I personally think that he killed his wife. I think the police and the prosecution screwed this one up, and he will be found not guilty though.
Thoughts?

Yeah, I agree Mean Gene. I think he did it, but some of the defense's testimony was very damaging. As a juror, you could not be 100% sure, so you couldn't convict.

I watched alot of this trial. Rudolf was unbelievable. That man was more
prepared than any lawyer I have ever heard. I don't care. I could never
get past all that blood. You don't fall down three stairs and have all
that blood. I wouldn't care about any of the testimony I heard. There is
too much friggin blood for that short of a fall, period. I would say GUILTY
no matter which lawyer was better. Then there is the Ratliff story.....
again...GUILTY!!!....the guy is a murderer, period. I hope he doesn't get
away with it.

away with it.
Yeah, but he will thanks to our great legal system. He'll be off on a technicallity.
I don't really think this DA was as prepared as he should have been. I totally agree with you re: the blood that is everywhere, and I hope the Ratliff story makes a difference, I just have a bad feeling he'll walk.

I think he is guilty as sin.........two women in his life that die the exact same way........too much coincidence....and I think his son had something to do with Kathleen's death as well......... a co-worker of mine is on the jury..and I don't envy him one bit...he has been gone since the 1st of July...
They need to find him guilty and put him away before he does this for a third time..

I have followed the trial all the way from here in Wilmington(thank god for the herald-sun website) and while I think he is guilty, from everything I have read and seen on the trial there is absolutely no way I could find him guilty. There is so much reasonable doubt in this case that I would be very surprised if he is found guilty. Plus I never thought that I would seea prosecution as bad as the OJ case but I was wrong. From the whole blowpoke incident to the expert witness who perjured himself I must say that the prosecution deserves to lose this case.

He did it, but he'll get off because the prosecution bungled it just like the prosecutors in LA bungled the Orenthal case.

but isn't it ironic??? the system that Peterson dogged so bad will be the
one that saves him. (because they blew it!!).......If I was on the jury I
wouldn't get hung up on all that though. The obvious hits you in the face.
I didn't like Rudolf's demeanor.......he insulted so many people's
intelligence, but I guess that is how you win cases. Did anyone watch
the day Shabani was on the stand????? It was BRUTAL!!
I bet they deadlock.

Wow. Worst bungling of a prosecution since Orenthal, and they STILL managed a conviction.

So what we've learned here is that the biggest bungling happened when the defense messed up and allowed some intelligent people to sneak through on the jury.
Haven't been watching but have read quite a bit and from what I know, I'm glad he's going to jail.

Congratulations to the jury for seeing through the inept prosecution and findin him guilty anyway. Now if the Durham DA is smart he will fire both Jim Hardin and Freda Black. They made Marcia Clark and Chris Darden look like the best prosecutors in the world and that is doing something. THe only bad thing I can say now is why they didn't go for the death penalty. We have to support this guy getting cable tv and three squares a day for the rest of his life.

That's actually cheaper than levying the death penalty, thanks to the appeals process.

Good point. That is why I would love for it to be one appeal and then pull the switch.

After hearing some of the testamony, he won't mind that at all. Hope they don't give him any paper and pen, so he can't write a book how mistreated and misundestaood he is.

I only hope the verdict means we won't have to hear about him nonstop anymore. I didn't watch it, don't care what happened, just care that if he's guilty he never sees the light of day. I get so tired of all the wall to wall coverage of these things.........not just him but all the total coverage stories like Lacey Peterson, OJ Simpson, Princess Diana, etc. It drives me completely crazy, but I freely admit to having a low tolerance for 24 hour coverage of any topic. I burn out on it to the point of not caring a bit about what ultimately happens.

yea but if you watched the trial you would know that he would not mind
this at all...........................infact everyone has their theories on what
exactly prompted all this that night. I say she found his secret life that
was on the internet and was going to expose him. Well guess what.....
good ole "Brad the gay boy" pretty much ended up doing that in court.

Judge: Mike Peterson Cannot Afford To Pay For Appeal
Possessions To Go On Sale Nov. 21
POSTED: 12:51 p.m. EST November 4, 2003
DURHAM, N.C. -- Taxpayers will foot the bill for Mike Peterson's appeal.
After Peterson paid for a multimillion-dollar defense, Judge Orlando Hudson ruled Tuesday that the Durham novelist is too broke to pay for his appeal.
Prosecutors convicted Peterson for first-degree murder for beating his wife, Kathleen. He is currently serving a life sentence at the Nash Correctional Institute.
Hudson's decision could mean a new lawyer will be assigned to Peterson's case.
In addition, everything in Peterson's Durham home will go on sale at the end of the month.
A family friend said each item will be tagged with a price during a three-day sale starting Nov. 21. Money from the sale will be divided up between Mike Peterson's two sons, Caitlin Atwater, Kathleen Peterson's daughter and Margaret and Martha Ratliff, who were raised by Peterson after their mother died in Germany 18 years ago.
Last week, the Cedar Street house went on the market for an asking price of nearly $1.2 million.
