I was outside on intermission break and was introduced to a scout last night and I started bugging him with a lot of questions. He said quite a few things that raised my eyebrows. I will tell you what he said, and remember these were his opinions.

Goaltending - He was not sold on the goaltending situation. He thinks there is a chance Irbe could be back. He said that Patty D was never even a #1 goalie in the AHL, and now he is a #2 in the NHL. He said that Carolina wants Zepp in Lowell this whole year. So whether Irbe or Patty D are sent down, he is not sure where they will play. He also defended Irbe's play of last year saying that he had all new equipment, and that he would play much better this year.
Hereema - When I asked why they cut him, this answer shocked me. He said Jeff was "soft". I asked if there was any chance they would get him back and he said highly unlikely.
Richmond - He said Carolina loves this kid. He said that he would be signed and playing in Lowell this year. The reason why is funny. He said that Richmond would have to go back to London. Karmonos owns Plymouth and they are rivals. He said that Karmanos does not want his players playing for the rival team.
Staal - I asked if was a lock to make the team this year, and he said he did not know. He said he would prefer to see Eric go back to the Juniors this year and play a lot, and then join Carolina next year. He did give him a lot of praise and said he would be the next Ronnie Francis.
Bruno - He said he thought Bruno would be sent down. I mentioned that I read someone could be traded(Wallin) for Bruno to make the team, and he said that team would prefer not to because that would make Malec the 7th D-man, and they want him to get a whole year under his belt in Lowell.
Vrbata - Loves this kid. Said he has the potential to be a 40 gaol scorer.
Defauw - Said that Brad was on the bubble to make the Lowell team.(My jaw dropped when he said this). Said he has all the potential, but does not put it together. With his body, he should be putting it to use and hitting people, which he doesn't.
Brendl - Until he learns to backcheck, and become more involved in every aspect of the game, he is not going no where.
Surma - said this kid has potential to make it to the NHL, he just has to use his body more to make it.
Ziggy - said, as of right now, Ziggy is the best player in Lowell. He praised Ziggy and said that he has the best chance of making the NHL..

That is about all I can remember for right now. If I remember more, I will post it. i did ask him if he heard of LETSGOCANES.com, because that was where I recieved a lot of my information, and he said he knew of this website. :D
I am sorry this is so long!

Fascinating stuff Tat!! Thanks for posting.

This is the only one that doesn't make sense. Trade Wallin - and Bruno is still the #7 man (unless he leapfrogs over Ward, in which case Ward would be #7).

Markov/Hedican
Hill/Wesley
Boughner/Ward

Bruno
Malec

Thanks again. :D

thanks tat... good stuff. :)

the Only reason I'd be "ok" with seeing Irbe here, if it was just for a very short time, only in order to shop him. I do NOT want to see the situation we had last year again. Kevin's already been given the job... I think Irbe showing up would cause problems.
jmo though.

I did not even think of that when I talked to him last night. He just told me that he doubt there would be a trade because the team wanted Malec in Lowell this year and not as a 7th D-man. I wish I would have thought of that and asked him.
Couple other things - he said for the waiver draft that the Hurricanes were not going to be exposing anyone of importance. He also said Tetarenko would be down here in Lowell(although you people already basically knew that).

cool stuff...thanks Tat

I kinda figured they thought of Heerema as a soft player, they had no confidence at all in his defensive ability and it showed when they brought him up

I have a question, and I think I asked it before, but hasnt Brendl been playing in the NHL for a while, or do I have him confused with somebody?
I wonder what has happened to him, I think my expectations for him were too high...

Brendl has picked up 14 points in 58 career NHL games, 8 of which were with the Canes while the rest were in Philadelphia. His WHL stats were awesome. It would be lovely to see him get that going in the NHL, but he's gonna have to learn to play defensively.

*takes a grain of salt*

Pardon my not taking this at 100% face-value--call it the skeptic in me. Who's the guy a scout for?

Well he missed on the Danny Richmond one didn't he. Not only did the Canes not step up and sign him, but he also was sent back to London, the rival of Plymouth. Lets see how he does on the rest.
