When are the next cuts supposed to be made?

I would like to know this too. Does the team carry 23 players? If so, that only leaves 4 more to cut. C. Ward, Richmond, Wallin, and Teterenko? Just a guess.

I have no idea on when for cuts...

I do have a couple thoughts from John Forslund from the Carnival. John agreed that either Jesse or Joey would likely go back to Lowell and said he would be very surprised if either Richmond or Ward made the team. His opinion seemed to be that they still here mostly for development reasons and had a slight chance but were long shots to make the team. He also stated that he did not necessarily think that another forward would be cut. He thought we might start with 14 forwards and 7 defensemen. If his estimate is correct, that would suggest that 1 more dmen would need to go. Unless a surprise pops up, this would be Wallin or St.Jacques to Lowell or Ward traded. (Please note that this last piece is NOT a comment from John, but rather my math based on how many he thought would be on the roster. John did not say who he thought would be cut other than the indirect suggestions on Ward, Richmond.)

I'm of the opinion that there's going to be a D trade, but not until after the season begins. If that happens, they send St. Jacques down until the trade is made. Wallin stays up because of his service time and prior "big goal" service.

I think trading Ward would be optimal, but don't see it happening at this point in the season. I like all of the defensemen we have, and it's always good to have depth. Of course, there is the possibility of Hedican having an injury of some sort (hangnail, etc.) or personal leave and being inactive for the first couple of games to stall for time a bit and see if they can keep one D man on IR for a bit and cycle them through. After all, Markov does have his history of injuries.

Well I think Richmond and C. Ward are a given. I think C. Ward may have hung around alittle longer to send a message to DesRocher to get it together or he may not make it. Then if we keep A. Ward and Wallin, I think Bruno will go down.

Then it gets tough to say. Unless I'm counting wrong we have 15 forwards still, probaly only need to send one down. It will more than likely be one of Bayda, Jesse, Joey, Svoboda or Daniels.

I personally wouldn't mind getting rid of Daniels alltogether. He doesn't put up much on the score boards. I've never liked him all that much. I say ditch him and keep up all the forwards thats left.

A. Ward has to stay up, of course, or he would have to clear waivers. I am not sure about Wallin, anyone know? And St. Jacques of course would be sent down with no issues.

Based on that, St. Jacques would be my choice for the cut, or Wallin if he is still allowed to be sent down. And I agree about the waiting to trade Ward, if they even decide to do so.

Edited to clarify the Ward I was referring to...

Daniels isn't here to score goals, he's here to kill penalties (which he does quite, quite well) and be a veteran leader (which I couldn't speak towards).

We have plenty of other capable penalty killers who can also put up some points.

IF we do in fact plan to trade Ward at some point, my preference would be to send St. Jacques down temporarily. Bruno would not need to clear waivers. Wallin would have to clear waivers to be sent down (I believe). Wallin is no Ray Bourque, but he is a decent #5/#6 defenseman with both regular season and playoff experience whose price is about right for the #6/#7 spot.

My bad scenario if we don't do this is:
1) Wallin is exposed to waiver draft and someone like Atl picks him up. (Wallin would be a defensive improvement for Atl, Bos and a few other teams with whom we could be fighting for a playoff spot.)
2) We then trade Ward and now need to find a #7 dman (where Wallin would fit) from amongst Malec, Rourke, Richmond, etc. Aside from whether they can do it, these young guys will develop much better playing 20 minutes/game rather than watching games as a healthy scratch (see also JD below).
3) The situation only gets worse if someone gets hurt and we now need to bump 1 of these guys into an every day role. Then we would be saying "Malike...oops I mean Wallin...is nothing special but he was adequate/reliable."

I continue to look curiously at people who suggest letting Daniels go.
1) We have to pay him anyway.
2) He is a perfect #13/#14 guy. He accepts this role and does not complain, and he always comes ready to play even after a layoff.
3) Do we really want to put one of the young guys (Svoboda, Bayda) in a role where they spend many games in the press box or playing 5-6 minutes. The young guys are much better off playing 20 minutes/game in Lowell if they can't crack the top 12 and play regularly.

My suggested cuts: C.Ward, Richmond, Tetarenko.

CMatt, I agree about JD....he does his job and never complains...he has great leadership and the guys look up to him...I think he definitely is a plus for the team..

I think if it comes down between Jesse and Joey, Jesse will stay...Jesse has a sharper shot and I think he can maybe score a goal or two to help out...Joey is a hard worker though..
