgage our future for a couple of weeks in the playoffs this year. What would JR look like if we gave up the farm for Richards, he doesn't gel with the team and we miss the playoffs? Gotta make a move that makes us better next year talent-wise and dollar-wise, plus improves the team down the stretch to keep up with the Jones'... iow... the teams we're fighting with for that 7th & 8th spot. I think any changes will be subtle.

KaniacFever
02-22-2011, 08:32 AM
^I wouldn't trade for him, but I sure as hell would go after him July 1st. If he noted Carolina as a team he's interested in, you are damn sure i'm putting a call into his agent.

If you don't like Richards as a possible rental, what about Stastny who's signed for three more years? With the salary dump from White, the comments about allowing JR to do what he needs to do, and reading the reports that JR had the best offer in on Fisher, to me it doesn't seem out of the realm of possibilities. He is younger and way more offensive upside than Fisher.

Fghtr4jc
02-22-2011, 10:57 AM
I wouldn't mind Stastny, since his salary wouldn't be too bad to absorb since we would be sending someone in return. Then again, I've always thought we need wingers, not centers. Of course, Stastny could free up Ruutu to play wing so there's that. I wouldn't mind someone not named Staal putting up 70 points.

Not sure he's available anymore. There was speculation that Colorado was looking at 2 deals, one involving Statsny, and they opted to grab EJ and hang onto Statsny.

Who knows what's up JR's sleeve and what he's willing to pull, but being strong down the center is imperative going into the playoffs and we're dismal on face offs. In 2006, we had Brind'Amour, Staal, Vasicek, Weight and Adams all capable of taking a face off and Lavi often had two centers on the ice to ensure if one got bounced, there was a real back up available.
