Nice...that's what I was hoping for! I figured there is some connection scientifically between the makeup of a hockey fan and coaster fan...

CP is awesome...Really...get up there. I loved living in PA because I was close to so many...Kennywood, CP, Geagua Lake-->now SFWOA, Hershey, and others.

CP has a 400+' coaster this year, similar to King's Dominion's Hypersonic. 0-over 100 mph in 3 seconds.

Right Here!

I have been to Kings Dominion at least 50 times over the past few years. I also go to Carowinds (don't waste your money, I have a season pass that is good for all Paramount Parks including Kings Dominion and Carowinds) so if I am bored on a Weekend I will go for a few hours.

My only problem is that I have to stick to Coasters without a shoulder harness, because I am Claustrophobic, and I hate when the Shoulder Harness locks. I used to ride them all of the time, but I got stuck on one one time, and I freaked out. I really want to ride them, but I can't.

Anyway, my favorite ride at KD is The Grizzly in the Dark. The ride is O.K. in the daytime, but it is awesome in the dark, especially when they turn all of the track lights off.

I also ave a season pass for Universal Studios Florida. I want to ride the Hulk and Dueling Dragons, but I just can't get over the C-Phobia.

I also love the Hurler and Rebel Yell at KD. I used to ride the Anaconda, and it was a pretty fun ride.

The Flight of Fear is also fun, but I can not ride that one anymore either.

Busch Gardens:

I have ridden every coaster there. My favorite one was the Big Bad Wolf. Again, I can not ride anymore.

If you want a hell of a drop, go for the Apollo's Chariot. That is actually my favorite.

The LochNess Monster used to have cars where your feet dangled, and it was sweet when you went across the lake. Now the bottoms are covered, and I have not ridden it with the newer cars.

I made another mistake above. I have not ridden the Alpengeist. Hopefully one day, I will be able to.

I have done all of the Disney Parks too, and my favorite coaster is Space Mountain. I have not rode on the Rockin Roller Coaster, but I heard it was sweet. I actually got on the ride, but when the Harness came down, I freaked out again, and had to get off.

I plan to visit Cedar Point this summer in Ohio. Millenium Force here I come!

no, I have never gotten excited about coasters so long as they keep my table dry ;)

Most of my favorite rides are at Busch Gardens in Tampa since I used to live 2 miles from there and had a season pass. Kumba (http://www.buschgardens.com/buschgardens/fla/ar_kumba.aspx) rocked. So did Montu (http://www.buschgardens.com/buschgardens/fla/ar_montu.aspx)

When I lived in Houston and had a season pass to 6 Flags/Astroworld, I liked the Texas Cyclone (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/astroworld/rides/cyclone.asp?id=rides&rideid=thrills) probably because it was an old wood roller coaster that would rattle your brain LOL. XLR8 (http://www.sixflags.com/parks/astroworld/rides/xlr-8.asp?id=rides&rideid=thrills) was cool too because it was one of the first suspended roller coasters which I loved..

The Giant Dipper (http://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/coasters/yellowpages/coasters/giantdipper_scbb.shtml) in Santa Cruz CA is truly awesome. There is something special about being on a coaster right next to the ocean LOL. Originally built in 1924!

I thought Dorney Park in PA was one of the worst parks I have ever been to.

Also like Space Mountain and Tower of Terror even though I lived in Orlando for too long to still like Disney.

Mean Gene--I can understand you problems with restraints. Nessie at BGW is definately a tight fit...I like the new restrait systems out now, like on Apollo. I like that coaster, just because all of the seat time.

You'll enjoy CP--just allow at least 2 FULL days at the park. With Millie, Wicked Twister, and now Top Force Dragster, you'll need all that time. CP is definately the best of the parks I've been to.

Why no major theme park in the Triangle? It's really hard, after living in Pittsburgh (having so many major parks around) to have the closest parks over 2 hours away. We could have a basketball themed park around here (for all the ACC hoopla.) Or Tobacco Land! Or my favorite--Canes World.

LOVE 'EM!!! But probably haven't been on as many as others since I really haven't been to too many parks.

