Crowded crease forces Blues to cut Brathwaite
In 30 games this season, Brathwaite recorded 12 wins with a 2.75 goals against average.
The deadline acquisition of Chris Osgood has turned out to be "no good" for Blues goaltender Fred Brathwaite.
Sportsnet has learned St. Louis is about to part company with Brathwaite.
Blues general manager Larry Pleau has decided he will not carry three goalies on his roster. With Osgood and Brent Johnson ranked one and two and a stable of prospects in the minors, Brathwaite has become expendable.
The 30-year-old veteran is the final year of a deal that pays him $1.155 million and will be paid in full regardless of an outright release or reassignment.

Tough luck. Brathwaite was good, but the Blues have to have the most crowded goaltending corps of any team by far.
Who was that kid they used against us back in October in the overtime loss? He was from somewhere in eastern Europe, and he was good, too...hmm.

Man. I'd love to see the Canes snag Brathwaite, now that Weekes is going to have surgery. Not worth the money, though, when the season's already over and he'd likely end up not needed next season.
But still, i'd love to see him out there sharing time with DesRochers for the next month!

Could we pick him up this season? Wouldn't we have to wait until after the season is over, with the trading deadline already passed?

That would be kinda cool to see him out there.
I think the Blues have to win an award for their goalie situation this year. It was just crazy.......

Nope, we can sign him if he is released. However, I think we would be on the hook for his current contract amount and he wouldn't be playoff eligible (I believe) for the Hurricanes, but we all know our position on that.

Brathwaite's days with Blues over

Goaltender Fred Brathwaite's NHL future could be decided as early as today.
Brathwaite met with Blues GM Larry Pleau on Monday and was told he will not practice with the team for the rest of the season.
Pleau says the team want to give the majority of playing and practice time to Brent Johnson and Chris Osgood, who was acquired by the Blues at the trade deadline.
Pleau says their attempts to move Brathwaite last week were hampered by the fact the Blues acquired Osgood only minutes before the trading deadline.
"I wish I could have done more for him," Pleau tells the St. Louis Post Dispatch. "I told him as much (on Monday). He has been professional all the way for us, and I just wasn't able to do as much as I wanted to for him."
Brathwaite, who can become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and his agent have been given the option of working out a contract with another team. However, under league rules, he would not be eligible to play for another NHL team this season. He could sign on with an American Hockey League team and report to them immediately.
Brathwaite is 12-9-4 this season with a 2.75 goals against average in 30 games. He played a prominent role in the Blues' nine game winning streak earlier this year after starter Brent Johnson went down with injuries, winning five straight games.

anyone know what Osgood signed with the Blues for (lenghth-wise)?
wonder if the Blues will be scrambling to keep 2 decent goalies come September. I wouldn't mind having Freddie.
