I am starting this thread mostly as a joke but if people would like to use to bash any member of the Canes then feel free. It has become painfully obvious to me after reading other posts that nobody can offer an opinion about a certain goaltender without other people thinking that they are bashing said goaltender. I know from personal experience since I was quite critical about this goaltender last year and was called racist because of it. That being said, here is a specific thread if you only want to bash someone. Those people who get upset when their favorite player gets bashed respond here as well. If you have criticisms of a player or players feel free to post in whatever thread you deem necessary. Hopefully this will stop all the 'you bashed so and so thus I must defend their honor" posts that inhabit other threads.

Hey JILLSDAD....a good idea. I'm surprised my screen wasn't oozing blood from the PRACTICE thread :beatup: I was hesitant to come into this one for fear of some HOT venting....but maybe this will make for safer threads.....

Well well, I have my doubts as to how long this will stay open, but I'll get the ball rolling!

I'd like to take this chance to bash the canes management! I feel like we really should have brought in a proven 1st or 2nd line winger(no not Magnus).... I know, I know, what most of you think "lets give the younger (Unproven) guys a chance" :roll:. I'm sorry that I'd rather go with a proven talent than unproven potential...

I'd say we relly need a proven 2nd line left winger if I had my way! 1st line would be Cole-Brind'Amour-O'Neil. 2nd would be (Proven Left WInger)-Francis-Vrbata. Where ever cole plays we still need a left wing. But what are we going to get at left wing? Probaly Josef Vasicek. I'd rather keep him at center. Vasicek could probaly be an OK lefty, but I think in the future he'd be better utilized as a center if he can get alittle better offensively.

I suppose this thread is regarding some of my posts. (Just to make clear ... I never called anyone a racist, or incinuated that in any way. I'm not sure where that came from nor did I see that from anyone else. I doubt that would be tolerated by any moderator here).

Obviously people are entitled to voicing whatever opinions they choose, for or against said goaltender no matter how ludicrous they might seem to be. If some of my posts were considered to be "defending his honor", I guess I should apologize again. I will cease and desist immediately. ;)

By the way, I was also "defending the honor" of Danny Markov after some people were voicing negative opinions, (not bashing), concerning his threats to play in Russia. I didn't see anyone make comments afterwards complaining about how people were not allowed to voice opinions on Markov, but maybe I missed them.

hmmm, perhaps I should be a public defender?

Anytime a thread heads toward "your favorite player sucks...." territory it can get ugly really fast.

It can also be a fascinating discussion as long as people don't let it get too personal.

Thank you SHC for clearing that up. I believe in my original post I said that I was called a racist last year. I was not directing this too you cool hand just like I was not opening this thread because of you. I just felt it was a good idea to open up a thread like this so other threads don't get filled with the back and forth that bashing always starts.

No, beyond sucking, I really like(d) Irbe, but you honestly do have to admit he was never much more than an average goalie. Unconventional style on a small frame. Weekes has the bigger frame and plays his angles better (when he's on), but is not as strong mentally. That's what scares me over a long season, where he's unproven. He becomes rattled after a goal--what will happen when the team goes on their annual winter slide?

speaking only for myself, I have no problem with this thread as long as everyone behaves ;)

However, the word racist has never been used on this board as an accusation so there is no reason to even bring it up. It makes me cringe. I don't hate white people because I don't like Tie Domi. You're allowed to have concerns about Weekes. Obviously anyone posting racist comments would be banned in a new york minute.

personally, I have great concerns when it comes to Weekes. He had a
great run before his concussion and not much after that. There is probably
a reason he was back up goalie for so long. Hopefully (and this is a huge
hopefully) it was just a confidence thing and JR is determined to build his
confidence and believe in him. I hope his gamble pays because that is
what it is, a gamble.

Speak on! Go on wit' yo' bad self! I'm on board with that. I'm not really a fan of goalies (most likely because I was a forward for so long and now an offensive defenceman), but I'd like to see Weekes shut every single "experts" piehole by playing his butt off and showing that he is MORE than a capable #1.

Awww Abnormal- you're not all that offensive... :D

I will say.. in a very small little voice- that I have concerns about Weekes too. If you look at the few games he played before the concussion - his numbers were not all that hot. Some games below a .9 save percentage.
Overall, his numbers have improved every year though. I"m hoping with a strong defense and the confidence in being the declared number one he'll be able to step up and do well on a consistent basis.

Weekes definitely has glaring weaknesses. His puck handling is not good and puck awareness (after making a save), seems to be lacking at times. On the otherhand, he has excellent reflexes and great ability to deflect or stop the initial shot. He hasn't impressed me so far in camp though, but I'm still hoping for the best. My wife witnessed a disagreement between him and a coach, in which the coach actually gave him a little shove. Maybe they were just playin, I don't know. My wife seemed to think it was a genuine argument.

If he can't be successful this year with our loaded for bear defense, I'm afraid he never will be.

Can't argue with you there at all. Looking at the Canes' defense right now, i'd almost feel safe with Moss and Fichaud out there.
