Nice article on Samson. Captures the challenges of the young guys when they come up perfectly:

“I can’t play the same way both places, because there they want me to be safe but here I have to be more creative. Here I can try to go around a guy, but I know it’s something I can’t quite do when I go up.”

Mo=play it safe and play not to lose
Daniels=be creative and play to win.

Depressing.

I do think that JD has a better "top to bottom" team in regard to talent vs. their opponents as compared to Mo, but still - this approach isn't going to help anyone make "the next step".

Beyond depressing, and what we all know or at least suspected. I could just pull all of my hair out right now.

I'm so glad we had this time together, just to have a laugh or sing a song.

Mo sucks. He might be the greatest guy on the planet, but the Hurricanes have no present and he's doing all he can to make sure the future is just like the past. Kinda wish the Canes would go ahead and trade Samson, Dalpe, et al. Despite any potential, as long as they are in the Canes system, they are going to remain AHL All-Stars / NHL 4th-liners. They're never going to get a real chance in the Mo Brigade.

I think that's a bit true, but also a bit of an oversimplification. NHL defensemen are faster and better and thus harder to skate around. And a bad turnover leading to a breakaway goal against in the AHL is simply not as big of a deal.

Perhaps, but the way things are going for the Canes, i say bring him in and let them be creative. If it doesn't work, we're in no worse a position than we are now, and it'll at least be a little more exciting watching them lose.

Definitely agree that I'd rather see Dalpe, Samson, and Boychu(c)k (I can never remember how to spell his last name) out there trying if we're going to lose anyway.
