Canucks sign veteran forward Arvedson

The Vancouver Canucks have signed forward Magnus Arvedsson to a one-year $1.5 million US contract plus bonuses, TSN has learned.

Arvedson, 31, had 16 goals, 21 assists and a plus-13 rating in 80 games last season while earning $1.65 million US with the Ottawa Senators.

The Senators allowed Arvedson to walk away on July 1 as an unrestricted free agent.

The Senators held discussions with Arvedson's agent Don Meehan, but made it clear that the club only wanted Arvedson back if he was willing to accept less money than what he made last year.

Arvedson had his best season in 1998-99, when he scored 21 goals and 26 assists in 80 games and was among the nominations for the Selke Trophy as the league's best defensive forward.

why?

Because we have many 3rd and 4th liners that can probaly score just as good as him.

We need scorers not "defensive forwards"

well, I'd disagree. not saying I'd give up any particular 3rd/4th liners for him to have a spot....

but we don't have a lot of guys that deep in the roster that will post those #'s.