My first ever coaster ride was the Sooper Dooper Looper in Hershey Park! Loved it and love the Comet there.

My favoritest ever, though, is Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens! Love the Loch Ness Monster there too. The Alpengiest is cool too but the Big Bad Wolf throws you around a bit much for my taste.

SHC--that's what's great about BBW...Especially that last hill, turning left at the lagoon...I love that, especially at night!!

Alpengeist is really good, but CP has an inverted coaster, Raptor, so much better. I really how BGW gets a coaster soon to replace Drachen Fire (they finally took it down  ) Anyone ever ride it?

See....I hated Drachen Fire. I literally felt like I needed to see the chiropractor everytime I got off that thing! If you like being thrown around a lot I guess you would have liked it.....not for me though. AP is so smooth....maybe it's the old-lady's coaster. LOL!

Both types have their place...

Although I (being confrontational today as opposed to others *wink*) prefer the jarring, out of control action that BBW and Nessie give you. I like the smooth rides too, but love the throw you around ride you get from old woodies.

Kennywood in Pittsburgh (for those of us who are transplants) has some great woodies that throw you around...Classic! They had a steel coaster (The Steel Phantom--based on P-burgh's steel manuf. history-haha) that looped and really jarred you around. They retracked the ride a few years ago, took out the loops to make it smoother, and now it's half the coaster it used to be.

*Rcf intended this thread to save time from posting on a coaster board and Canes board--it's all about time management!*

The ride was fun at the beginning. It had a huge lift hill. When you got to the top, there was no drop. It was jsut a buch of twists and turns, It was rather boring and did hurt pretty bad. They sold it to a park in Germany. A park employee, told me it was disassembled, put on a boat, and shipped to Germany.

I've separated ribs on that puppy!!!

Not me. . . I'm terrified. . . . afraid of heights. My husband loves them, though, and I get to hold the camera backpack while he rides. :) He's 58 yrs. old and STILL loves riding them!

I've only seen him bothered by a coaster once. This is a pretty funny story: Last summer while we spent a day at Busch Gardens, he rode Alpengeist. I'm doing my usual while he's riding-- hanging out at a good spot to see if I can see him zooming down the hill, and chatting w/other Moms, spouses, etc. waiting like me. (I'm at an age now, that they assume I'm waiting for a kid, and not my HUSBAND!! :p) Anyway, the line for the ride was pretty long, so I got some popcorn and a coke and eventually found a bench in the shade to wait for him. About 1/2 an hour later he finds me, and I'm like, "What was it like? Did you have fun? Do you want some popcorn?" All he said is, "Man-- that was intense!" Well, I'm ready for the next adventure, so I jump up, but he says, "You know, it's really hot. Why don't we just sit here for awhile and relax." He totally refuses any popcorn, and acts like he's kind of nauseated. So, I say, "What's wrong, honey? Did the ride get to you." "No-- it's just really hot and we don't need to be rushing around. . . ."

He TOTALLY would not admit the ride got to him until a couple days later. He said his legs felt like jello when he got off and that the shoulder harness was so tight that he felt like he couldn't breathe for the entire ride. ;)

The Aerosmith Rock N Roller Coaster in Disney-MGM is awesome, the best coaster I've been on in years. In general I am a fan of coasters that go upside down and corkscrew and stuff rather than ones with big drops. All too many years ago, I went on a ride at Astroworld in Houston called Greased Lightning; it was just one big loop that you went through forward and then backward. Now that was a heck of a ride!

People, People, People.........if we're gonna talk coasters........let's get serious.

Carowinds.....Top Gun is kinda novel, but not worth waiting more than 10 minutes for and the backwards version of ThunderRoad is a neat way to break up the day. Everything else there is great............for 9 and 10 year olds.

Rock 'n Roller Coaster at MGM ???? kinda fun, but I thought we talking serious coasters. :)

1st of all..........Kings Island (just north of Cincinnati) has The Beast......http://www.pki.com/attractions_rides_featured.jsp?id=710

It is worth every minute of the wait.

When you're done at Kings Island...........head north to Sandusky, OH for the single greatest collection of thrill rides in one single park.

Cedar Point (and its 16.........yes 16 roller coasters).

