~picking jaw up off the floor and wiping chin~
wow. 1001hp on the Bugatti. that's just insane. wonder if it's a 7-speed.
the new Ferrari is just a frigging masterpiece. pure and simple.
and the new Alfa... holy crow. it's like a cross between an old Jag roadster, and an NSX or something.
thanks for the pics :)

The LA Auto Show is going on now.. check out the 2005 Lotus Elise...
http://www.laautoshow.com/images/dcar6_pic.jpg
2005 Lotus Elise
The hugely popular Elise comes to the U.S. for the first time and has a total weight of just under 1,700 lbs., giving it an incredible power to weight ratio.
You can see some debuts and concept cars here if interested:

There's where it's at....'84 Ford LTD LX. If I ever run into some money I'm gonna buy one at a junkyard for cheap and fix it up...maybe paint it black. It'll be sweet
Bugatti.... *drool* They made gorgeous opera sedans back in the 30's. A far cry from the designs they use now, to be sure. I toy with the idea of striking it rich and building a garage to house my fleet, ranging from Deloreans and Trans Ams to Pierce-Arrows. :D *RIO goes to her happy place*

I didn't look through all the cars in the show yesterday, but I am now.
http://www.laautoshow.com/images/dcar10_pic.jpg
The new Porsche Carrera.... mmmmmmm. over 600 hp, 208 top speed. 0-60 in under 3.9 secs. unfrikkinbelievable. and that baby looks sweeeeeet too.
http://www.laautoshow.com/images2/car2_pic.jpg
The Cadillac Sixteen. V16, 1000hp engine. 1000 hp???? I don't have anything to say.
and, the show's ugliest (and most bug-like) car is....
http://www.laautoshow.com/images2/car12_pic.jpg
Blech!!! (Dodge Kahuna btw)
Also- something that I've been waiting to see for a LONG time....
manufacturers are starting to make auto-converting hard-tops on convertibles. talk about sweet! Lexus has one (SC 430), and I saw another one recently, just can't remember what. verrrry nice.
oh, and I was also surprised to learn that the Lotus Elise does not have a huge engine. it's probably actually not all that faster than my MR2 was (which was fitted with racing upgrades to most major components. that puppy took a few porsche's in it's day. :D ). only a 1.7liter 190hp engine. huh. lot of money for a pretty car that doesn't have much in the way of balls.
The Kahuna is clearly another retro-esque attempt, like a '48 Chevy mutant. I saw this 1950 Studebaker bulletnose that had the woody slabsides. Looks *just* like the Kahuna. I think it's kinda cute, Guy, in a Flash-Gordon-bulldog sort of way. :smoke:

I wouldn't say Cute. lol. but, I do like the rollback top... basically creating a convertible van. kinda cool. I guess it's that the front looks like it was already run into a brick wall at 80mph that gets me.
I'm still in awe at the Caddy 16. What I would do to take a 1,000hp car for a run. whew.

 This made me laugh... a friend of ours had a Swinger a few years back ~ a totally dejected looking thing, with a flat green paint job and a fuzzy wheel cover. The suspension on it was so dilapidated it would make the car's body undulate wildly when he drove it. Ahhh, yes, a Swinger death trap. Good times, good times. :vamp:

Best car I ever had was a Swinger. I loved that car, and wept when we finally had to have it towed to the salvage yard. :(

I was just going through some of the "Vehicle Highlights" from their site again. I have NO idea how I missed the Saleen link last time. Did y'all see that? OMFG.
I've always liked what Saleen did with the 'Stang. (for a new stang anyway. pretty sweet). But THIS. holy crappola.
http://www.laautoshow.com/images5/Saleen/saleen.jpgSaleen S-7
Saleen is a high-performance vehicle tuner and manufacturer headquartered in Irvine, California. Their 2-seater, Ford-powered S7 supercar is powered by an all-aluminum, 7.0-liter V-8 that produces 550 horsepower and is mated to a 6-speed transaxle. The carbon fiber-bodied S7 has a top speed in excess of 200 mph and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds.
Under 3.0 seconds!!!! Holy moley!!!
Transaxle! That means it's front wheel drive! BOOO! Squirrelly!
Guyute
01-09-2004, 03:36 PM
I have a feeling it wouldn't be too bad in that car. hehe
maybe it was the only way they could keep the torque from shredding that carbon-fiber body off the line. /shrug.
I mean, 0-60 in 2.9... that's rice-rocket speed. something that just doesn't spin 1 wheel... yet is still street legal, really isn't meant to do that. lol
it is kind of odd. but better than pulling the rear off of your car when you hop off the line..... I guess. :)
I think I'd probably take one.
Since you mentioned torque, what kind of numbers are we talking about here? Looks like it might be geared rather high to be cranking out 550 horses. I'll bet it's like riding a bucking horse if you were taking it light to light. Did they mention what type of transaxle it was? I don't suppose they listed the rear-end diff ratio either?

I didn't even think to check out saleen.com until you asked. they have it all. and some great pictures. that car is really something else.
though they list it at "under 4 seconds", which seems closer to right to me. under 3 seconds is comparable to a serious racing bike. high-end Ducati, or a ZX-11 that's been worked over or something.
Horsepower 550 hp @ 6400 rpm
Torque 525 ft.-lbs. @ 4000 RPM
Redline 7000 rpm
check out their site though, seeings how it's almost 5pm, it's time for me to go. ;)
Go! Flee! Flee, little man!! Flee to your home and your lovely wife and long-suffering dog!!
(Only flee at a safe speed. A-hee. )

Not much new in the showrooms that can make a statement like this:
http://www.autotrend.com/pic/px153.jpg
No, the purists say its not a real Ferarri if it only has 6 cylinders- but I've lusted after one forever...and dreading the day I actually ever try to sit in one and learn I can't jam my legs under the steering wheel and discover I dont freegin fit in there.
Chris Bangle be damned.
