I've seen this one a few places now.

This is from the Toronto Star:

Where There's Smoke...
Trade rumors are beginning to swirl around the NHL, which can only mean that the start of the season isn't far off. The Washington Capitals let it be known this summer that their current payroll is not acceptable and cost-cutting inevitable. One possible move making the rounds these days is a three-way deal involving the Caps, Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings that would send No. 1 netminder Olaf Kolzig to the Avalanche and expensive winger Jaromir Jagr to Detroit. In return, the Caps would receive injured veteran netminder Curtis Joseph from Detroit and young winger Alex Tanguay from the Avs. There is probably more to this potential three-way dance than its current configuration. Stay tuned.

And I guess I was sleeping when www.thefourthperiod.com started up again. (Didn't it go belly up last spring?)

I don't think I believe that one would happen. It sounds too good to be true, and McPhee doesn't usually pull trades that benefit his team! (-:

Tanguay would be a nice acquistion for the Caps though. Maybe finally a player who doesn't have tantrums in the locker room.

Wow...
Good for the Caps if they can rid of Jagr. But give up Ollie? I dunno...and what you get in return is an injured starter. Who was WAS's backup goalie last year? Ouellet? He'd have to start the season...

Yeah, tell me about it.

Ironic that a huge ego and locker room cancer in Fedorov would be replaced with the exact same thing in Jagr, if the said trade happens...

So would dumping Kolzig and Jagr but getting Cujo and Tanguay really cut salary much?

I was always wondering why people were saying thefourthperiod.com was gone. I knew faceoff.com was essentially gone but I was still getting thefourthperiod after it was initially down for a site overhaul.

Kolzig 6.25
Jagr 11

Tanguay 1.5
Cujo 8

Yep - saves about 7-8 mil :eek2:

Thanks Eileen. I didn't realize Tanguay made so little (comparatively) and Kolzig made that much. I guess if you throw that $11 million in there it makes the whole point moot anyway. I WISH Jagr would go to Detroit! They could use a nice curse for a while (sorry Wings fans...I'm just being vindictive  ).

I'd rather see Jagr stay with Washington and ruin them since they are in our division.. lol

Actually, faceoff.com was absorbed into canada.com and made into their hockey section on the site. If you go to www.faceoff.com, you will be redirected to that page. Bell Global Media owns faceoff.com and canada.com as well as many televison staions throughout Canada, and just decided to merge many of their "puzzle pieces" together.

I don't know how Jagr has ruined Washington these last 2 seasons he's palyed with them. Other than scoring 67 goals and 89 assists, and getting paid a rediculous amount. Atleast washington made the playoffs last season and Jagr averaged more than a point per game. So did detroit with Federov.

Washington would be dumb to take this trade. What would they be getting? Tanguay, who for colorado is a good scroer but he has Sakic or Forsberg helping to set him up. Also Tanguays numbes have been less than outstanding in the goals column. He seems to be more of an assits guy himself since most of his point have came from assists. So who knows what he could do on a much lesser team like Jagrs on. Thats the problem with Washington they don't have a Lemieux, Sakic or Forsberg to setup Jagr or Tanguay. They'd also be getting an injured goalie. Cujo is still better than alot of other goalies in the league though.

Putting Jagr on a solid team like Detroit would be great for detroit and Jagr I'd say.

Unless washington cares more about money than winning (which they probaly do) I don't know why they'd take this trade.

Jagr and Fedorov are the same situation in my mind.. the old "there is no 'i' in team" adage.. sure individually he may score goals and assists.. but what happens to the rest of the team when he is there? They did make the playoffs last year (and exited quickly) but they did not make them the year before when Jagr was there. In the 2 years prior to Jagr joining, the Caps won 85 games. In the two years he has been there, they won 75. I don't see how they are any better off having him than they were before. He certainly did not do enough to justify being THE highest paid player in the entire league last year. Some people don't believe in such things as locker room cancers, but I sure do..

ditto to that ^^^

Jagr is a giant crybaby, and spends more time whining then he does playing. There's more than just a few people who call him Jaromir "I need a dime for the machine in the bathroom" Jagr.

Chemistry is worth so much more than one talented player. See Canes cup run for proof.

Like when Ryan Bayda checked him last year? :D

ANY trade that gets Jagr off the caps roster is of no benefit to the Hurricanes. Jagr may be good on ice, but only when he has the puck. He plays only when he is motivated to play and offers little help on defence. Jagr staying in Washington creates discordancy and thus makes the Canes cohesiveness that much more of a weapon. If the Caps can unload Jagr, this may make the Caps stronger both on defence and in cohesion. Jagr on offence is tempermental and Klee left a hole on defence with his free agency. A trade of Jagr to Detroit or the Rangers will get a cancerous primadonna (or should it be primaballerina since we are talking Jagr??) out of our division and in all likelihood, the Caps will work on building up their defence...

The rumors of Jagr's trade are really starting to mirror the Ben-J-lo romance-- will they, won't they...but really, do we like any of these people??