The classic old wooden rib breaker.....The Blue Streak. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/blue.cfm

a 15 year old classic........Magnum http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/magnum.cfm

the 80 degree 1st hill of the Millenium http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/millennium/index.cfm

and the all new, Top Thrill Dragster (420 ft tall and 120 mph). http://www.topthrilldragster.com/public/inside_park/rides/thrill/ttd/specs/index.cfm

While there are many great coasters around the country, I'll put Cedar Point's collection up as the best available for a single admission ticket.

ps- its good to see this place up & running again, some of you may remember me under an alterego. :spin: :spin: :spin: :spin:

ALSO here is a link to some videos of the Cedar Point rides....http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun_online/video_dl.cfm

yep, Cedar Point is definitely THE place for coasters.

one of these days (before I'm too old, and my bones too brittle), I'll make that trip to do a few days worth of nothing but riding.

once you go, you're realize while I can get so excited about the place.

If there is a downside to going to Cedar Point, its there is NOTHING else around.

Unless you want to drive to Toledo for a Mud Hens game or to eat at Tony Packos

Makes you wonder why Corporal Klinger was so darn desperate to get back home...he obviously was a Mud Hens fan, so maybe he just couldn't miss any of their games. Though if Cedar Point existed then...nuff said.

This probably isn't as great as the other ones, but i LOVED California Screaming at Disney's California Adventure. You go from sitting still to 60+ in like 3 seconds uphill. They have "surfer" kind of music pumped into your ears that's fun at times & then hard rocking during the loops & hills. It was amazing!

Jaro--A coaster is a coaster...Each is individual and great in its own way. I just love the thrill of being on any...Doesn't have to be the fastest or highest...Although that helps...

My personal top 5 List:

1. Raptor--CP
2. Apollo's Chariot--BGW
3. The Beast--King's Island
4. Thunderbolt--Kennywood
5. Magnum--CP

I just got back from a 2 day trip to Carowinds.

They had a few new things this year.

One thing is the Runaway Reptar Coaster. It is for kids, but adults will enjoy it too. It hangs below the track like Top Gun.

They also have the SpongeBob 3D show. Don't waste your time. The line was 2 hours long on Saturday, so we waited. People were coming out looking sick. Not from the moving seats, but knowing they wasted 2 hours to see a 3 minute show that was below average at best. I waited 3 minutes in line before the park closed, and that was almost too long. Please don't waste your time.

It was a nice and cool weekend, and the crowds were not too bad Saturday. Today, we were in the park wiht about 500 other people it seemed. It was sweet!

how about ferris wheels? any fans of them out there? I love the one at Navy Pier in Chicago for the ride and the view.

I have to tell you a funny story..when I was like 6, my sister wanted to ride the double ferris wheel at the fair and she told me if I would ride it with her...WE WOULD STAY ON THE BOTTOM ONE!! I know..gullible little Mona.. ;) Well let me tell you..when that thing started changing and put us on the top..I looked like this..  :eek2:

I ended up getting her back...later on got her on something that scared the sh*t out of her!!

I love all rides...sometimes the ones that constantly spin in a circle kind of do a number on me though!!

I love that ride!! But the Zipper is my favorite...Although it makes you a little dizzy :eek2:, and the guys that operate it sometimes freak us out, my sister and I ride it over and over agian!! awww...gotta love the fair!!

But, back on the rollar coaster subject, I absolutely love 'um!! I used to hate them, until my brother and sister shoved me onto a seat on Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens and locked me in  ...of course I was scared to death, but it turned out ok. My all time favorites are Lochness Monster and Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens seeing as to the fact my family has been there atleast a 1,000 times ...I also liked the Batman and Robin ride at Six Flags up in New Jersey. It blasts you off and you go through loops then you do it backwards. Unfortunatly when my family went to Cedar Point I still hated rollar coasters  , so I was unable to experience any of the coasters up there  ...hopefully we'll go back up there soon...

American Sets New Roller Coaster Record

BERLIN - An American set a world record for roller-coaster riding Tuesday, surpassing his own mark of 147 hours after six days of careening rides in a German amusement park, organizers said.

