It was announced this week that a new hockey club will play this year in Winston-Salem. They will be sponsored by Moosehead beer and of course be called The Winston-Salem Moosehead.
Stay tuned, this is number 6 for that area!

That's good for hockey in NC...anything to spur inrest in the sport. So the clubs are...G'boro, Charlotte, W-S, Fayetteville...that makes 5 with the 'Canes. Who's the 6th? Asheville?

So will Miller put a team in High Point just to compete? The High Point High Life?

I crack myself up... :spin:

What happened to the Parrots? Did they move again?

The PArrots, and the ACHL died. Nobody wanted to do business with Bill Coffey.

- When the season ended last year, David Wannomaker took his three teams and left. Formed the WHA2. Rumor is, two of his teams, Miami and Orlando, will move up to WHA when they start next year.

Huntsville joined the ACHL, but before you know it, Huntsville, Knoxville, and Fayetteville left, creating the Southeast Hockey League, leaving Winston as the only ACHL team. Winston was owned by Coffey.

Then, the fellows negotiating with Coffey to purchase the Parrots, one of which owned the original Thunderbirds, joined the SEHL. They got a sweet sponsorship deal with Moosehead beer, and the rest is history.

Some of you close by should come and check out the moosehead. It is a lot of fun watching hockey in such a small building (3,500)

I grew up in Winston and most of my family lives there...I have talked about the Canes so much and turned them on to hockey, so hopefully they can make a few games...and the team can make it there! :D

Man, a lot has happened since the last post.

Right before the season started, they dropped the Moosehead name. The beer distributor and team couldn't decide on what they could and couldn't put the moosehead logo on.

The team home opener, no logos on the jerseys, they were blank. But they won. Then the team took a six weeks road trip. The coliseum did not know if hockey was going to return or not, so the booked other events. The team returns home December 11.

They have announced their new name will be the T-Birds. Bringing back the nickname of the team from the 80's when Hockey was big in Winston.

The LONG road trip is almost over, and the T-Birds are in 1st PLACE!! This is great news, with the team playing so many more home games than anybody else after Christmas.

The T-Birds have a great goalie in Cam McCormick, who played for the Florida Everblades last year. 6'3" 225lbs. Not much space left when he gets in position.

Now that's a big boy... I'd like to see someone get a puck in that net. :) And they're in 1st place to. Cool name, good standings. I'd say their Christmas is gonna be pretty good. :D
