I'm thinking maybe we can start up a thread for trade help, since it's popular among inexperienced fantasy players like me...
Item #1: Ilya Kovalchuk... Without Heatley on the team, will Kovalchuk be as succesful? Is he worth acquiring? A guy offered me Modry and Kovalchuk for Schnieder and Sundin, but it sounds to me like a sucky trade... any thoughts?

something that helps get more answers, is to post each player's stats, if possible. otherwise, I need 10-15 minutes to be able to answer that question truthfully.
I don't take ANY trades lightly, and wouldn't want to steer you wrong by just throwing out a yes or no. But, I don't have time right now to research the trade.
*edit*
one thing you should always do, is check outlooks, news, etc.. on each player involved. try to find out what lines he'll be playing on, and with what teammates. ;)

well, I won't ever tell you yay or nay, because I don't want to steer you wrong! I'll tell ya something about the players though...
Modry and Kovalchuk for Schnieder and Sundin
Modry sounds like he is close to ready to play again, but most reports say his recovery has been slow.. I am always wary of hurt players until I can see them in action and see how they look.
Good news for L.A.
10/2/03
Modry, second on the club with 13 goals last season, has skated during most of camp after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder in late June, but only began contact drills late last week.
"I knew if I stuck to my routine I would get to this point,' Modry said. "I just had to stay patient with my rehab.'
Kovalchuk - I can't begin to say.
Schnieder - Is that Mathieu Schneider? I really don't have much on him at all. Detroit has a solid blue line this year, he should be good for a D man. He can score a few points.. doesn't usually get much special teams play though. He got 38 points last year but had a -13
Sundin - Even though he's a leaf, I like Sundin.. He should be on the top line with Mogilny and Darcy *ucker again this season. He's good for over 70 points. Good +/-, gets time on the power play, and wins faceoffs.

Looking at last year's stats, Modry and Schneider had similar numbers as did Kovalchuk and Sundin, with the glaring exception of +/-. Modry and Kovalchuk were a combined -37, while Sundin and Schneider were both plus. Unless you are desperate for a LW, I would definitely stick with Sundin and Schneider.