Richard Rodriguez, 43, followed Guinness Book of World Records rules requiring eight-hour periods of riding with no more than 15-minute breaks, the Holiday Park in the southwest German town of Hassloch said in a statement.

Rodriguez, who teaches English at Loyola University in Chicago, used two roller-coasters at the amusement park in his record chase. For the purpose, one car on each ride was equipped with a small toilet and with seat padding so he could sleep while riding.

Rodriguez first set a record of 147 hours at Holiday Park on July 16, then set out to surpass that mark last Wednesday, organizers said. He plans to stop later this week after reaching 195 hours.

A long-time enthusiast, Rodriguez has been setting roller-coaster endurance records in the United States, England, Canada and Germany since the late 1970s.

I agree guyute...

Although that's lame to add a toilet to the cars. Suck it up! There were some people who did it a few years ago on a pink coaster on the Santa Monica Pier with 15 minute breaks 2 or 3 times a year. Now there was something!

Ok...time to revive this with some new coaster news for 04:

1. Cedar Fair (parent company of Cedar Point) acquires Six Flags Worlds of Adventure, formerly Six Flags Ohio, formerly Geagua Lake, and calls it Geagua Lake. Thoughts on this? New website is up: http://www.geaugalake.com. In purchasing from SF Corp, GL had to change names of copyrighted rides (Superman, Batman, etc). They picked some lame ones, but I like "Dominator." Everyone is complaining about this one, but they need to have a huge statue of Hasek in front of the ride! Think of the theming on that one!

2. Carowinds New/Old coaster--Borg Assimilator. I'm already looking for a ride partner to head down there this summer (finally my wife gets to use the excuse, EXPECTANT MOTHERS should not ride!).

Six Flags Plans To Open Fastest, Tallest Roller Coaster

POSTED: 7:39 am EDT September 29, 2004

JACKSON, N.J. -- Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey said it will open the fastest and tallest roller coaster in the world next year.

The ride is called Kingda Ka. It will accelerate to 128 mph in 3.5 seconds. It will also rise 456 feet off the ground -- and the company that's making it said it will make riders feel weightless.

An animated depiction shows the coaster creeping slowly, stopping and then launching forward horizontally before climbing at a 90-degree angle.

The coaster then spirals 270 degrees as it plummets, flattens out and climbs again while shooting over a 129-foot hill.

The whole experience will last about 50 seconds.

Six Flags hopes the ride does more than just scare the stuffing out of folks. The company wants Six Flags to draw multi-day visitors from Virginia to New England.

Duane Marden, who runs the Roller Coaster Data Base Web site, is looking forward to the rush. He said when the ride opens in the spring, it will draw coaster junkies from all over the East Coast.

the height is pretty nice. but, I'm all about speed. 128mph in 3.5seconds is just unfathomable. I mean, to put it in perspective, there are VERY few cars in the world that will do 0-60 in 3.5seconds. and they'd cost you a few hundred thousand. this thing does over twice that in the same amount of time. SICK. :D

I think in 3.5 seconds, our car could maybe do 0-30. lol

Apollo's Chariot rules. I have a hard time choosing between that, Loch Ness Monster, Big Bad Wolf, and Alpengeist for my most favorite at the Williamsburg Busch Gardens. Should be a good one. I'm really surprised, with all Six Flag Inc's financial problems, they're putting this much into a capitol project. Those in the know, how do the coasters there compare to somewhere like KD or SF America?

Storm Runner at Hershey was incredible. You gotta get there!

I really want to make it out to Thunderhead at Dollywood. Supposed to be the best woodie in the world.

http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/index.asp

the important stuff...

The new roller coaster will shatter all existing world records for speed and height by legendary proportions. Truly the "King of Coasters," Kingda Ka will rocket riders horizontally from 0 to 128 mph in 3.5 seconds before vertically catapulting them a mind-blowing 456 feet (45 stories) into the sky at a 90-degree angle. After a brief moment in the clouds, riders descend 418 feet (41 stories) back down to earth in a 270-degree spiral, only to experience another breathtaking moment of weightlessness as they soar over a 129-foot-tall hill (nearly 13 stories) and then glide back into the station.
